Pink Tutu Milan - Post #363: The Magic of Milan, or, "Tutti Frutti!"
Wednesday 2002-05-22
Ciao Bella! It's Emma from Derbyshire, here, and today's Pink Tutu Milan adventure is about as whimsical and fabulous as a pirouette in a ball gown! I'm dancing through Milan, where the cobbled streets are my stage, the trams are my chariots, and the delicious smells of street food make me feel like a princess in a fairytale.
The sun is out, the air is balmy, and I’m gliding through the city in my trusty, pink, twirly tutu, which feels even more perfect today in this vibrant atmosphere. I must say, Milanites seem to have a special appreciation for all things fashionable, so my sartorial choice has gone down a treat! The surprised, then approving, smiles I've received today are the sweetest form of affirmation – even when paired with a curious glance at my ballet shoes.
"Buongiorno" To Ballet & Shopping!
My day started with an enchanting ballet class at the Teatro alla Scala, where the graceful movements and ethereal music had me swirling through a world of dreams. Milan is brimming with talented dancers and I'm constantly finding inspiration from their incredible skill and artistry. Just a thought, how incredible would it be to dance on that historic stage one day? It’s definitely on my dream list!
Speaking of dreams, fashion is a true passion of mine. After my class, I couldn't resist dipping my toes into the fabulous boutiques and ateliers along Via della Spiga. My heart skipped a beat with every boutique I passed. Every window display seemed to scream, “Emma, come in!” The colours, textures, and exquisite designs were enough to make a ballerina swoon! I may have just added a few treasures to my wardrobe – oh, the joy!
The Milan Tram is My Runway
After a delicious (and slightly excessive) Italian lunch, fuelled by pasta, risotto and the best tiramisu, I hopped on a tram to the Brera District. I just love travelling by tram, especially in Milan. There’s a special energy on these yellow carriages - you’re surrounded by ordinary Milanese on their everyday lives. You see families with prams, tourists snapping pictures and locals chatting with the tram drivers. It feels authentic, it feels alive!
My aim is to get everyone wearing pink tutus! That’s why I started this blog, and you know, as I trundled down the tracks of the tram I caught the eye of a lady wearing a bright, orange skirt. We exchanged smiles, and you could tell she loved her outfit, it oozed confidence. I felt this wonderful sense of camaraderie and kinship. It struck me how the Milanese, with their effortless chic, could truly inspire anyone to embrace their own personal style! So if she feels confident in orange, I feel confident in pink – and together, we can make this city truly twirl!
Tonight’s Show, Milan Style
This evening is about the exquisite artistry of ballet performances. I’m heading to the Teatro dell'Opera, where the renowned Teatro alla Scala puts on such spectacular shows. I hear it's a breathtaking venue, all velvet seats, sparkling chandeliers and a magical ambiance that would make even the most jaded ballerina gasp in awe. The program is all about romantic classics, which is my style, naturally, and I can't wait to get swept away by the sheer grace and artistry of it all!
And if that wasn’t enough, I have plans to spend some time admiring the city's majestic landmarks and beautiful squares. It’s no secret that I love Milan for its historical grandeur, but I love it even more for its passion, spirit and warmth. It's like the whole city is a graceful dance, filled with beauty and joy.
Pink Tutu Tips for a Milan Adventure
Embrace your inner fashionista! Milan is a fashion lover's paradise – so have fun experimenting with your own look, no matter what style you choose! Who knows, you may inspire someone with a smile or even just a fleeting glimpse of your unique personality!
Get lost in the vibrant culture! Embrace every moment of your journey, from savoring the freshest coffee in the cutest cafés to enjoying a beautiful performance at one of Milan's legendary theaters!
Don't be afraid to get a little bit silly! This city is bursting with joie de vivre, so go with the flow! There are no rules in this wonderful city, only good vibes and smiles.
As I write this post, I can’t help but think back to how far I’ve come. My passion for ballet, travel and fashion is what led me to launch Pink Tutu Milan. And it’s amazing to think that I have the power to inspire others to embrace their own style and pursue their dreams, however grand or small they may be.
Till next time, my lovely readers! Keep shining, keep twirling and make sure to always wear a pink tutu - in your heart, or on your body, or both!
Emma
This week's Milan events that I recommend: - Opera & Ballet: Teatro alla Scala has the ballet Swan Lake by Tchaikovsky all week. This is definitely one for my ‘must-see’ list!
Milan's Fashion Week: It's on, which makes Milan even more exciting and glamorous! Although, if you’re on a budget like me, a trip to Via Montenapoleone is as good as you can get – especially if you admire all the displays from afar, taking it all in!
Art Exhibitions: There’s always so much happening in this incredible city. I can't resist a good art show. The Galleria d'Arte Moderna is showing works by Monet, Renoir and other famous French artists! You might say that makes me, well, French kiss the city!
My Favourites for today in Milan:
Restaurant Osteria al Banco * This intimate restaurant in Brera offers the perfect Italian dinner. Delicious food, and romantic ambience. * My pick: Pasta with black truffles and fresh Parmesan! A touch of luxury in the most elegant of settings!
Shopping Caraceni:
* I may be a bit of a ballet nut, but I do love a fine piece of tailored clothing and if you are on Via Montenapoleone, then stop by this famous tailor's! It’s so elegant - just beware, you’re in danger of your credit card reaching a state of ballet!
Sights: Cimitero Monumentale: * For the perfect photo opportunity (and some unique artistry). Take a tram out to this stunningly beautiful and imposing cemetery. I couldn't resist a pink tutu spin on the steps for the ultimate ‘tomb-stone’ photoshoot!
Keep sparkling! Emma
