Pink Tutu Milan: Week of August 4th, 2010 (Post #791)

Ciao, darlings!

The sun is shining in Milan, and it’s definitely got that gorgeous summer shimmer about it. You know the kind – that slightly hazy, slightly golden glow that makes everything look a little bit brighter.

It's Wednesday, and that means another pink tutu filled adventure from your favourite ballet blogger, Emma. This week, we're deep in the heart of Italy's fashion capital, Milan. But fear not, dear readers, I haven't forgotten my love for tutus! They're packed safely away, ready to be unleashed on the cobblestone streets at any moment.

Now, you know I love to explore by train, and this week's been no different. The tram journey into the city centre has been pure sensory overload. Imagine: vintage trams chugging along with the soft chime of their bells, Italian chatter buzzing around you, the sun glistening off the terracotta rooftops... It's enough to make you swoon!

Speaking of swooning, did I tell you I snagged some beautiful ballet shoes yesterday? Now, I'm not talking about the practical pointe shoes we wear in class, but some exquisite real ballet slippers with delicate ribbons. It's like Cinderella stepping out in style, except I'm opting for a pretty shade of pink, of course!

Oh, and speaking of shoes, did I mention that Milan is absolutely bursting with designer shops? From Prada and Gucci to Valentino and Ferragamo, you're spoilt for choice. Every street corner seems to hold a new temptation. But my motto is simple, darling: never sacrifice style for comfort. A good pair of walking shoes are a must for any fashionista exploring the city.

Let me tell you about a place I found just this morning. This delightful boutique called "Le Papillon," (translation: the butterfly!), is brimming with the most whimsical, stylish clothing. Their dresses, in particular, are works of art – flowing silks, intricate lace, and shades of pink that could make even a duchess blush!

Of course, I couldn’t resist a little window shopping…and, shall we just say a "minor" purchase? But trust me, darlings, it’s so worth it! A new frock for the Teatro alla Scala opera house, just for you. (You're welcome!)

Speaking of the Teatro alla Scala, it’s a truly magnificent building – all marble, gilded ceilings, and velvet curtains. And you just know a building this gorgeous is going to be home to some breathtaking performances. This evening, the ballet company is performing The Sleeping Beauty. I'm utterly thrilled. There’s something about ballet at the Teatro alla Scala that makes it magical, like you’re transported back in time to the days of princes, princesses, and grand waltzes.

There are just too many things I love about Milan, it's honestly hard to pick favourites! But the charm of this city just takes my breath away. There's so much beauty to be found here: the stunning architecture, the delectable food (that delicious gelato, oh my!), the art galleries, the cobbled streets, the charming cafes… Oh, and did I mention the shopping?

But truly, what truly defines this city are its people. The Milanese are such warm and friendly souls, always ready to share a smile or offer a helpful word, even if you don't speak a word of Italian!

There’s nothing I love more than immersing myself in a new culture and experiencing it first-hand, through the sights, the smells, the sounds, and even the tastes. Milan has exceeded all my expectations.

But enough about me, my dear readers. Tell me about your week. Have you had any fun adventures to share? What's the biggest thing on your pink-tutu wishlist this week?

P.S. Have I mentioned that there's a pink-tutu shop on a side street just off the Via della Spiga? It’s not a secret for much longer, but it’s worth mentioning now! I think we need more pink tutus in the world…or maybe it's just me.

Bisous,

Emma xxx
