Pink Tutu Milan: Wednesday 2010-08-11 (Post #792)

Buongiorno, my darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-clad ballerina, Emma, writing to you from the fashion capital of the world – Milan, Italia! The sun is shining, the cobblestone streets are bustling with chic Milanese ladies (all in divine shoes, of course), and the air is filled with the intoxicating aroma of freshly brewed espresso.

This week, I'm diving headfirst into all things Milanese, soaking up the culture, the cuisine, and most importantly, the fashion! It's like stepping into a glossy magazine – a kaleidoscope of colour and style, and I, your humble blogger, am here to bring you all the juicy details.

A Trip by Tram

Today began with a jaunt through Milan on a charming tram. Now, don't imagine any boring, old London underground trains, no sir. These trams are sleek, shiny, and move through the city with a smooth, elegant grace, almost like they are dancing! I love the thrill of sitting by the window, watching the world whizz by in a flurry of colours and patterns. It's like a ballet itself, a performance of everyday life unfolding right before my eyes.

My destination today was Teatro alla Scala – the most iconic opera house in Italy! My heart was beating a little faster than usual as I approached this majestic building, its façade gleaming in the sunshine, a testament to architectural grandeur. It feels so dramatic, so historic, to be in this place where so much theatrical magic has happened over the years. It makes me wish I had some fabulous costume on, a huge, sweeping skirt, ready to take to the stage!

The Opera of My Dreams

But, alas, I was not there to perform today, but to admire the performance! It was a show I had been eagerly anticipating - Verdi's La Traviata. The theatre itself is breathtaking - intricate balconies, luxurious velvet seats, the orchestra pit hidden away under a dark, mysterious curtain, ready to erupt into a storm of musical drama.

As the lights dimmed and the overture began, the magic truly started. The voices! So beautiful, so powerful, soaring and cascading across the stage. I watched the story unfold - love, betrayal, sorrow - played out with incredible passion and talent by every single performer. It's no wonder that La Traviata is considered a masterpiece - it's utterly captivating, pulling you in with its raw emotions and timeless storytelling.

A Fashionable Treat

After the show, a quick stop at "Rinascente" was in order – Milan’s biggest department store. It's a glorious palace of shopping! From designer shoes to decadent chocolates, you name it, they have it. This trip wasn't just about browsing, it was a special treat - a surprise gift to myself. I spotted the most divine silk scarf, swirling with colours and patterns that were just screaming to be worn to the next performance I attend. It was meant to be, I swear! It's my little pink tutu momento from my first time in Milan.

A Quick Fashion Check

You can’t be in Milan without mentioning fashion! Today I took the opportunity to pick up a couple of stylish accessories - a pair of sleek, leather ballet flats, the perfect shoes for exploring the cobblestones without succumbing to foot fatigue, and a new headband – the ultimate accessory for holding back those pesky stray curls that escape from my chignon, all whilst adding a touch of feminine flair. I’ve already worn them around town today and have been stopped on the street multiple times by friendly Milanese women, asking me where I found them!

Pink Tutu Inspiration Everywhere

The beauty of Milan is that you can find inspiration everywhere - even outside the fashion houses and theatre stages. Every alleyway, every building, is a feast for the eyes. There's this charm, this unique sense of history, and this undeniable appreciation for the finer things, all intertwined to create a magical atmosphere that permeates everything.

Even today, I felt a pink tutu inspiration, even without a pink tutu in sight. Maybe it’s the playful colours of the Milanese houses, maybe it’s the light-hearted Italian energy that fills the streets - whatever it is, it makes me want to dance, twirl, and wear a fabulous pink tutu that would feel perfectly in place amongst this fashionable crowd!

Ballet by the River

You'll have to stay tuned for my adventures tomorrow - a ballet performance on the river bank under the starlit sky! Oh, the sheer romance! I cannot wait!

Remember to join me again next Monday at www.pink-tutu.com as I continue my journey through the glorious city of Milan. Until then, embrace the colour pink, don't be afraid to twirl, and never stop dreaming!

And remember, darlings, everyone can wear a pink tutu!

Ciao, bella!
