Pink Tutu Milan #534: Ciao Bella!

Wednesday, 31st August 2005

Buongiorno, darlings! Emma here, reporting live from the beautiful, bustling city of Milan! The sun is shining, the air is buzzing, and I'm wearing, you guessed it, my favourite pink tutu. This time, it's a soft, delicate tulle number, the perfect colour to match the soft pastel tones of the stunning Milanese buildings.

As you know, dear readers, this week's adventure is all about Milan! After all, this fabulous fashion capital is practically begging for a pink tutu to add a little extra sparkle and joy to the already vibrant atmosphere. I wouldn't dream of disappointing! And what better way to celebrate being here than with a Pink Tutu Milan special edition blog post? I'm bursting with excitement to share everything I've been up to in the past few days - the glamour, the glitz, the breathtaking architecture, the incredible food (and of course, the shopping!) - and trust me, there's plenty to talk about.

But before I get lost in the details, let me give you a little glimpse into my life in the last couple of days. Imagine: arriving in Milan on a sunny morning, feeling that wonderful rush of anticipation and excitement as the train pulls into the station, all those beautiful buildings beckoning.

The journey by train from Derbyshire, where I’m from, had been pretty idyllic. It wasn’t the express, but a lovely old-fashioned carriage with plush velvet seats, the perfect place to dream up new pink tutu looks. And then there was that delicious croissant I devoured in the little station café… Mmm, so delicious! It wouldn't have been half as tasty without my favourite travel accessory: a gorgeous pink fluffy bag, which not only housed my tutu essentials, but also perfectly matched my bright pink knitted cardigan. You know I can't resist a little colour co-ordination!

Speaking of colour, I'm utterly in love with Milan's vibrant colours! The buildings here are incredible. All those beautiful creamy stone facades, juxtaposed with the bold, bright shades of green and red on the windows, balconies, and doors – a kaleidoscope of pure artistic beauty!

I don't want to bore you with all the architectural details, darling, but I must confess that I couldn’t resist slipping my pink tutu on in the Corso Vittorio Emanuele for a few photos in front of the majestic Duomo, a majestic cathedral that seems to reach up towards the heavens. Honestly, you simply can't not capture those iconic Italian vistas in a pink tutu - the colours are made for each other!

Now, as you all know, shopping is a very important part of my life, especially when travelling. So naturally, a visit to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II was a top priority. What a sight! It was truly like stepping back in time, walking through the glass and iron vaulted passages, past luxurious shops and designer boutiques. I did manage to sneak in some light window shopping, just to get the latest fashion fix, naturally. It seems silk scarves and colourful brooches are quite the trend in Milan at the moment. I simply had to try a few on with my favourite tutu. A perfect look for a trip to the opera perhaps?

Speaking of operas…

Today is the big day! Tonight I'm seeing "Carmen" at Teatro alla Scala!

Yes, you heard me right, darlings! Teatro alla Scala, the famous opera house! It’s a must-see for any passionate soul who appreciates art in all its glory. I couldn't resist adding a touch of Pink Tutu flair to the occasion. You know I love to see a touch of colour in classic theatre settings! So tonight, it's my elegant lace-trimmed pink tutu, perfectly matched to a chic black satin bow at my waist. You can just imagine the elegance of it! It was made especially for an opera evening! And oh my goodness, you can't imagine the excitement I'm feeling! Tonight is all about letting the music whisk me away, surrendering to the magic of opera and embracing the rich artistic beauty of Milan!

The only thing more exciting than my pink tutu wardrobe, however, was what I found just this morning: a beautiful little ballet school, right on the Corso Buenos Aires, a little pink heaven amidst the chaos! You see, darling, every time I'm on the road, my life is dedicated to finding the perfect tutu-infused experiences and exploring ballet's diverse, passionate world. There’s no better way to appreciate a city's cultural life!

After my wonderful (but totally exhausting!) day, the aroma of freshly baked bread pulled me to a tiny bread bakery around the corner - a classic little Milanese family business with generations-old recipes. It's true what they say: "Bread is the staff of life" in Italy, especially in Milan! They have an endless selection of pastries - crunchy, flaky focaccia with herbs, chewy cinnamon-laced bread sticks, and the most delicate almond and apricot tart! You simply HAVE to go.

Well, that’s about all from Milan for this week, darlings. I have to get going to do some last minute pre-opera prep (the pink tutu doesn’t adjust itself, you know!) Don't worry, I will fill you in on every detail tomorrow with a post filled with all the Milanese glamour and inspiration, all, of course, viewed through the magic of pink! I will show you that you simply cannot travel without the perfect pink tutu, darlings!

Until next week, stay sparkly and don't be afraid to wear pink. It's an ode to happiness!

Ciao Bella!
