Pink Tutu Milan - #672 - Wednesday 2008-04-23

Ciao bellas!

Well, here I am in Milan! This amazing, chic city is radiating an energy that's hard to describe. Just being here, in this bustling hub of fashion, culture, and of course, fabulous ballet, feels like I'm taking a giant leap toward my pink tutu dream.

And just a quick note before we dive into today's adventures – did you know it's World Book Day today? How lovely, right? Books are just like little universes you can dip into. Imagine a book about a little girl in Derbyshire who discovers a magic pink tutu that takes her to fantastical ballet worlds! 🩰

The Milan Metro is my pink haven

The past couple of days have been an absolute whirlwind. I arrived in the most amazing, bright pink floral dress – a complete vision, even if I do say so myself. And because I wanted to embrace Milan's unique style, I popped on a pair of sassy leopard-print pumps. I just felt so Italian, darling!

Stepping out of Milano Centrale, the train station, into the warm Milanese sun felt like entering a fairytale. My first impression of the city was wow! From there I caught the Metro (it’s pink! I knew it!) and made my way to my apartment – which is just off the most adorable, little cobbled square! The apartment is very simple but charming and clean and of course has the most glorious pink armchair, perfect for lounging in, catching up with my online friends, and writing these blogs!

Finding Ballet in Milan

I've already spotted a lovely little ballet studio near my apartment, with the cutest shop selling pink ballet shoes and tutus! It was a must-visit. They had so many gorgeous designs! The staff there were a delight - all of them were warm and welcoming!

Later that evening I went to the beautiful Teatro alla Scala! This iconic theatre is even more spectacular in real life than in photographs. It felt almost spiritual, with its beautiful architecture, history and its reputation for legendary performances. It is truly a place where art and beauty come to life!

The Ballet Dreams Take Shape

Oh, the ballet performance I saw last night! The dancers were so graceful, so powerful, so precise. It was almost like they were floating. They looked so light and ethereal and I even cried during one part of the performance! My heart was overflowing with happiness and it made me think about my ballet dreams and how it felt to just be there, watching, feeling the incredible emotions that came with it!

Shopping for Style!

Naturally, my first morning was devoted to the wonderful world of shopping. Milan is a treasure trove of stylish boutiques, all packed full of tempting treasures.

Oh, how I love to lose myself in the kaleidoscopic world of clothes! Every fabric, every stitch, every colour sings a beautiful melody. The designs, oh darling, the designs - they are so modern and fresh, they’re just like dreams!

But even amidst the whirlwind of style, my pink tutus remain my passion. So I've spent some precious time in my little studio today. I even put on a short show just for myself, a sweet little performance to warm up for the evening's main event.

A Bite of Milan

You wouldn't believe what I had for lunch today! I tried the most divine pasta dish at this charming trattoria down a narrow alley. It was topped with a delicious, creamy pesto sauce, oh so lovely! And for dessert? The creamiest, most delicious gelato you can imagine! I truly think they must be the sweetest in the whole of Italy.

And you know what else? I love using public transport. Riding on the trams feels so chic! Milan's tram system is brilliant. It’s really easy to use and its such a fun way to explore the city. Plus it has the added bonus of getting a little bit of that precious Vitamin D in.

On to The Big Show

Now, the reason I’ve chosen to be in Milan for the next two weeks, it’s all about the ballet show I am planning on seeing! It's a ballet adaptation of “Sleeping Beauty”! I am so, so, SO excited to see it. The costumes are meant to be beyond stunning, with this show being particularly famous for the elegance of its dresses, I imagine them shimmering like spun moonlight. And they even have special effects, how fun is that!

Now, darling, I’ve got to go and get ready for tonight’s big night! There’s so much more I want to tell you, about this lovely city and my exciting adventures. So keep checking back every week, for another fabulous episode from “Pink Tutu Milan”

With a smile,

Emma.
