Pink Tutu Milan: Post #756 – December 2nd, 2009

Ciao bella!

Welcome back to my little corner of the internet, my darlings. The week just flew by, but here I am again, back in Milan with my pink tutu twirling and ready to tell you all about it.

This week's adventures were jam-packed with the usual Milanese magic: theatre, trams, delicious food, stunning architecture and of course, shopping! Oh, and a couple of sneaky peek-a-boos into the world of Italian ballet too – wouldn't miss it for the world.

I know you're all just dying to hear about the Teatro alla Scala, and let me tell you, it was an absolute dream come true. It wasn't just the iconic building itself, although, standing there under those arches, gazing up at its glorious facade, was truly awe-inspiring.

But oh my, the performance itself! The magic of live music and dancers flowing across the stage, all of them bringing their own unique style to a classic ballet – it truly made me feel like I was back in my Derbyshire childhood, attending my first pantomime.

Remember those days when all the wonder of the world seemed to be contained within those brightly-lit stages, where magic was just waiting to happen? I believe that feeling still exists, and that feeling was alive and well in Teatro alla Scala that evening.

Speaking of feeling transported back to my childhood, let's chat about trams! Remember how trams were a gateway to endless possibilities? You'd hop on, excited about the adventure waiting around the corner, not knowing exactly what would happen next – the perfect blend of planned fun and surprise! Milan is a true haven for tram travellers. They glide effortlessly through the city, taking you on a whirlwind tour past stunning buildings and buzzing marketplaces. And just like my childhood journeys, they're full of surprise encounters. This week, I found myself on the same tram as a dapper gentleman in a perfectly-tailored pink suit. Talk about synchronicity, right? And he wasn't just any pink suit – the colour was the exact same shade as my beloved tutus. Honestly, the entire tram had a very 'Pink Tutu Milan' vibe. It was like everyone was celebrating a collective love for all things pink and chic.

As I'm sure you know, Milan is the ultimate destination for any fashionista – the heartbeat of the Italian fashion scene. So, I just had to go on a little shopping spree, right? Now, when you picture a Milanese shopping experience, do you picture grand catwalks, paparazzi snapping pictures, and a scene straight out of "Devil Wears Prada"? Well, don't worry, it's not all that dramatic – at least not where I go! Sure, the stores here are dazzling – think endless displays of beautifully-crafted clothing and shoes. But I love getting lost in the hidden alleyways too. There, amidst the vibrant hustle and bustle, you discover the true heart of Milan’s fashion scene. There, I found a beautiful vintage broach – imagine a pearl-encrusted bee, poised on a bed of delicate roses, perfectly encapsulating the elegance and whimsy of Milan's spirit. And to top it off, guess what colour it was? Yup, you guessed it: pink! (And oh-so-subtle!)

Now, before I let you all go and leave you with your own daydreams of Italian adventure, let’s take a moment to reflect on this very special day: December 2nd, 2009.

This date holds a particularly magical resonance for me. Why? Well, this was the day the “Pink Tutu Revolution” started – well, at least for me! Back in 2009, this little blog, this online journal of a Derbyshire girl’s dream of bringing the world together under a banner of pink tulle, went live.

From then on, this became the online home of my travelogue, of all the inspiring ballets I see and stories I collect, of all the fashionable finds that light my inner light.

Looking back on my travels these past 5 years – you wouldn't believe the things I've learned and the places I've been. And just like every step of this pink-hued journey, this weekly update – every Monday with a new post, is a ritual, a dedication to this little slice of magic we call life!

I'm beyond grateful to have each one of you, dear readers, as part of this. Your encouragement fuels my passion, your shared joy adds even more brightness to the Pink Tutu flame. Let's keep shining! And as always, I can’t wait to share more Milan magic with you next week!

Ci vediamo presto! (See you soon!)

Until then, don’t forget to wear your tutu! (If you feel like it! It's okay to choose!)
