Pink Tutu Milan: Wednesday 2009-02-11 - Post Number 714

Ciao Bella!

Welcome to another exciting edition of Pink Tutu Milan, your weekly dose of pink-tastic fashion, fabulous ballet, and all things beautiful from the heart of Italy. It's Wednesday, 11th February 2009, and I'm feeling so wonderfully energised! You know how much I adore exploring Milan, and today's adventure was just delightful. It feels a little strange to say that Milan's trams are starting to feel like home, but they really are - especially when they’re filled with charming Italians going about their day. And me, of course, twirling merrily in my signature pink tutu, which never fails to draw a smile from passers-by.

This week's itinerary was all about exploring the hidden gems of Milan and, of course, indulging in a bit of ballet and fashion. Oh, and who could resist a touch of Italian gelato? It's the perfect antidote to a long day of sightseeing and shopping, don't you think?

The Charm of Milanese Charm

My day began with a beautiful tram journey through the vibrant streets of Milan. The air buzzed with energy, and the charming mix of ancient architecture and modern life is truly captivating. It was hard not to smile, even as I navigated the hustle and bustle of this bustling city! You know, one of my favourite things about Milan is how easily I can switch between feeling completely lost in the midst of a bustling piazza, then moments later find myself in the most enchanting little back street filled with secrets just waiting to be uncovered. This week's exploration was no different!

My first stop was a tiny hidden café nestled in a narrow side street off Corso Buenos Aires. You might call it a café, but to me, it's pure Italian magic! Just picture it: white linen tablecloths, sunlight streaming through stained glass windows, the smell of freshly brewed espresso wafting through the air, and an old-fashioned espresso machine that could tell tales of its own. This was my haven, my little sanctuary from the world outside, where I could sip my cappuccino, scribble ideas for the blog, and simply breathe.

Milan's Artistic Soul: A Touch of Theatrical Magic

You know how much I love theatre, and today, I had a truly memorable encounter with the enchanting world of Italian opera! It all began with a visit to Teatro alla Scala, which felt almost surreal after the morning’s tranquillity. It’s a monument to elegance and sophistication, standing grandly in the heart of Milan, and a testament to the city's artistic heritage. Even just standing before it is enough to give you goosebumps, and for me, that feeling always makes me think: What will the next adventure bring?

Today, my journey continued into the Teatro alla Scala's heart. Not the theatre itself, but a little jewel-box-like coffee shop tucked just off its imposing entrance. A haven for both lovers of opera and fans of good Italian coffee and pastries. The best part of my little stop? A chance to people-watch and absorb the incredible energy emanating from the very theatre itself. My daydream, perhaps, was that my time in the coffee shop could inspire a ballet inspired by Verdi, or perhaps, by Wagner? Perhaps even, by that most Milanese of composers, Puccini himself?

I spent the afternoon delving into the world of Milanese fashion, a passion of mine that you all know well. Corso Buenos Aires, always a feast for the eyes. What makes it special? You just never know what sartorial surprises await! This week, it was all about chic accessories, particularly delicate brooches that can transform even the simplest dress or top. The hunt is on, my lovely ladies, for the perfect pink brooch to crown my tutu-filled wardrobe! Milan’s stylish charm just makes the search for the perfect accessory all the more exciting!

Ballet Ballet Ballet:

As if that wasn't enough, I managed to squeeze in a beautiful ballet class at one of Milan's finest studios. Just you wait, the Pink Tutu Milan crew - there will be photos of my outfit (and my dance steps!) from that one soon, you’ll all have a giggle at my graceful leaps (well, leaps I call graceful). This little corner of Milan, where the magic of dance unfolds, always makes me feel at home.

This time, the class focused on expressive movements, which really tested my creativity! The beauty of ballet is that even though the steps can be precise and disciplined, there's always room for personal interpretation. And let me tell you, being a little "outside the box" never looked so good - you all know I’m not one to dance “just like everyone else"! The dance studio is filled with people from all walks of life. Young, old, dancers, dancers-to-be, and a few ladies like me just wanting to make a memory and keep their bodies strong and supple (and who loves the beautiful tutu and ballet slipper outfits). But it’s more than the class itself that is captivating, it is the energy of being in this studio that keeps me coming back week after week. It’s just pure magic - just like the magical city of Milan.

More Than A City: A Sense of Magic

After a day that seemed to be fuelled by sunshine and happiness, I made my way back home, a feeling of contentment radiating through me. One of the best parts of exploring Milan? The chance encounters and the people you meet along the way. They are friendly and welcoming - the magic of Milan shines in the kind eyes of people I pass on the tram or the streets - or in that kind coffee shop. The city holds so many fascinating secrets just waiting to be uncovered. That’s what keeps me coming back to Milan, each week, a new adventure, a new opportunity. That feeling is worth more than anything else.

The Pink Tutu is a magical little garment and, so is this wonderful, romantic city. Perhaps they have magic in common because both of them just fill me with endless joy. So until next week, keep dancing, keep smiling, and remember, if you can dream it, you can do it!

And always, always, embrace the pink!

Until next week…ciao bella!
