Milan is like a glamorous ballerina in its own right - elegant, graceful, and oh-so stylish. There's a vibrant energy that fills the streets, making every corner feel alive with creativity and excitement. And me? Well, I fit right in. This city loves its colourful characters, and a pink-clad ballerina definitely falls into that category!
This week, my Milan journey started with a thrilling train ride from Verona. The Italian countryside, bursting with sunflower fields and rolling vineyards, unfolded outside my window. I took inspiration from the rich colours, imagining myself in a dazzling ballet inspired by this dramatic scenery. It wasn't long before I had my ballet sketchbook open, furiously doodling my own vibrant choreography.
Arriving at the station, Milan welcomed me with a symphony of horns, excited chatter, and a distinct whiff of espresso. It felt like stepping into a lively ballet with a soundtrack that pulsated with passion. The tram took me straight to the heart of the city - a graceful glide through the busy streets, with a backdrop of grand buildings, beautiful churches, and shops showcasing some of the most exquisite fashion in the world.
A Dancer's Dream: Milan's Theatre Magic 🩰Let's talk about my love of ballet, shall we? Because this week was filled with enough swirling tutus and graceful pirouettes to give me the biggest ballerina grin. I’m absolutely ecstatic to be in Milan at this time, because they’re running a wonderful series of performances, so I was totally spoiled with choice for my tutu-inspired week!
The Teatro alla Scala: Where do I begin? The world-renowned Teatro alla Scala, a building that radiates history and artistry from its very foundations. Walking into its grand entrance felt like a fairytale come true, a grand promenade straight into the world of classical ballet. This week, they were putting on “Giselle”, a classic with romantic drama and exquisite choreography.
I had a fantastic seat with an unobstructed view, allowing me to take in every feather-light leap, graceful arabesque, and poignant pas de deux. I must say, the beauty of it all took my breath away - the swirling music, the artistry of the dancers, and the grandeur of the setting were all breathtaking.
This theatre truly has something special. You feel the passion for art and performance as you step through the doors. It’s the perfect place to appreciate the legacy of classical ballet, with every element perfectly choreographed. It's a total ballet lover's dream come true!
*And then there's… ballet on the streets?! *
This city never ceases to surprise! As I was walking through a cobbled square near my hotel, I heard the soft strains of music. Looking up, I found a troupe of dancers practicing in the sunshine. The vibrant energy of their performance resonated through the streets, bringing the world around us to life. Their movements, a beautiful blend of contemporary and classical style, told stories without a word.
You know what? This encounter really underscored the vibrant spirit of ballet! Seeing these dancers, full of life and joy, in the heart of a bustling city - it was a powerful moment! It showed that ballet can be found anywhere, at any time.
It inspired me to bring some more pink tutu magic to the city streets. I donned my tutu, practiced my pliés, and showed the city my own personal brand of graceful flair. The locals loved it! So many smiles and curious glances, I felt like I'd sparked a bit of ballet magic right there in the middle of Milan. It was an inspiring moment!

Milan is a paradise for any fashion enthusiast. You could say I have a slight affinity for anything sparkly and colourful, and with the abundance of glamorous stores in the city, my shopping trip this week was everything.
Walking through the city's iconic Quadrilatero della Moda, with its elegant boutiques lining the streets, felt like a fashion ballet itself! I love to soak up the incredible craftsmanship, the dazzling displays, and the undeniable charm of Italian style. This week, I indulged my passion, taking in some incredible shows, attending an elegant afternoon tea, and discovering my newest style inspiration – and no, I’m not just talking about pink tutus, though they will never let me down!
The Pink Tutu Effect:
It's no secret, I believe everyone can benefit from adding a dash of pink and a pinch of tutu-inspired flair to their wardrobe!
So what did I discover? A whole new world of vibrant colours and playful designs, all vying for my attention! The inspiration, let me tell you, was undeniable. This week, I found myself reaching for more bright, bold colours in my wardrobe, finding playful and whimsical additions to my usual classic styles, and embracing a hint of whimsy!
I picked up a delicate silk scarf, woven with delicate pink blossoms, for my hair – you could say it’s my newest pink-tutu-inspired headwear! It perfectly captures the beauty and delicacy of ballet, without being too much! And let's not forget a stunning fuchsia purse. This isn’t your usual practical purse, no. This is bold and playful and the perfect pink addition to every ensemble. I can’t wait to show it off in Derbyshire. And I may even be tempted to wear my new ballet shoes, inspired by classic Italian dance footwear – they come in pink, of course.
Pink Tutu Memories, Milan Style
So many amazing experiences filled this week - from watching a powerful dance performance at La Scala to meeting those wonderful street dancers in the heart of the city.
As the sun begins to set over Milan, casting a warm glow on the Duomo and the iconic rooftops, I sit down to write this post, my heart overflowing with gratitude and inspiration. This trip is one I will remember forever!

This city has sparked a newfound confidence in me, and as I write this, I can already hear the sweet melodies of my ballet-inspired dreams, with my new ballet shoes, a fuchsia handbag, and my delicate pink scarf - I feel ready for my own pink-tutu-inspired ballet!
