Pink Tutu Milan #669: A whirlwind of tutus and trams!

Ciao from Milano, my darlings! This week I'm bringing you a blast of pink straight from the heart of Italy, where the gelato is creamy and the cobblestones are as chic as a Chanel handbag. This is post #669 in my Pink Tutu Milan weekly series, bringing you all the glitz and glamour of this fabulous city, straight to your screens every Monday.

It feels like only yesterday I was pirouetting in Derbyshire, surrounded by the rolling hills and quaint tea rooms. But here I am, living my dream, dancing my heart out and exploring the vibrant city of Milan, all thanks to my beloved tutus. It's amazing how much freedom and happiness wearing a pink tutu can bring. Seriously, try it! You might just find yourself twirling down the cobblestones of Milan alongside a chic Italian signora in her stylish pink heels. It's truly empowering!

A day of wonder, trams and tutus

This week began with a whirlwind of a morning, just like the beautiful mosaic floor of Milan’s Duomo, which I just couldn't resist adding to my Instagram story! After a hearty Italian breakfast of fresh pastries and frothy cappuccino (always with a sprinkle of sugar!), I set off for my morning ballet class at Teatro alla Scala, which has got to be the most beautiful theatre in all of Italy. Even the trams in Milan are as elegant as a prima ballerina, with their pastel hues and intricately carved details - a bit like a ballet carriage, but on rails! It's truly magical to ride on them through the bustling city streets, spotting chic Italians and colourful street performers, who even add a bit of impromptu "ballet street" magic, always so inspiring.

I spent my afternoon at a stunning vintage boutique, 'Fanciulla Bella,' hidden down a tiny cobblestone street. It felt like I'd walked into a scene from a fashion movie, filled with fabulous feathered hats and glamorous velvet jackets - imagine my delight when I found a silk rose pink blouse and a sequined handbag to match my new pink satin ballerina shoes (always essential, you never know when you might be called upon for an impromptu twirl!).

Later in the evening, I had a glorious experience, an opulent ballet performance of "Swan Lake." I just have to mention, it's truly mind blowing to be in this city, a place so drenched in artistry and performance history, especially at the majestic La Scala. It was pure enchantment, with such beautiful costumes and dancers who literally took flight on stage. Honestly, the only thing missing was a pink tutu. Maybe next time!

From Derbyshire to Milan: A ballet dream

And you know, if you hadn't noticed, my Pink Tutu Milan journey isn't just about ballet, it's about finding the joy in life. Finding the beauty and wonder in the simple things, like enjoying the scent of fresh croissants baking at the patisserie, admiring the elegant designs of the trams, or even just enjoying a spontaneous dance with strangers on a sun-drenched Piazza.

Being in Milan feels like a permanent dose of glitter and a continuous performance. The city itself is alive with energy, creativity and an almost palpable sense of passion, whether it's in the rustling leaves of the magnificent Botanical Gardens or in the passionate debates in a lively trattoria.

It's certainly a different experience from my childhood days in Derbyshire, where life was slower paced, the beauty less dramatic, and the only tutus in town were reserved for the annual Christmas school production (although I always went above and beyond with the pinkest of pink tulle!).

And you know what, I truly believe that bringing a bit of "pink tutu" joy to the world is possible! We can all embrace the wonder, find beauty in the unexpected, and create our own stage in the grand theater of life. Because ultimately, a pink tutu is more than just a piece of clothing; it's a reminder that we are all dancers in this grand spectacle of life.

Pink Tutu Challenge

Now, because we love to spread joy and have some fun, I'm issuing a "Pink Tutu Challenge!" I challenge you to put on a pink tutu, dance your heart out and share it with the world!

I don't mean just sharing on Instagram, darling, I mean taking your tutu out into the world, showing it to your family, to strangers, maybe even start a dance flash mob!

Go on, be bold, be brave, and unleash the tutu within. The world needs more pink and joy, and trust me, the pink tutu magic works! And for those of you brave enough, remember to tag your tutu escapades with #PinkTutuChallenge! I'll be watching!

And of course, keep checking in for more adventures on PinkTutu Milan every Monday, where you'll be joining me on a whimsical, glittering journey across Italy and beyond. Next week, we'll be diving into the vibrant and eclectic art scene of Milan. Who knows what unexpected discoveries will await us? But one thing is certain: the tutus will be flowing and the fun will be in full swing!

Stay radiant,

Emma
