Pink Tutu Milan: Post 705 – A Whirlwind Wednesday in the Fashion Capital!

Ciao Bella!

It's Emma here, back from another fabulously pink adventure in the magnificent Milan! Today, we're kicking off Wednesday with a celebratory "Buongiorno!" as we mark another week of tutus, twirls and tons of fun in the Italian fashion capital.

So, let's get this fabulous post whirling!

A Derbyshire Girl's Milan Diaries

As you know, my love affair with this vibrant city started back in 2007 when I first discovered the magic of Milan's bustling streets, charming cafes and, of course, the incredible ballet scene. I fell head over heels, and ever since, my Tuesday trips here from my lovely Derbyshire home have become a weekly highlight. It's so wonderful to experience this city's unique energy, the warm sunshine (well, mostly), and the incredible fashion buzz. Who wouldn't be smitten with the streets of Milan?!

I always start the week in my lovely Derbyshire village. You know me, always up early, catching the first train out of the station, fuelled by a strong cuppa and the promise of another adventure in Italy!

This week, the train was packed. It was exciting to share the journey with families heading for the festive markets, businessmen on the way to meetings and a couple of young lads dressed in pink, obviously fellow Pink Tutu fans! They were wearing the lightest shade of pink. It was definitely très chic, my dear readers. Maybe I need a little more pink in my wardrobe…

Arriving in Milan

This week's Milan adventure was particularly special. I started my journey with a delicious breakfast of coffee and brioche (the croissants here are to die for!) at my favourite cafe on Via Durini. This little spot is always bustling, a delightful mix of locals catching up and stylish tourists like me soaking up the vibrant atmosphere. And then, the big one! My favourite bit of any Milan adventure! Shopping, of course!

Shopping, Shopping, Shopping

Milan is like a giant fashion playground, filled with endless inspiration for a tutu-loving girl like myself! Today's shopping list was long. First up, a visit to my beloved 'Pink Perfection' store, which is my go-to for anything pink and fluffy. They have a dazzling range of tutu-tastic clothes, accessories and everything in between. Think sparkles, ruffles and a kaleidoscope of pink, darling! It's pure heaven!

After filling my shopping bags with gorgeous finds, I couldn't resist a little window-shopping adventure along Via Montenapoleone, home to some of the world's most prestigious fashion houses. Ooh la la, the colours, the cuts, the designs! I was completely captivated, just soaking up the sheer opulence.

A Touch of Italian Flair

Now, I'm all for a dose of glamorous style, but I'm equally captivated by the charm of Milan's local artisans and small boutiques. Today's stop: a cute little shop nestled down a hidden street. It had vintage handbags, old scarves, and a little bit of local design.

I spotted the most stunning bright red vintage scarf - it was simply divine! Perfect for adding a pop of colour to my next pink tutu outfit. You know me, always looking to add that little something special, and the owner, a charming Italian gentleman named Giovanni, helped me find a matching red hat. I couldn't leave the shop without buying both! He also helped me find a vintage book about the ballet and showed me his favorite Italian films. I told him how much I enjoyed Milan and he was delighted to show me around.

Giovanni's kindness reminded me of the warm hospitality that I love so much about Milan. It's not just about the fashion or the food, it's also about the people!

Dinner with the Dancers

Later, I met up with a lovely group of fellow ballerinas for a delicious dinner. It's so fun catching up with my dancing friends from all around the world. I shared my shopping finds (I did make Giovanni buy us all a glass of prosecco!) and, of course, they all loved my new vintage scarf. We chatted about the upcoming performance at La Scala (oh, you simply have to see the ballet there!), and planned our next ballet class together.

And of course, the Ballet

Today, my beloved Milan Ballet company was performing "Swan Lake", and let me tell you, it was absolutely magical. The costumes, the music, the story… everything was absolutely breathtaking. I love the way that ballet tells stories with such incredible artistry and movement. The graceful elegance, the power, the emotional depth – it's an experience that never fails to transport me!

The swan queen was beautiful, with her elegant costume, graceful movements, and she was so dramatic! She made my favourite scene, the famous white swan dance, really dramatic. And the prince – oh my goodness, so dashing, I almost fell in love!

The performance left me breathless, truly inspired and wanting to twirl through the streets of Milan with joy! And, I couldn’t resist, of course, wearing my new vintage red scarf with my bright pink tutu, and I even threw on my new hat. My friends told me it made a dazzling statement!

Tram rides, Twirls and Time to Fly Home

As I'm writing this blog, I’m watching the twilight hues cast a warm glow over Milan's streets, I can see the Duomo glistening in the fading light, and hear the friendly chatter coming from a little cafe downstairs. This city is just so alive!

Tomorrow, it’s time to take the tram back to the train station. It will be full of busy tourists with tired feet, families going home to warm hearths and hot dinners, and a few ballet enthusiasts headed to shows, just like me!

I can't wait for the adventures next week will bring! See you soon, my darling Pink Tutu followers!

Always twirling and embracing life in pink,

Emma

P.S. I’ll leave you with a little bonus - here are the shows in Milan that I’m looking forward to seeing in the next couple of weeks:

  • Teatro alla Scala: The Nutcracker. - * I can’t wait to see my favorite ballet classic at this prestigious theater!*
  • Teatro Dal Verme: La Traviata. – * A spectacular opera, right on the Milan tram lines, of course!*

If you’re looking for an unforgettable ballet adventure, head to Milan! This city has something for every ballerina – from elegant performance venues to charming shops that sparkle with the love of dance and tutus galore. Remember to pack your best tutu for your travels!
