Pink Tutu Milan: Ciao Bella! (Post #477)

Wednesday 2004-07-28

Buongiorno from sunny Milan! Can you believe it's already Wednesday? This week feels like it's flown by, all filled with rehearsals, tutus, and even a dash of pasta! 🍝 I’m currently nestled in my charming little apartment near the Duomo, surrounded by the gentle hum of this bustling city. As the afternoon sun streams through my window, illuminating my pale pink tulle tutu, I can't help but feel a surge of excitement. Tonight, I'm off to see a show at La Scala - imagine, the most famous opera house in Italy, just a hop and a skip from my front door! The world of opera and ballet in Milan is utterly captivating, and I wouldn't trade these experiences for anything. It's a constant thrill to witness the incredible talent of these performers and to feel the magic of the theatre unfold before my very eyes.

My morning started with a light breakfast of croissants and cappuccino at my favourite little café near the train station. The café's pastel-pink walls perfectly complemented my blush-coloured tutu, of course! Afterward, I embarked on my usual morning journey through the heart of Milan on a tram, a graceful dance in itself, really! It's such a joy to weave through the city, watching life unfurl around me. Every corner reveals a new treasure, from the ornate architecture of the grand piazzas to the colourful displays of flowers and fruit in bustling market stalls.

And speaking of colourful displays, let's talk about Milanese fashion! Oh, darling, the colours! The textures! It’s an explosion of chic and style that would make even the most discerning Parisian blush. I popped into a little boutique near the Piazza della Repubblica this morning and discovered a glorious new addition to my wardrobe - a scarlet red beret, the perfect splash of vibrant colour for a Parisian chic look, don’t you think? I can already imagine it pairing perfectly with my ballet pink tutu, a timeless classic with a touch of whimsy!

Speaking of timeless classics, my little shopping trip reminded me of how lucky I am to call myself a professional ballerina. This life is all about pursuing your passion - mine is dancing, yours? Whatever it may be, embrace it with gusto and you’ll achieve incredible things. I’m just so thrilled that my love for ballet allows me to travel, explore new cultures, and share my adventures with all of you through my little pink tutu blog!

After the theatre tonight, I'm planning on visiting a lovely little pastry shop on the Piazza San Babila. The warm, inviting scent of freshly baked goods is absolutely irresistible. Perhaps I'll even find some charming treats to share with you all when I post tomorrow. Milan has the most wonderful bakeries; the smell of cinnamon, almonds, and sugar wafts through the streets and fills the air with sweetness.

Later this week, I’ll be heading to the Duomo – Milan’s magnificent cathedral – to watch some local street performers who incorporate ballet into their performances. A fantastic example of how dance isn't just a theatre show – it’s alive and bursting forth all over the world, everywhere you go! Street performers in Milan seem to relish pushing the boundaries of artistry, combining movement, music, and drama in ways that captivate audiences, even me, a ballet purist! Who knew a simple walk through the streets could be so exhilarating?

In Derbyshire, they'd think I'd gone completely bonkers travelling the world, performing for my supper, and blogging about it! My parents would have a fit, especially Dad! (Don't worry Dad, I still use all the cutlery in the right way! Mostly…) My mum is secretly impressed, though, even though she tries to keep it under wraps! I know she reads my blog every week, even though she insists she doesn’t!

While I may not be making millions of euros (oh, if only!), I can say I am rich in life experiences, with an ever-growing collection of beautiful pink tutus to match. My quest to get the entire world wearing pink tutus continues! You can't get a more flattering colour – it suits everyone. It says to the world, 'I am beautiful! I am fun! I am going to have a good time!'

Every day brings new discoveries and a new chance to be happy. I truly believe the secret to happiness is embracing your passion with unbridled enthusiasm and always having a little pink tutu to hand.

Until next Monday, when I'll be sharing the inside scoop on a secret ballet class I found here in Milan. It's going to be absolutely fantastic, I can feel it in my pink tutued heart.

Stay glamorous, darling, and don't forget to wear pink!

**Love,

Emma xx**
