Pink Tutu Milan: Week 581 - From Derbyshire to Milan, with a Touch of Pink!

Buongiorno, miei cari amici! It's Emma here, back with you from the bustling, beautiful streets of Milan, Italy. I know what you're thinking: “Milan in July? Is she crazy?” But trust me, there's no better time to be in this fashion-forward city!

As you know, my travels are fuelled by the joy of ballet - every pirouette and grand jeté takes me one step closer to my next destination. And this week, my trusty pink tutu led me straight to Milan, where a magical week of performances, shopping, and all things pink await!

This is my very first trip to Milan, and I'm absolutely in love! There’s such a vibrant energy here, and the architecture is simply breathtaking. From the gothic Duomo to the sleek modern buildings, every corner is a picture postcard. I've been exploring the city on foot, but also taking advantage of the trams and trains. You see, there's something magical about traveling like a local! I've been enjoying the sights and smells, people watching, and taking in the Italian charm – a cappuccino and a cannoli on a sun-drenched terrace? Perfection!

A Ballet Bonanza

Now, I'm not just here for the beautiful scenery! As you know, ballet is my absolute passion, and Milan has an abundance of talent and performances to feast my eyes on. This week, I've been lucky enough to catch two spectacular shows at the Teatro alla Scala:

  • Romeo and Juliet: The classic story of love and loss told with breathtaking artistry and incredible emotion. The costumes, the music, the sheer athleticism of the dancers - everything about it was perfection.
  • Swan Lake: A ballet favourite, and for good reason! The white swans were ethereal, the black swans wicked, and the prince absolutely swoon-worthy. It's a ballet that never fails to captivate.

Milan's Ballet School Buzz

And the magic doesn't stop there! I've also been to the famous Teatro alla Scala Ballet School, such a vibrant hub for young, talented dancers! The dedication, the focus, the pure joy on their faces – it truly inspires. I’m trying my hardest to stay fit enough for the daily class! It is exhausting! I watched the students’ progress, marveling at their skill and dedication. Their passion for dance was contagious, and I couldn't help but be inspired.

A Fashionable Journey Through Milan

Of course, no trip to Milan would be complete without a little shopping therapy! I've been scouring the city’s amazing shops and markets, indulging my love for all things fashion. Milan has some incredible boutiques, but the vintage markets were where I found some real gems – from a silk scarf in a stunning floral pattern, to a vintage ballet shoe with a worn leather strap, I simply had to add them to my collection!

You see, fashion is so much more than just clothes; it's an art form. And in Milan, it's practically a religion! The people here are so chic and stylish, their love for fashion truly inspiring.

The Allure of Pink

As for my beloved pink, it seems Milan has a soft spot for this color, too! I’ve seen shades of pink everywhere – from the flowers blooming in window boxes to the pastel walls of the city’s cafes. Even the trams seem to have a hint of blush! And naturally, I’ve been wearing my favourite pink tutu everywhere I go. People smile, they stare, they point – the attention’s a bit overwhelming but oh-so-fun!

The best part is, everyone’s been so supportive, from the locals to the fellow ballet enthusiasts I’ve met on my adventures. It's amazing how much a little pink can brighten someone's day! And let's face it, my tutu is the ultimate icebreaker - it makes it so easy to meet new friends.

Food, Culture, and Finding my Inner Ballerina

Of course, no travel blog would be complete without a food report. I've been indulging in the most delicious pasta, the most divine gelato, and the most refreshing Aperol Spritzes. Oh, the food here is just heavenly!

But the highlight of my week has to be joining a ballet class in the city's heart. This incredible studio, tucked away on a cobbled street, gave me the opportunity to learn some classic moves from a master teacher! And let me tell you, that was quite the challenge. My body may be more accustomed to Derbyshire hills than ballet steps these days, but with the energy of my fellow dancers I did my very best and gave it my all. My legs are still a little sore! But it was worth every ounce of effort.

This week has been filled with laughter, learning, and new discoveries. Milan, with its ballet, its fashion, its vibrant culture and, of course, its pastel pink touches, has been a truly enchanting experience. It’s no wonder I have made a decision.

From Derbyshire to Milan… to the World!

Here's to spreading the joy of ballet, one pink tutu at a time! And I have an idea! My dear readers, what do you say we launch a “Pink Tutu Challenge”? Let's see how many of us can wear pink tutus this coming week – even if it's just for a few hours, let's embrace the pink and the magic it brings!

Next week, I'll be posting from a new exciting location, with more adventures and, of course, a pink tutu to grace the scenery!

Until then, keep dancing!

Love, Emma
