Pink Tutu Milan: Ciao Bella! Post 642 (26th September 2007)

Oh, hello darlings! Welcome back to my little corner of the internet where dreams of tutus twirl in a whirlwind of pink! I'm Emma, your resident pink tutu aficionado, and this week finds me nestled in the heart of Milan, Italy! I've traded in the rolling Derbyshire hills for the bustling piazzas and stunning architecture of this fabulous city, and trust me, I'm absolutely smitten!

Before I launch into my adventures, let me tell you, Milan has taken my love for all things fashion to a whole new level! The boutiques are divine, the craftsmanship exquisite, and the styles...oh, the styles! I'm practically drowning in a sea of silk, velvet, and lace, and I wouldn't have it any other way!

Now, let me take you on a whirlwind tour of my Milan escapades! This week has been an absolute dream, full of tutus, triumphs, and of course, some delicious Italian treats!

Monday: Arriving in Milan is always such an experience. The energy of the city is electric! This time, I arrived with my faithful companion, my suitcase crammed with an assortment of pink tutus, of course, because one can never have too many! My first stop, after dropping my luggage at my quaint little hotel nestled amongst cobblestone streets, was naturally a chic cafe for a little coffee and people-watching. My eyes were practically glued to the street, watching as stylish Milanese women strutted by, each one a walking fashion inspiration. My notepad was out in a flash, scribbling down outfit ideas.

Later that evening, it was off to Teatro alla Scala, the most beautiful opera house I've ever seen! The grandeur of the theatre is breathtaking, adorned with stunning murals and shimmering gold accents. I was attending a performance of Verdi’s “Aida” and let me tell you, the voices! Absolutely exquisite! Every note seemed to dance and soar, and I found myself lost in the story and the pure artistry of the singers and the orchestra. Afterwards, I strolled through the charming cobblestone streets of Brera, stopping to admire the quaint art galleries and antique shops. There's nothing quite like browsing through a little Italian boutique, the air filled with the scent of leather and the clink of antique jewellery.

Tuesday: Today was a day for indulging my inner ballerina! I ventured to the world-renowned Teatro alla Scala’s ballet school and joined a class of enthusiastic dancers for a delightful ballet session. Imagine, learning moves under the guidance of instructors trained at the heart of ballet itself! Let me tell you, it was exhilarating! The room was alive with the rhythmic tapping of feet and the whispers of tutus. Of course, I was in my pinkest, twirliest tutu, because it’s simply impossible to resist wearing a bit of pink when you're dancing, right?

Afterwards, I rewarded my aching muscles with a stroll through the Parco Sempione, the lungs of Milan. I felt as if I'd stepped into a Monet painting, surrounded by vibrant hues of emerald green and blooming flowers. Later, the delicious aroma of pizza lured me into a bustling trattoria for an unforgettable meal. Oh, that cheese! Simply heavenly! And the laughter! It’s a joy to experience the passion of the locals, their contagious enthusiasm making you feel right at home.

Wednesday: It’s Wednesday and Milan is beckoning! The weather is crisp and clear, so I opted to spend my morning strolling along the Via Montenapoleone. Now, you guys, this is fashion paradise! Boutiques from Gucci to Prada line the streets, the window displays practically begging to be admired! But oh, the prices! A girl can dream, right? I felt like Cinderella, mesmerized by the luxurious display. Even though my bank account winced a bit, the window-shopping experience was simply fabulous!

In the afternoon, I took a relaxing ride on Milan’s tram, the “tram storico”, to soak up the city's vibes and marvel at its charm. It's a classic Milan experience, buzzing with locals, students, and even tourists who, like me, are mesmerized by its quaint charm. As the sun dipped below the city skyline, I made my way to the Basilica di Sant'Ambrogio, one of the oldest and most historically important churches in Milan. It's a masterpiece of Lombard Romanesque architecture. And did I mention the stunning mosaics? Truly magnificent!

Thursday: A crisp autumnal breeze was in the air this morning as I explored the captivating city centre, brimming with charming squares and fascinating alleyways. I got a taste of local life in Milan, sipping on steaming cappuccino, savouring a panino stuffed with fresh Italian cheeses, and basking in the vibrant atmosphere of the bustling piazzas.

As dusk settled over Milan, I hopped onto a delightful train journey to Bergamo, a medieval city just an hour from Milan. A beautiful city that holds centuries of history, nestled at the foot of the Alps! There was nothing I loved more than getting lost in the winding streets of the Upper Town, marveling at its ancient fortifications.

Friday: Bergamo was my canvas for a day of artistic exploration. Wandering through the picturesque cobblestone alleys of Città Alta, I found myself drawn to a hidden gallery exhibiting a dazzling array of local artists' works. It was an inspiring glimpse into the creativity that flourishes in this city. The charming galleries and quirky workshops along the cobblestone lanes, where the scents of old leather and the soft whispers of creativity filled the air.

Later, I treated myself to a hearty, wholesome Italian dinner in Bergamo's charming old town. It was a delightful medley of authentic flavours, from hearty polenta to delicious mushroom-filled pasta. Each bite was a taste of true Italian life. The atmosphere was vibrant and lively, with the sound of laughter and animated chatter all around.

Saturday: Waking up to the vibrant sights and sounds of Milan, I knew today would be filled with adventure. And guess what? I’m seeing a ballet performance at Teatro alla Scala! They're doing Tchaikovsky's 'Swan Lake'. You know, with all the fluffy tutus and graceful movements! I absolutely cannot wait!

Sunday: Ah, a lazy Sunday spent savouring Milan. Today I discovered a small, quaint bakery tucked away on a side street. The smell of freshly baked bread and pastries practically dragged me in, where I discovered a heaven of mouthwatering delicacies. Oh, the delights! From croissants dusted with powdered sugar to creamy almond biscotti, I indulged in a blissful morning of sweetness. After a relaxing stroll through a peaceful park, I bid farewell to this enchanting city. As my train carried me back towards Derbyshire, a part of me ached to return, yearning for the allure of Milan’s graceful elegance.

And there you have it, darlings! My whirlwind tour of Milan! I hope you’ve enjoyed my adventures in this fabulous city of fashion, art, and delectable food. It’s safe to say, this has been another pink tutu dream come true! Maybe I’ll even inspire you to wear your very own pink tutu! It's never too late to add a touch of magic to your life, so what are you waiting for? Go on, let your inner ballerina shine!

Until next Monday, darlings!
