Pink Tutu Milan: #798 - Ciao Bella, Fashionistas!

Wednesday 2010-09-22

Buongiorno, my lovely darlings! It’s Emma here, writing to you live from the beautiful, bustling city of Milan, where the cobbled streets are a delight for the senses and the shops are full of all the latest trends! I know, I know, it sounds like a dream, but it's all real!

As I write this, I'm wearing a brand-new pink tutu – naturally – with a sleek black top and bright white ballet flats. This week, I decided to add a touch of Parisian flair by incorporating a chic beret into my ensemble. It really elevates the whole outfit, don't you think?

The trip to Milan came about after my performance at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival last month. It was a smashing success! My performance of 'The Swan Princess' garnered some beautiful reviews, and I even got a cheeky little interview on the local news – tutues and all! You know me, always embracing my pink tutu power!

Speaking of power, it's truly amazing what one can achieve when passion and dedication are coupled with a generous helping of sparkle! That’s how I managed to afford this whirlwind adventure. Every performance, every fundraising gala, every twinkle in the eye of a child who watches me pirouette – all of it has contributed to this dream!

And Milan is everything I dreamt of! It’s a playground for the senses!

Let's start with the food! Oh my, my lovely fashionistas, you haven't truly lived until you've tasted the authentic Italian flavours of Milan! This week I have been living it up in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, enjoying delicious gelatos, mouthwatering pizza, and heavenly pasta – all served with a smile and the warmth of Italian hospitality.

The culture of this city is simply intoxicating. From the historical Duomo to the magnificent Leonardo da Vinci murals in Santa Maria delle Grazie, it’s truly awe-inspiring. This city breaths history, art, and style! And don't even get me started on the Fashion Week buzz that’s permeating the air!

And then, of course, there’s the fashion. Ah, my dearest friends, the fashion is truly divine! Milan is truly the Mecca for all things fabulous, from high-end couture houses like Armani, Versace, and Gucci, to the unique, independent boutiques tucked away in quiet corners of the city. My heart sings every time I wander into one of these exquisite fashion havens. Every colour, every texture, every silhouette speaks to me. And how can I forget those breathtaking windows filled with the most coveted dresses? My goodness, it's enough to make you swoon!

This week, I found the most adorable pink ruffled blouse – perfect for pairing with my trusty pink tutu, and I stumbled across the most exquisite vintage clutch. I just knew it would be the perfect accessory for a special night out. It’s been a whirlwind of shopping, with every purchase adding to my ever-growing collection of delightful garments and accessories!

My absolute highlight of this week, however, has been witnessing a performance of "Giselle" at the Teatro alla Scala. I don’t think I've ever seen a more beautiful interpretation of the iconic ballet! The dancers' movements were so fluid and elegant, and the music was truly transporting. It was one of those rare experiences that simply leaves you breathless. It reminded me, once again, of the beauty, power, and elegance of ballet, and it ignited that inner flame of passion I feel whenever I don my tutu and take to the stage!

My Milan adventure is only just beginning.

Of course, my journey wouldn’t be complete without the joy of travel. This week I’ve been exploring the city via trams and trains. It's the perfect way to soak in the ambience and feel like a true local! I particularly enjoyed the ride from Duomo to Navigli, a bustling network of canals filled with restaurants, cafes, and colourful boats – simply charming!

What's in store for next week?

Next week I'm planning to visit the beautiful Brera district – home to art galleries, cobblestone streets, and quaint cafes. It’s said to be a haven for artistic inspiration. Who knows, it may inspire my next tutu-tastic creation! I also plan to take a ballet class at the famous Teatro alla Scala. I hear they have an absolutely fabulous program – fingers crossed I don't make a complete fool of myself!

So there you have it, my lovelies – my Milan adventure continues to amaze and inspire. As always, I'm excited to share all my discoveries and experiences with you.

Remember, every day is an opportunity to embrace your inner ballerina, so put on your pink tutu, let your confidence shine, and remember: anything is possible if you believe in yourself.

Ciao bella, and remember to stay tuned for next week’s Milan escapade! I'll be right back with another dose of pink tutu adventures from the heart of Italy.

See you then,

Emma x

Here are some highlights from my adventures this week, so you can see what I'm talking about!

#1: The Duomo

Duomo in Milan with a pink tutu wearing girl looking towards the front in front of the cathedral.

This incredible structure, the heart of Milan, is simply breathtaking. With its stunning marble facade and intricate details, it’s no wonder that it is considered one of the world’s most beautiful cathedrals. The views from the top are simply stunning! I'll be taking another look at this incredible sight next week, especially since you'll get the most gorgeous shots for the 'gram!

#2: Gelato Bliss

I think it goes without saying, you cannot leave Italy without sampling some of their famous gelato. I had a little try at least half a dozen times this week. This is where a girl can enjoy delicious treats with all that dancing – you can't let your body get too weak after all! What’s better, every flavor is beautifully bright, refreshing, and just melt in your mouth delicious!

#3: My new Ballet Shoes

Close-up of a new pair of ballerina shoes with some elegant touches.

Well, a ballet-obsessed girl can't leave the fabulous shoe shops of Milan without finding some treats for her feet, right? And there is no better place in the world to find them. These beauties will be part of my next performance, they feel like feathers on my feet! They have been helping my pirouettes all week and are very comfy! Just what a girl needs after a whole week in Milan.

#4: Shopping in Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II

Emma looking up in awe, taking a selfie at the beautiful shopping galleria with her tutu on.

Milan's famous shopping galleria is a must-see, full of high-end luxury shops. It was like a Parisian fairy-tale - but better! I think the tutu look made it even more magical! I just felt like a princess in a sparkling, beautiful glass cage, watching all the fabulous fashions go by, it was perfect!

#5: Finding My Vintage Treasure

Emma smiling proudly, holding up a beautiful vintage clutch bag, dressed in her usual pink tutu.

What’s a trip to Milan without a visit to its vintage treasures hidden away in independent shops? It feels like going back in time with these fabulous creations from eras past! This beauty is now in my possession. The price was unbeatable too – I’ll be using this in my next photoshoot!

#6: Giselle at Teatro alla Scala

The theatre at night. With a tutu wearing girl and some of the amazing artwork on the wall outside.

This breathtaking theatre simply took my breath away! The acoustics are exquisite, the setting opulent, and the talent of the dancers was simply magical! Seeing such iconic ballet live was one of those dreams I held very dear to my heart, and now that I have seen it, well, it has truly surpassed all of my expectations!

#7: The Brera District

A girl looking up at some historical building.

Brera is like stepping into an art-filled, historical postcard. Every street corner is filled with an enchanting charm, from the ancient courtyards to the picturesque canal paths.

Stay tuned, my dear fashionistas! I'll be back next week to tell you all about the inspiring discoveries in the Brera district, the fun and fright at the ballet class at Teatro alla Scala, and more. But remember: whatever your adventure, let your heart lead you, your style guide you, and never be afraid to embrace the power of pink and twirl your way to happiness!

Until next week,

Emma xx
