Pink Tutu Milan - Post #523 - Wednesday 2005-06-15
Buongiorno, darlings!
It's Wednesday morning, the sun is shining, and I'm just back from a delicious cappuccino and a croissant with the most decadent chocolate filling you can imagine - truly, it was heaven on a plate.
The scent of the cafe and the soft chatter of Italians, all swirling together like a dreamy ballet piece, has put me in the mood for a lovely stroll through the city. Today's agenda? A bit of fashion hunting, a little ballet dreaming, and a delicious afternoon tea - it's going to be a fantastic day in Milano!
But first, a quick catch up on the adventures of your favourite pink tutu-clad traveller. As you know, last week I was swept away by the beautiful architecture of Venice. My heart nearly burst with delight when I finally crossed the Rialto Bridge, a symphony of stone and sunlight that felt as if I was stepping onto a fairytale stage. And of course, no trip to Venice is complete without a gonzolo ride through the canals, those silent gondolas glided us past the Venetian palazzo, the light catching the water, a magic spell of history and beauty that felt truly magical.
Speaking of magic, I spent most of my time in Venice lost in the world of dance. A special performance by the Balletto di Roma was simply unforgettable, a whirling display of grace and artistry that had me weeping with joy (yes, I admit it, I'm a bit of a softy when it comes to ballet!). After that, I ventured into a delightful local studio tucked away in a little courtyard. Such amazing classes, filled with warmth and passionate teachers, all culminating in a joyous pirouette finale. Oh, how I love the feeling of pure, unbridled joy that dancing brings.
I know you love reading about my outfits as much as I love putting them together! My favourite part of my Venetian adventure was definitely the Venetian Masks – they are so stylish and mysterious. I picked up a beautiful black mask, trimmed with feathers, that looked stunning paired with my flowing floral maxi skirt and a bold pink blouse. And of course, no ensemble is complete without the signature Pink Tutu – a perfect pop of colour against the Venice canals, catching the sun's rays and adding a dash of whimsy.
I had to bid adieu to Venice, but leaving those gorgeous buildings, waterways and memories behind me is never easy. Thankfully, a journey by train from Venice to Milan is as exciting as a ballet show. Each passing village and vista is a colourful tableau, each mountain range a grandiose curtain rise. The journey itself is a delightful prelude to exploring this bustling metropolis.
This morning, I was tempted to jump straight into a sparkly, glittery pink tutu and start my dance through Milan! After all, who needs ballet studios when you have the whole city to explore? However, I’m feeling quite exhausted, which is quite unlike me. So I've opted for my usual en pointe street style, a vintage polka-dot skirt, a comfy pink cashmere cardigan and an embroidered clutch bag that twirls like a ballerina when I walk.
This afternoon, I have a meeting with a lovely costume designer, who I’ve been working with on some exciting new ideas for the stage. Perhaps a bit of pinktuting might even be in order! It’s been an incredible journey so far, and I'm excited to see what kind of adventures Milan will hold.
So, darling, if you are dreaming of dancing, exploring new cities, and finding your perfect pink tutu – come with me! Grab your comfy shoes, pack your smile and get ready for some fashion-fueled fun!
Stay tuned, lovelies, Emma
Fashion Corner:
My recent shopping spree in Venice led me to the most wonderful discovery - a vintage clothing shop, tucked away in a cobblestone street, that's filled with vintage Parisian gowns and sparkling sequinned jackets!
It's the kind of place that would make even a ballerina blush!
Oh, darling, the possibilities! The owner, a delightful woman with eyes that sparkled with a genuine passion for fashion and the soul of a ballerina, even if she's never set foot on a stage herself, found a beautiful vintage flapper dress, perfect for a romantic evening by the canals, a gorgeous vintage black and white jumpsuit (so elegant and timeless!), and a fabulous cream blouse with delicate floral embroidery.
She truly captured the spirit of the Parisian "nouvelle vague", perfectly marrying vintage flair with modern-day style. It's a haven for those who love to dress with a dash of whimsicality and it's an absolute must for every vintage-loving pink tutu fan!

The boutiques and department stores are filled with designer goods, everything from couture creations to affordable high street brands. Fashion Tips for your Milan Trip:
Milan is a city where fashion rules! And let's be honest, when in Milan, you want to look your best, just like your favourite ballerina on stage! Here's a bit of advice to get your fashion game on:
Embrace the Italian flair Italy is known for its exquisite style, from the classic silhouettes to the playful use of colours and textures. For the best Milan fashion looks, keep it simple yet elegant, with an Italian twist. A sleek black dress with a vibrant scarf, or a beautiful silk blouse paired with a timeless leather jacket. Remember to choose items that fit perfectly and accentuate your unique shape and style, with an en pointe, chic silhouette.
Ditch the sweats: Milan is a city for putting on your best foot forward, or rather, for wearing your most glamorous shoes! This is the perfect chance to strut those stilettos, flats or ballerina pumps, just be sure they coordinate with your lovely pink tutu! Think chic, elegant and stylish, perfect for ballet hopping through the Milanese streets!
Layer up: The weather in Milan can change quickly! Layer your outfit, start with a beautiful pink tutu layered beneath a comfortable and trendy cardigan or blazer to combat chilly mornings and cool evenings. Let your inner ballerina shine through by adding a delicate lace camisole or blouse underneath a sleek black sweater! This creates depth and texture in your outfit and will help you to stay warm without sacrificing style – after all, even the best ballerinas must stay warm!
Embrace colour, but do it in moderation: Italians have an amazing ability to bring colour to life with flair, so don’t be afraid to play with different hues. Embrace a colour palette that highlights the energy of the city - bold shades of turquoise and teal, fiery crimson and red, and delicate hues of pink. These bold tones can be balanced by subtle neutral colours such as classic black or white. Always remember that the key to the most amazing fashion is not the quantity of colour but how you use it!
Accessories are your friends: Accessorise wisely - they can truly elevate your ensemble from good to spectacular. A beautiful pearl necklace, a statement earrings, or a stylish hat with a pink feather are perfect additions to turn heads and embrace the Milanese flair Don’t forget your fabulous clutch or satchel, especially one in a colour that compliments your outfit and tutu, to help carry your essentials
Pink Tutu - Your Signature Piece Every trip needs a signature style - for me it's my pink tutu! Find a statement piece that captures the essence of your personality. Your tutu, a scarf, a hat or a beautiful pair of sunglasses are all a subtle yet sophisticated way to highlight your personality and become the ultimate fashion icon in Milan!
Most importantly, Have fun: Milan is a vibrant city, filled with culture and charisma so, relax and enjoy every moment, take it all in, dress to impress, and let your personality shine through, pink tutu optional, but highly encouraged!
I’ll leave you with this final thought for now darling:
Milan is a city where every street corner feels like a stage, every café like a boudoir, and every outfit is a beautiful story waiting to be told. Come with me on a pink tutu adventure and let’s create our own Milan story, just be sure to grab your comfy shoes and a big smile – the world is your stage!
Yours in dance,
Emma
