Pink Tutu Milan: Wednesday 9th March 2005 - Post #509
Ciao Bella!
It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu Milan post! I'm currently writing from my charming little apartment in the heart of Milan, feeling positively inspired after a whirlwind week. You see, darlings, this past Saturday, I took the plunge and performed with a wonderful troupe of talented dancers at the Teatro alla Scala! I was only a small part of the production, but oh my, the experience was magical.
Let me tell you, there's nothing quite like standing in the wings, the orchestra warming up, the anticipation crackling in the air, and then... stepping onto that hallowed stage. You forget about the nerves, the pressure, everything except the music, the movement, the sheer joy of dancing. The applause was intoxicating, the sheer joy in the audience's faces – that's what makes it all worthwhile.
And let's not forget the outfit, shall we? This weekend's performance called for a sleek, silver-toned leotard, topped with a flowing tulle skirt that made me feel like a graceful swan. But of course, what’s a ballet look without a splash of pink? My go-to sparkly pink ballet shoes with a touch of pink eye shadow completed the look, making me feel utterly fabulous.
I think my Mum was particularly excited about the performance. She drove all the way from Derbyshire just to see me dance, which I found truly touching. You know how she is – loves seeing me perform. And to top it all off, she brought me a surprise – a beautiful silk pink scarf with the cutest little ballerina embroideries! I can't wait to wear it with my trusty pink tweed jacket.
Anyway, enough about my dance exploits – let's talk about Milan! It's hard to believe it's been nearly six months since I moved to this vibrant city, and I'm still finding new treasures around every corner. The other day, I discovered this delightful little tea shop near the Duomo, tucked away on a cobblestone side street. Imagine, afternoon tea with miniature sandwiches and freshly baked scones, all washed down with a steaming cup of chamomile tea. The owner even offered me a complimentary strawberry tart – heaven!
And speaking of tea, you simply cannot mention Milan without bringing up the stunning Teatro alla Scala. After my performance last night, I enjoyed a delightful post-show dinner with a fellow dancer, Maria, at a quaint little restaurant overlooking the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, a majestic shopping arcade that is a must-see for any visitor.
Milan has so much to offer, it's hard to know where to begin. It's a melting pot of art, culture, history, and fashion. Last weekend, I went to see an amazing exhibition at the Palazzo Reale – a captivating showcase of modern sculpture and installations. Then there was a delightful evening spent wandering through the Brera district, admiring the intricate artistry of the countless boutiques and antique stores.
Of course, I couldn't possibly leave out the food! Milan is a foodie's paradise. On Sunday morning, I treated myself to a mouthwatering breakfast at a charming cafe on the Piazza dei Mercanti. I indulged in freshly baked croissants, creamy cappuccino, and a selection of delicious pastries, all accompanied by the vibrant bustle of the morning market. Later that day, I found myself enjoying the most exquisite pasta al ragu at a local trattoria – truly divine!
You might think, "Emma, how can you possibly manage to afford all these fabulous trips and outings?" Well, darlings, I'm very savvy when it comes to stretching my ballet budget. A bit of research and some savvy planning, and I can often find amazing deals on travel, shows, and even food! Plus, I have a talent for making things last – like stretching a simple baguette and a jar of jam into an extravagant Parisian picnic, complete with a bottle of sparkling wine and a stunning view from a park bench.
Now, my darling readers, I know you're all wondering about the main subject of this blog – the glorious pink tutu! As you know, I'm a firm believer that every woman, girl, and child deserves the right to experience the joy and confidence of twirling in a pink tutu. I'm currently brainstorming a campaign to encourage women all over the world to embrace their inner ballerina. What do you think of the idea of a "Pink Tutu Day" where women everywhere celebrate their unique beauty and grace in pink tutus? I'm open to your ideas!
But, of course, it's not all about tutus and champagne. My time here in Milan has opened my eyes to the richness of different cultures. I've found myself captivated by the vibrant energy of the Milanese locals, the delicious food and the passionate way they celebrate everything from fashion to food. I even had a go at learning Italian – believe it or not, I managed to order a cappuccino in fluent Italian, much to the delight of the barista!
So, my dear friends, as I wrap up another week of adventures in Milan, I encourage you to follow your dreams, embrace your inner pink tutu, and most importantly, make sure you enjoy the ride! Until next week, I bid you farewell!
Love,
Emma
P.S. My friends at the ballet company are performing the "Nutcracker" this weekend, and I have a feeling I might be getting myself another beautiful new costume for the occasion. So exciting!
P.P.S. Did I tell you about the stunning floral display at the Duomo yesterday? Oh my, it was breathtaking – so many pink roses and hydrangeas! Milan really knows how to celebrate the beauty of nature.
P.P.P.S. You can keep up with all my adventures on the Pink-Tutu website! I update the blog weekly, on Monday evenings. Be sure to share your favourite pink tutu memories in the comment section – I'm always looking for inspiration.
