Pink Tutu Milan: Post #737 - Wednesday, 2009-07-22: La dolce vita... in pink, of course!

Ciao bellas! It's Emma here, reporting live from the fabulous fashion capital of the world – Milan! This week has been a whirlwind of tutus, trains, and tiramisu, and I'm already missing it so much, it's practically painful!

It all started back in my little Derbyshire home, where I was performing in a fundraiser for the local ballet school. Now, you all know my motto: every performance, however big or small, is an opportunity to spread the joy of pink tutus! So, of course, I waltzed onto the stage in a magnificent creation – think soft pink silk, layered tulle, and enough sparkle to rival a disco ball! The audience loved it, the donations poured in, and guess who's off to Milan on a tutu-tastic adventure? Yep, me!

Travelling in style is always a priority, and my trusty pink suitcase (yes, even my luggage matches my tutus) was packed to the brim with enough pink goodness to last a week. I swear, you'd think I was carrying a whole boutique! The train journey to Milan was a blast – I love watching the world go by from the window. I'm convinced everyone would have a better day if they embraced a bit more "tram travel."

Arriving in Milan, the air buzzed with excitement – this is a city where style is practically in the air. It's like the whole world knows, even without saying it, that every day is a fashion show. My hotel, a delightful boutique with pink roses adorning every window, was a perfect base camp for my exploration. I threw on my most flamboyant pink scarf and set out to explore!

The highlight of the day was definitely the Teatro alla Scala. This grand theatre, known for its rich history and stunning performances, has long been a dream of mine. The building itself is an architectural masterpiece. I spent ages just admiring the intricate details – ornate sculptures, intricate gold detailing, and walls that shimmered with stories from centuries past. Even if you don't go inside to see a show, a quick stroll around the outside is definitely a must. It's all a bit more grand and extravagant than a Derbyshire village hall, but trust me, my Derbyshire roots still keep me grounded!

For those of you who haven't seen it, Teatro alla Scala boasts the most amazing "shoe library" – a vast collection of incredible shoes, some worn by legendary ballerinas. Honestly, the level of craftsmanship and intricate design in those shoes is unbelievable. If you ever find yourself in Milan, the museum is a MUST-VISIT.

Afterwards, my trusty pink tutu (yes, you heard me right – it came with me!) joined me for an exciting performance. You all know I'm obsessed with Ballet Street Theatre shows. Imagine contemporary ballet, mixed with cutting edge visuals, set against a backdrop of modern-day Milan! I’ve fallen completely head-over-heels for the company and can't wait to share it all with you!

There's a new show every single week! You're basically guaranteed to experience something truly magical, from the choreography to the amazing set designs. And did I mention the stunning costumes? Seriously, every outfit is a work of art – I just want to own them all!

Shopping in Milan was definitely on the agenda. And while it's easy to get swept up in the designer label frenzy, it's important to remember that Milan is a city full of quirky and independent boutiques! I’m not one for those "it" handbags, give me a quirky vintage hat or some funky neon socks any day!

The search for the perfect vintage hat led me on a quest through a labyrinth of side streets in a bustling Milanese neighbourhood. There, tucked away between cafes and restaurants, I stumbled upon a shop filled with forgotten treasures. I was a girl in a candy store! My senses were overloaded – from dusty velvet coats to shimmering vintage handbags, and everything in between, I just couldn’t believe the incredible fashion I discovered!

To top off my day, nothing beats enjoying the delicious flavours of Italy. I treated myself to the most divine Italian pasta and tiramisu – a total Italian indulgence. The pasta, perfectly al dente, was covered in a rich and creamy sauce, and the tiramisu – oh, that tiramisu – melted in my mouth like a dream. Let's be honest, after a day of tutus and travelling, it was the perfect end to a perfect day!

As the day comes to a close, I'm settling in to my hotel room, thinking about all the amazing sights and sounds I've experienced. Milan truly has a magic all of its own! And, you guessed it, my pink tutu is right by my side, proudly reflecting the city lights!

See you next week, my lovely tutu enthusiasts!

Until then, Emma xoxo
