Pink Tutu Milan: Wednesday 7th January 2004 (Post #448)

Buongiorno, darlings! It’s Emma here, writing to you from sunny (okay, maybe not quite sunny, but definitely not foggy!) Milan. I’ve landed back in the fashion capital of the world after a whirlwind tour of… well, let’s just say a whirlwind tour! You see, life as a Pink Tutu ballerina isn’t just about twirling and pirouetting – it's about adventure!

The Derbyshire Lass Goes Global

Before I unveil all the Milanian magnificence, a little bit about my journey: Imagine a Derbyshire lass, freshly sprung from a ballet performance at Buxton Opera House, hopped onto the 6:15 am train to Euston, London. That was me, suitcases crammed with tutus and a heart bursting with excitement for my European adventure.

From London to Paris – a quick, efficient hop across the Channel with a charming Frenchman sharing a croissant with me on the Eurostar (don’t worry, Mum, it was just a croissant, not an actual smooch!) And then, arriving in Paris – a city that never fails to steal my heart!

The Magic of Paris

There's a special kind of magic in the air in Paris. The city pulsates with creativity, fuelled by steaming café au laits and whispered conversations in quaint sidewalk cafes. I found myself lost in the bustling energy of Montmartre, where every corner held a glimpse of Parisian charm.

You know me, though. I couldn't resist venturing into the fashion haven that is Galeries Lafayette. Oh, the divine spectacle! I walked into a swirling vortex of silks, lace, and luxurious colours. My inner shopaholic nearly exploded! The scent of designer perfume and the sight of those gorgeous displays... well, it’s a good thing I brought my trusty pink tutu with me! It’s my anchor – my reminder that I’m just a regular Derbyshire lass, even amidst all this Parisian glamour.

Of course, a Parisian escapade wouldn’t be complete without ballet! The Paris Opera Ballet was simply divine – a masterpiece of grace and beauty. I even got to see the legendary ballerina, Sylvie Guillem, dance! (I’m blushing just remembering it). But the most touching part of the show? A little girl in the front row, watching in wonder, eyes wide and sparkling. That's why I love sharing my passion – it's a joy to witness someone discover the magic of ballet.

Milan: Fashionista Paradise

After my Parisian whirlwind, I hopped on a high-speed train and whizzed to Milan. My very own "Fashion Week," in the very heart of fashion! (Though, I confess, it's not actual Fashion Week; that's in September). But that doesn’t mean I'm not indulging in Milanese chic!

As I’m writing this, my bedroom is exploding with designer delights - a splash of silk here, a glimmer of gold there. The energy of Milan is electric; everyone seems to exude this cool confidence, walking in their sleek outfits, like they own the catwalk. I just need to soak it all up, let it flow into my soul and then bring a little bit of Milanese magic back to Derbyshire!

Food and Culture

Of course, you can’t talk about Milan without mentioning food. Forget those stodgy pasta dishes – Milanese food is a delicious explosion of flavors! I’m absolutely smitten with "risotto alla Milanese" – the saffron adds a unique colour and aroma, and the parmesan cheese? Heavenly! I'm already making plans to recreate this culinary masterpiece back home. (Fingers crossed I can find a decent parmesan cheese in Buxton!)

But fashion and food are only a part of the Milanese experience. The city's rich history comes to life at every corner. The Duomo is an architectural marvel, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is a magnificent shopping arcade, and the Castello Sforzesco transports me back to a bygone era. Oh, the history, the architecture… I feel like I've stepped out of a movie!

Pink Tutu for Everyone!

And you know what I discovered on this trip? Pink tutus aren’t just for ballerinas, darlings! I’ve seen tutus being worn in shops, on streets, even on mannequins! Milan’s embracing the tutu revolution. They’ve definitely got the 'je ne sais quoi', and the confidence to pull it off with such flair!

This is just the beginning of my Milan adventure! I’ll be posting more from here on my blog next week, so keep your eyes peeled! In the meantime, make sure you're spreading the Pink Tutu love wherever you go – it's the perfect way to inject some magic into everyday life. And remember, the world is your stage, and there’s no place like a pink tutu to help you dance through it!

Ciao for now,
