Pink Tutu Milan #660: Wednesday 30th January 2008 - A Pink Day in Milano!

Ciao bella!

It’s me, Emma, your favourite pink-loving, tutu-wearing blogger, back from the dazzling city of Milan.

The snow may be falling outside, but my heart is still basking in the warm Italian sunshine. This week has been a whirl of tulle and sequins, beautiful shoes, and enough pasta to satisfy even the most demanding ballerina. Let me tell you all about it!

Trams, Trains, and Tutus - The Journey to Milan

My journey from Derbyshire to Milan is a bit of a trek, but it's worth every second, believe me! First, a quick train to London, a cuppa and a scone at my favourite cafe, and then it's on to Eurostar for a whizz through the Channel Tunnel. Reaching Paris, I was enchanted by the City of Lights - and by a lovely old lady who complimented my pink tutu as I dashed to the train platform! Such a lovely lady.

After a seamless journey on the TGV, I was in Milan, ready to embrace the city. One thing that struck me immediately was the sheer elegance of this city. I felt as if I was stepping out of a vintage fashion magazine. The buildings, the people, even the trams – everything exudes this chic sophistication. Of course, I had my pink tutu on, but I felt right at home!

Ballet Bonanza at Teatro alla Scala

My first mission was to see the magnificent Teatro alla Scala, an opera house steeped in history. The exterior is just breathtaking, with its classical facade, elegant balconies, and grandeur that took my breath away. I even found myself mimicking the poses of the graceful marble sculptures that adorned the building – and naturally, I added a little bit of a pink tutu flourish!

After gazing at the exterior for a good long while, it was time to explore the interior. My breath was taken away – what an incredible space! A dazzling chandelier, a velvet-lined balcony, the incredible acoustics that must fill the whole theatre… This theatre just emanated a tangible history and heritage, so palpable I could almost hear the echoes of past performances.

On a side note, have you seen those Italian ladies in their amazing fur coats, heels, and bags? I was in fashion heaven!

A Ballet Class Fit for a Princess

The next morning, I found myself on the beautiful streets of Milan, determined to find a ballet studio where I could indulge in some elegant pirouettes. And I did! Tucked away down a side street, a beautifully appointed ballet studio was my new favourite place for a while. I spent the morning twirling with fellow ballet enthusiasts, our steps synchronised with the rhythm of Italian music. The atmosphere was just electric, filled with so much passion and artistry. The teacher was so patient and inspiring – I learned so much about elegance, grace, and even a few cheeky ballet secrets!

Milan Shopping: A Fashion Extravaganza

Milan is a fashion capital, and for a girl who loves clothes and tutus as much as I do, this city is simply irresistible. I took a leisurely walk through Via Montenapoleone, one of Milan’s most glamorous shopping streets. Luxury shops, boutiques filled with elegant garments and stylish shoes… oh, the dream! I fell in love with the colours, the fabrics, and the attention to detail. Of course, my pink tutu made its grand appearance during my shopping escapade. Let’s just say I made a few fashion friends in that elegant shop!

My Milan Favourites:

Milan has truly stolen a piece of my heart. This city's elegant architecture, delicious food (pasta!), passionate art scene, and friendly locals have created a truly unforgettable experience. It's a city where ballet lovers like me feel right at home.

Some of my favourites from this week:

  • The Teatro alla Scala: It’s more than a theatre; it's an architectural masterpiece.
  • Ballet class: It’s like an extra dimension of grace added to a day already filled with beautiful sights.
  • Shopping in Via Montenapoleone: Who doesn't love the fashion therapy of finding new items?
  • The trams: So beautifully restored, taking me on a journey back in time while taking me to some gorgeous destinations.
  • The locals: I find Italians to be so open, genuine, and warm. They’re full of personality.

I can’t wait to share more Milan adventures with you next week! Don't forget to check out my blog www.pink-tutu.com. I'll be back with more fun from this incredible city, a bit more Italian flavour in my steps, and perhaps a new addition to my tutu collection. Ciao for now!
