Pink Tutu Milan - Post #537 - Wednesday 2005-09-21

Buongiorno, darlings! It's Emma, your Pink Tutu blogger, here, beaming at you all the way from Milan! Today is Wednesday, and it's a special one, because it means Pink Tutu Milan post time.

My Italian adventure is going from strength to strength! And today is a day dedicated to a celebration of all things elegant, graceful, and of course, pink! I know you are all wondering what adventures I've been up to in Milan, so grab a cuppa and let's have a chat!

Fashion with a Tutu Twist

So, it's safe to say that the fashion scene in Milan is out of this world, darling. The cobbled streets of this chic city are a kaleidoscope of colours, textures, and trends. This week I discovered the most adorable little boutique on the Corso Vittorio Emanuele II. Imagine a shop window overflowing with shimmering sequined boleros, shimmering silk scarves, and sparkly embellished cocktail dresses, all in shades of candy pink. And let me tell you, my darlings, I walked out of that shop like a fashion princess! I snagged a new sequined top to match my pink tutu, because you never know, I might just meet some stylish Italian gentlemen for a waltz in the piazza, right? 😉

Speaking of my favourite piece of attire, you wouldn't believe how many eyes were glued to my pink tutu this week! The trams are definitely a hotbed of tutuing, where everyone looks at me as if I’m straight from a fairy tale! A dapper-looking gentleman on the metro even offered me a seat, whispering, “Sei meravigliosa! (You're wonderful!)." Gosh, darling, the Italian charm is really working on me.

A Night at the Teatro alla Scala

Oh my word, last night, darlings, was just pure magic! The Teatro alla Scala, that's the ultimate in Milanese opulence, if you ask me. I mean, just the grand façade, the red velvet seating, the exquisite architecture, and then there's the spectacle itself.

This week I saw "La Traviata" - a heart-wrenching tale of love and loss, set against the opulent backdrop of 19th-century Paris. The singers' voices soared through the ornate theatre, and I swear, the very air thrummed with the emotion of their performance. My pink tutu just shimmered like a celestial light, making it all feel even more spectacular.

There is simply something about experiencing ballet in a venue as historical and beautiful as the Scala. It feels like you're part of something so much larger than yourself. It takes you to another world! I simply love ballet in every shape and form, darling, but watching the professionals perform on stage, that's a truly breathtaking experience.

Ballet by Day

Milan is bursting with ballet! This morning, I had the pleasure of joining a beginner's ballet class. It's right in the heart of the city, nestled amidst cobblestone streets and overflowing cafes. It was a wonderfully challenging class. There were even some other international ladies in the class - and I realised there was so much we could understand each other through just our smiles and a few simple phrases like “chapeau" and "demi-plié”. The language of ballet is truly universal, darling!

This afternoon I am off to one of Milan’s iconic landmarks, a small hidden jewel tucked away on Via Brera - the Brera Art Gallery. They've just installed a new exhibit of famous female ballet artists, including an iconic photograph of the late, great Margot Fonteyn, a vision of grace and elegance.

After the Gallery, it's off to the Palazzo Reale, Milan’s stately palace and a magnificent venue for exhibits and performances. They’ve been showcasing “Ballet – The Dance of Dreams” for a few months, and I just had to pop along to be inspired by the artistry and dedication that go into this most captivating of dance forms.

Foodie Fun

Of course, darling, no Milan trip is complete without a feast for the senses. This week I’ve sampled a torta di riso (rice cake), delicious and beautifully delicate. Then there's the panna cotta, so silky and smooth, it just melts in your mouth. I always love to wander through the markets, seeking out the freshest produce and regional specialities, and to just enjoy the bustle of the streets. It's like a visual feast too - so many beautiful people to see, so much history, and so many delicious food smells - you’ll want to wear your new pink tutu in every shot you take!

The Pink Tutu Mission

I am, as you know, a dedicated champion for tutus. And my journey through Milan has definitely been an exploration of pink tutu possibilities. From a classic pink tutu for an evening stroll through the city, to a bolder version for a dazzling ballet class, I think you'll find me in tutus of various hues wherever I go.

And so, darling, until next week, here’s to the pinkest dreams! Please do join me at Pink Tutu Milan on the Pink Tutu blog each week - it’s a joy to connect with all of you, wherever you are, to celebrate all things pink, tutu-ful, and simply fabulous! And if you’re feeling inspired by my pink tutu escapades, why not share your own fashion adventures with me?

I’m off to catch a vintage movie with a classic French theme, "Gigi," a little treat after my morning at the ballet.

Ciao for now!
