Pink Tutu Milan: #579 - Ciao Bella, Milano!

Hello, darlings! It's Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-wearing, ballet-obsessed, travel blogger, back with another post from the most glamorous city in Italy - Milano!

As always, I'm absolutely bursting with excitement to share all the fabulous finds and experiences I've had this week.

Travelling by Tram, Chicly, of course

I arrived in Milan last Saturday, the journey from Derbyshire on the train a leisurely one, filled with the rhythmic chugging of the train wheels, my pink tutu adding a touch of whimsy to the otherwise perfectly sleek, modern carriage.

Landing in Milano, the air hummed with the energy of a thousand Italian motors and a million fashionistas rushing by. And let's just say, Milan does not disappoint in the sartorial stakes! Even the street-sweepers seemed to possess an air of sophistication!

I've settled into a darling little hotel in the city centre, all marble and muted tones. A bit of a change from my usually cheerful pink room back in Derbyshire, but oh, so glamorous! The highlight of the hotel? The breathtaking chandelier in the lobby, a magnificent display of glittering crystals that makes you want to twirl and curtsey under its twinkling light.

I'm making the most of Milan's excellent public transport system, the tram proving to be a chic way to navigate the city, whizzing past shops overflowing with beautiful things and vibrant street markets teeming with life. Of course, my pink tutu is attracting quite the attention, everyone giving me wide-eyed smiles and enthusiastic “Ciao!”s!

A Ballet Obsession: Milan’s Magnificent Opera House

On Monday, I had the absolute pleasure of attending a ballet performance at the Teatro alla Scala, Milan’s legendary opera house. I was positively buzzing with excitement, and a little bit terrified, at the thought of this world-renowned venue.

I dressed for the occasion, my pale pink tutu flowing with every step I took, a simple black top and a delicate pearl necklace the perfect accent to my ballerina look.

The theatre was stunningly beautiful. Stepping inside felt like entering a magical, gilded world of plush red velvet seats, ornate balconies and stunning chandeliers that seemed to shimmer with the energy of centuries of performance. The sheer scale and opulence were almost breathtaking.

The ballet was an exquisitely choreographed adaptation of Swan Lake, with powerful performances and graceful movements that drew me into their story. The passion and technical skill of the dancers left me speechless and utterly captivated. I even managed to snap a few photos of the finale (of course, all very discreetly, I wouldn't want to distract from the performance!)

Shopping Spree: A Pink Paradise

Of course, no trip to Milan would be complete without a serious shopping spree, and my Pink Tutu adventure here has been filled with delightful discoveries and fashion inspiration.

Milan, my dears, is a pink paradise! It's not hard to find every shade of pink imaginable – from dusty rose and pale blush to vibrant fuchsia and candy pink. There's pink in the shops, pink on the people, pink everywhere you look!

It’s like the city is inviting me to embrace my favourite colour even more than I already do. I’ve been shopping non-stop since arriving, picking up a collection of pink feather boas, delicate silk scarves, sparkly pink headbands, and a pair of exquisite pink ballet shoes, just perfect for twirling through the streets of Milan!

I have a few favourites, like the stunning pink tutu-inspired dress that is positively breathtaking. Imagine layers and layers of tulle, a perfect pink, just like my own favourite tutu, but with a touch of glamorous Milanese sophistication. I can't wait to wear it to my next ballet performance, I’ll look positively fairytale-esque!

And speaking of pink… oh, my dears! I spotted a darling shop window filled with nothing but pink tutus! From the most delicate and dainty, all the way to grand and majestic. My heart practically skipped a beat. There was even a tutu in a vibrant shade of hot pink – a complete riot of colour, a dream for a bold and dramatic ballerina!

A Taste of Italy

A trip to Italy wouldn't be complete without indulging in the delicious culinary delights on offer.

Yesterday, I savoured the most incredible bowl of creamy risotto al parmigiano in a cosy little trattoria just off the beaten track. I am a complete sucker for Italian food - the hearty flavours, the delicious aroma, the charming and vibrant atmosphere in the trattorias – It's simply wonderful. I can't leave without sampling as much of it as I possibly can.

More Milan Magic to Come

I'm absolutely smitten with Milan. It's a whirlwind of fashion, culture, and delicious food. Every corner seems to be bursting with stories, glamour and something just a little bit special. And as my favourite pink tutu twirls effortlessly through the streets, I know I'll be soaking up the Milanese magic for many more days to come!

I can't wait to share more of my pink tutu Milan adventures in next week's post! In the meantime, I'll be busy exploring, shopping, and of course, enjoying every last moment of my Italian escapade!

Ciao Bella,

Emma xo

Wednesday, July 12th, 2006.

The heat of the summer sun bathes Milano in its golden light. The sky is a bright blue canvas, sprinkled with a few fluffy clouds. A light breeze, warm with the promise of the evening, whispers through the trees in Piazza del Duomo, the city’s grand central square. A lively buzz of chatter and laughter floats through the air, punctuated by the melodious calls of street performers and the rumble of trams gliding through the busy streets.

Today, Wednesday, July 12th, 2006, is filled with exciting events, and Milan is positively abuzz with the anticipation of all that is to come.

This afternoon, I plan on exploring the beautiful gardens in the heart of the city. It is rumored that the rose bushes are bursting with the most exquisite flowers. And I hear that there are a couple of shops in those gardens with exquisite hand-painted scarves that would be the perfect addition to my pink wardrobe!

Tonight, the Teatro alla Scala hosts a stunning performance of La Traviata by Verdi. I plan on joining a few other ballet enthusiasts and theatre aficionados at a pre-performance dinner. The excitement of hearing this legendary opera performed in its home is almost too much to bear!

Oh, my dears! The pink tulle whispers its promise, beckoning me into a life filled with ballet, shopping, and the boundless joy of pink, all whilst discovering the very heart of Milan. This is simply a dream come true, a pink tutu dream come true.
