Pink Tutu Milan: #385 - October 23rd, 2002: A Dream in Pink Amongst the Duomo!

Buongiorno, darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-clad adventurer, Emma, checking in from the bustling streets of Milan! This week, my journey took me on a whirl of pink, from the cobbled piazzas to the exquisite stage of the Teatro alla Scala, leaving a trail of glitter and delight in its wake!

My trusty pink tutu - a feather-light creation of tulle and silk - felt right at home in Milan, the fashion capital of the world. Honestly, this city has a style that just oozes with chic sophistication. From the effortlessly elegant Milanese women, who manage to pull off tailored suits with an ethereal grace, to the flamboyant displays in the window shops of Via Montenapoleone, it's a veritable feast for the fashion senses!

Before diving headfirst into the ballet scene, I made sure to immerse myself in Milan's beautiful, historic heart. Wandering through the sprawling Duomo - with its awe-inspiring Gothic spires - felt like stepping into a medieval fairy tale. It’s no surprise this landmark draws in thousands every year. You’ll see me in my tutu against its marble grandeur, taking in the majesty and scale, in my latest Instagram post (you're all following @pinktutu_emma, right? Don't forget to tag #pinktutumilan when posting your Milan adventures!).

Next on the itinerary was a visit to the Pinacoteca di Brera - an absolute must-see for art lovers like myself. The Renaissance paintings within those walls were stunning, a rich tapestry of colour and emotion, all breathing a captivating historical breath. After indulging in art and architecture, it was time for something a little more lively. I had an unexpected chance encounter with a street performer - a captivating young violinist. His performance brought the bustle of the piazza to a standstill, each note a symphony of emotion. It truly reminded me of the universal power of music and its ability to move us all, regardless of language.

Of course, no trip to Milan is complete without indulging in its culinary delights. I managed to sneak in a visit to a traditional Trattoria, relishing a creamy risotto alla Milanese and the freshest pasta imaginable. Everything tasted exquisite, and let's be honest, who can resist an Italian espresso in a quaint cafe?

But my main reason for travelling to this fashionable haven is to see the ballet - the epitome of grace and elegance! Tonight, it was the Teatro alla Scala, a grand opera house brimming with history, grandeur, and passion. The energy in the theatre was electric, a palpable sense of anticipation buzzing around as the curtains rose on 'La Traviata.' The ballet was a beautiful tapestry of storytelling through movement. Every twirl and pirouette unfolded like a carefully choreographed dream. It was an emotional roller coaster, and I'm certain I was spotted dabbing at the odd tear. The energy after the performance was exhilarating; everyone seemed caught up in the emotional wave.

Oh, and you'll never believe it, darling! I finally managed to find the most exquisite pink tutu in a vintage shop on a tiny, tucked away cobbled street! It’s just about perfect: delicate, feminine, and perfect for twirling through Milan’s magical alleys. I can't wait to pair it with a simple black dress for the ballet tomorrow night.

This city, brimming with culture, history, and breathtaking beauty, is a pink tutu lover's paradise. I've danced my way through the bustling streets, found treasures hidden amongst cobblestone alleys, and experienced the electrifying energy of a packed theatre. Each moment in Milan has been an adventure, a whimsical adventure woven with the thread of pink tulle.

Until next Monday, darlings, keep twirling, keep exploring, and most importantly, keep believing in the magic of a pink tutu! And if you find yourself wandering through the elegant avenues of Milan, don't hesitate to stop by for a cuppa, and perhaps a spin or two!

Yours in pink, Emma xxx

What I wore this week:

This week's outfits were all about playful sophistication, embracing Milan's chic energy!

  • For the Duomo: A classic white A-line skirt and a bright pink blouse with an adorable polka-dot detail. The blush pink tutu, peeking out just below the hem, added a whimsical touch, keeping things fun! I topped it off with a pair of chic, comfortable nude wedges that were perfect for navigating those cobbled streets.

  • Brera Art Galleries: The art calls for an outfit with elegant flair. I went for a tailored black pantsuit and paired it with a satin blush pink scarf for a dash of femininity.

    • La Scala Ballet: What else could I wear other than a flowing pink tulle dress that danced with each movement? It cascaded perfectly during the show's breathtaking finale! I added a touch of drama with a velvet black choker adorned with a glittering pink rose pin. My shoes for the occasion were a pair of elegant black velvet heels with intricate, silver embellishments - every detail is important, darling, when embracing the magic of the ballet.

Favourite Spots of the Week:

  • Pinacoteca di Brera: The collection of paintings and sculptures is mind-blowing - a feast for the eyes and the soul.

  • Teatro alla Scala: Every single seat is alive with anticipation as the orchestra takes centre stage! The architecture is impressive, the performances spellbinding. This truly is a must-visit for any visitor to Milan.

  • Bar Ristorante L'Oste della Griglia: A cozy restaurant with friendly staff and delicious homemade pasta, which makes it a real treasure hidden in Milan’s labyrinth of streets. The warm ambience and classic Milanese flavour left me with a smile, a full stomach, and happy memories!
