Pink Tutu Milan #536: Ciao Bella!
Wednesday, 14th September 2005
Buongiorno, darlings! It's your favourite pink-tutu-clad travel enthusiast, Emma, writing to you live from the fabulous city of Milan, Italy! This week's post is a special one, as it marks a significant milestone – my 536th blog entry! I can hardly believe it's been so long, and thank you all so much for joining me on this journey, from my home in Derbyshire to the sparkling lights of Europe!
I'm sitting in my favourite café near the Duomo, enjoying a cappuccino (they do the best ones here!) and soaking up the beautiful Milanese sunshine. This city is simply buzzing with energy! The air is alive with the sounds of scooters whizzing past, people chatting in excited Italian, and, of course, the delicious aroma of fresh pasta cooking in every restaurant. I love the atmosphere!
This week, Milan is alive with fashion and, of course, that includes a lot of dancing! I have a truly fabulous ballet performance lined up tonight, featuring the legendary Roberto Bolle. Oh my, his leaps and turns are simply divine, and his costumes are just to die for – imagine sparkling velvet with feather embellishments – I simply can't wait!
Adventures in Style
Yesterday, I spent a morning at the wonderful La Rinascente department store. Now, I'm a girl who truly appreciates a bit of retail therapy, and La Rinascente is simply heaven on earth. It's a treasure trove of gorgeous designer labels and quirky, independent shops. Imagine racks and racks of stunning clothes, shoes, accessories, and, my favourite - an entire floor dedicated to home decor! It's impossible to leave without buying at least something. Luckily, I scored a beautiful silk scarf that perfectly matches my new ballet shoes - a perfect souvenir! And who can resist a beautiful pair of shoes in the fabulous colour pink, right?
I couldn't resist stopping by the Gucci boutique – after all, every ballerina deserves a little touch of luxury! Their new collection was just divine, particularly the handbag inspired by a ballerina's dance bag – how fabulous!
Tutus, Tram Rides, and Timeless Art
The highlight of my trip so far has been visiting the Museo Poldi Pezzoli – a real hidden gem in the heart of Milan. It houses a collection of stunning art, furniture, and decorative objects from the 15th to 19th centuries. Honestly, it felt like stepping back in time – think intricately carved furniture, tapestries, and stunning portraits. They even had a few beautiful, elaborate ballet costumes on display, which definitely sparked some inspiration for my own tutu creations!
The best way to navigate this fabulous city? By tram, of course! I simply adore those bright yellow trams with their ornate details and squeaky sounds as they trundle through the streets. The windows offer the perfect view of the architecture and the locals bustling about their day. Plus, they’re wonderfully affordable, letting you explore without breaking the bank!
Speaking of exploring, my plans for the week include indulging in some delicious pasta, catching the new opera production at La Scala, and perhaps, even a little impromptu ballet performance in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, that beautiful shopping arcade, just for fun, of course! Imagine a graceful pirouette under the iconic glass dome - wouldn't that be amazing?
Tutu Dreams
It's clear that Milan is truly a city of inspiration for both my wardrobe and my dance routines. Everywhere I look, from the fashionable people to the historic buildings, it's a feast for the eyes. And just imagine my delight when I spotted a gorgeous pink tutu in the window of a charming little boutique - what a coincidence, right? It just begs me to wear it around town, reminding everyone of the power and joy of ballet and, of course, of the fabulous colour pink. Because let’s be honest, wouldn't the world be a brighter place if everyone embraced their inner ballerina and danced around in a beautiful, pink tutu?
Catch you all next Monday with more adventures in Pink Tutu Milan!
Until next week, stay twirling!
Emma
