Pink Tutu Milan - Wednesday 2003-05-14 - Post #414

Ciao Bella! It's Emma here, reporting live from the vibrant, fashionable, and utterly enchanting city of Milan! The sun is shining, the cobbled streets are buzzing with life, and, of course, I'm twirling around in a glorious pink tutu, just because! This week, it's all about embracing the artistic energy of Milan, and as you know, my love for dance is an ever-burning flame!

I'm currently ensconced in a charming little hotel near the Duomo, which is absolutely breathtaking, especially with its stunning cathedral dominating the skyline. Every morning, I start the day with a croissant and a cappuccino, admiring the views while making plans for the day. Of course, I'm always on the lookout for fabulous fashion finds and breathtaking ballet performances, which is a pretty easy thing to do in Milan.

Speaking of which, this past Monday, I spent a glorious morning exploring the Teatro alla Scala, Milan’s iconic opera house. Even before stepping inside, the building itself is an architectural masterpiece! The theatre’s elegant exterior was designed by the legendary Giuseppe Piermarini, and it has played host to legendary performances for over two centuries! Imagine!

Walking through the massive doors, I was immediately transported back in time, struck by the opulence of the interior. The grandeur is truly breathtaking – from the magnificent chandeliers and intricate artwork to the plush red velvet seats, the whole experience was steeped in a history of exquisite artistry.

Now, I can't possibly leave this place without a stunning photo to show my lovely Pink Tutu family back home in Derbyshire! Thankfully, it seems like they agree with my impeccable taste and fashion choices! Just yesterday, I got a heartwarming comment from a fan in Nottingham. They wrote about a lovely pink tutu they’d bought and the confidence they felt when wearing it. It honestly made my day! Seeing the impact my love for tutus has on others is a pure joy, and my mission remains the same: spread the pink tutu magic throughout the world, one fabulous twirl at a time!

Back to Milan! For the afternoon, I decided to do some serious shopping at the luxurious Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. It is an architecturally magnificent space, and home to a mix of world-renowned designer boutiques and more local treasures. It felt like a dream to wander through the airy glass-covered galleries, soaking up the energy and looking at all the stunning fashion!

Oh, I just had to share! While perusing a beautiful dress shop, I noticed a vintage, exquisitely crafted pink tutu, shimmering like a ballerina's dream! I absolutely had to add it to my collection! I envisioned myself wearing it later tonight as I venture into the heart of Milan, perhaps to the Teatro Strehler or the Teatro Lirico, or perhaps even to catch a captivating show in one of Milan's more unconventional locations - who knows! The magic of spontaneity!

As the sun begins to set, casting a warm glow on the terracotta rooftops of Milan, it’s time to pick my favourite tutu for tonight’s ballet adventures. The decisions are always tough. Do I go for the flowing chiffon masterpiece, a romantic confection with tiers of fluffy tulle, or a dramatic, almost sculptural tutu, with sharp lines and intricate detailing? Ah, the eternal ballet dilemma! But tonight, I have a feeling it'll be the one that makes me feel like a true Milanese princess, ready to waltz into a world of elegance and artistry!

Speaking of artistry, tomorrow I'll be attending a truly special ballet class at the renowned Accademia Teatro alla Scala. I simply can’t miss this! Just thinking about the atmosphere of that studio, the passion for dance that will be palpable in the air, and the elegance of the students - well, it’s just exciting to the point of goosebumps! Imagine learning from world-renowned instructors, breathing the same air as legendary dancers, and experiencing the very heart of ballet culture in Milan. It's a dream come true! I can’t wait to tell you all about it next week.

Oh, before I go, let me tell you about a delicious culinary discovery. This past Saturday, I was introduced to a delectable dish called risotto alla Milanese. This iconic dish is a celebration of simplicity and Milanese tradition. The star of the show is saffron, which infuses the rice with a vibrant yellow colour and a rich, earthy flavour. Imagine creamy, cheesy rice infused with this captivating flavour, perfectly seasoned and served with a delicate crust. It was truly a delightful experience for all my senses.

Of course, no visit to Milan would be complete without a trip to a quaint trattoria to sample the local delicacies. I am, after all, on a quest to understand Milanese culture in all its richness, from the haute couture to the street food! But fear not, I’ll always find the most chic places to enjoy, so you can enjoy the adventure vicariously through my blog.

As I wander back to my hotel, with my heart filled with joy, a few things are absolutely clear:

  • Milan is a city brimming with elegance, artistry, and style! I can’t believe how many beautiful boutiques and showrooms I’ve been able to explore in just a week, let alone the fantastic shows, art exhibits, and the beautiful cobbled streets.

  • Ballet is more than a passion for me, it’s a way of life!

  • A pink tutu is the ultimate symbol of grace and joy - not just in ballet, but in life!
