Pink Tutu Milan - #407

Wednesday 2003-03-26

Ciao bella!

It's Wednesday, and you know what that means! Pink Tutu Milan is back, bursting with all things ballet, fashion, and fun in the fabulous city of Milan!

It's a glorious day, the sun is shining, and even the Duomo seems to sparkle a little brighter. My morning started with a deliciously decadent cappuccino at my favourite cafe, followed by a spot of window shopping for the latest in Italian couture. Honestly, these shoes! Divine!

Of course, I had to share my favourite pick on Instagram, a pair of pink ballet flats, the kind you can wear with absolutely everything - pink tutus included, naturally! Speaking of tutus, mine has been having a much-needed pampering at the dry cleaner's - I'm planning a special outfit for tonight's performance at the Teatro alla Scala!

And speaking of the Scala, oh my dear, I am so excited! Tonight is a ballet spectacular, and I have a backstage pass! Squee! I’m seeing my absolute favourite, the ‘Giselle’. I can't wait for the haunting choreography, the captivating music, and those breathtaking leaps - my favourite part.

You see, the thrill of the performance isn't just in the dancing; it's the entire experience. The hush before the curtain rises, the applause as the lights come up, the feeling of excitement in the air. And afterwards, discussing it all over a late-night Aperol spritz with the other ballet lovers! This is truly living!

This morning, I actually did something completely out of character - I caught the tram! Now, I usually take the train, and don't get me wrong, I adore the sleek, efficient Italian trains - they are an experience in themselves! But today, I thought I'd see Milan from a different perspective, and what better way than to ride the tram, enjoying the buzz of the city as it whizzes by.

Plus, there was a particularly glamorous, dapper gentleman seated next to me who reminded me a bit of Rudolf Nureyev. Don’t you agree that certain personalities have that classic dancer look? Of course, I didn’t just sit there gawking – I took the opportunity to politely strike up a conversation. You never know, a little bit of charisma goes a long way in life, and who knows what opportunities might arise. It’s definitely an attitude I’ve adopted from living here in the ‘Capital of Fashion’. Milan is bursting with inspiration, you just have to be bold enough to seize the moment!

I know what you’re thinking, dear reader, and yes, I always carry a small notebook in my handbag – nothing too obvious, you understand. But trust me, it's indispensable. Ideas for the blog, observations on the latest trends, notes from inspirational encounters – they all make it into my little book. After all, Pink Tutu Milan is so much more than just a blog, it’s an ode to life and all its little joys, expressed in my own unique way. It's like having a fashion diary you share with your friends all over the world!

Speaking of my friends, I received the sweetest email this morning from a girl who started wearing a pink tutu after reading my blog. Her name is Sarah, and she is from Derbyshire, just like me! Apparently, wearing a tutu to the local market has caused a bit of a stir, but in the best way possible. She says it brings a little bit of joy to people’s faces and has encouraged a lot of ladies to embrace their inner ballerina! And the thing is, it works! Just a small gesture that can make all the difference in someone's day, and all it took was a blog and a little bit of pink tulle! Isn’t that fabulous?

This is what Pink Tutu Milan is all about - encouraging everyone, everywhere, to express their individuality, their own personal style, and to embrace their inner ballerina! Who knows? Perhaps it’s time to dust off that tutu and take it for a whirl in your local supermarket or at the park! You never know, maybe you’ll start a trend of your own!

Of course, I haven’t neglected my training in all of this! This afternoon I popped into a beautiful studio with breathtaking, vaulted ceilings, and learned a brand new routine set to Vivaldi. It was just beautiful - it really made me feel alive, like I was part of the music, every move graceful and precise. I’ve decided to devote more time to ballet practice - you can’t have a tutu without the dance!

After all, my life isn’t all about fashion, glamour and Italian cafe culture – though, it would be pretty rude not to mention those elements – the most important thing for me is dancing. Ballet is the reason I do everything I do – travel the world, experience new things, and express myself freely. And so, dear reader, this is my pledge – I’ll never lose sight of what brought me to this incredible adventure in the first place!

Later tonight, I will be enjoying the Teatro alla Scala's beauty. Imagine all those rich velvet curtains and swirling chandeliers! Oh, the sheer romance!

The truth is, it's just that little extra dose of magic that keeps me going, the reminder that there’s more to life than the daily grind. The artistry, the beauty, the joy - it’s all a gift and I'm incredibly grateful to be experiencing it. Every day feels like a ballet – a carefully crafted journey through the beautiful symphony of life.

To the aspiring ballerinas out there, remember – never stop chasing your dreams. Let the tutus twirl, the shoes tap, and the music fill your soul. Be brave, be bold, be you, and always remember, even the smallest actions can inspire change – just like my darling Sarah!

Stay tuned, my dears, as the Pink Tutu journey continues! There's always so much more to explore!

Ciao for now,

Emma xx
