Ciao Bella!

Can you believe it? Christmas is officially over and we're hurtling headfirst into the New Year! I’m spending a few magical days in Milan, my absolute favourite city in the whole world! The energy here is just incredible, with a vibrant mix of culture, fashion and style, and oh my, the Christmas markets! The shops are decorated with twinkling fairy lights, the air is filled with the scent of roasted chestnuts and panettone, and every street corner seems to hold a tiny, charming Christmas stall overflowing with trinkets, toys and beautiful Italian handmade crafts. I practically went wild with excitement for the Christmas lights, just bursting to capture it all on my little pink camera.

Speaking of bursting with excitement, I’m here in Milan thanks to my upcoming performance with the Ballet du Monde. I’m playing a rather feisty, fun, mischievous (read: absolutely not fluffy!) sugar plum fairy! I’m getting to showcase my pinkest tutu, a dream come true, as I pirouette across the stage in the final act. (Imagine the sparkle… you know it’s a must!)

Getting to Milan

My journey here from Derby, my little hometown in England, was almost as exciting as arriving in Milan itself. This time I opted for a train to Paris and then hopped on a high-speed train across the beautiful French countryside - what a beautiful view! I had the most delicious croissant for breakfast, watching the world fly by from my window seat. When I reached Milan, it was time to jump on the city’s amazing tram network.

Honestly, I adore Milan's tram system. You’d think I was back on stage with a brand-new dance routine the way I navigate the trams like an absolute pro, dodging other passengers, navigating different stops and getting in and out with perfect grace (mostly… okay, maybe some trips aren't as elegant, especially when you’re carrying five huge shopping bags). My friend, Gina (we call her the Pink-tutu-Pinion!) once called my way of hopping on and off trams, "the Pink Tutu Ballet of Milan”. I mean, why be boring, right?

Exploring the Fashion Capitol

Speaking of shopping… let me just say: Milan, oh Milan, you really are the shopping heaven for any ballet fan! After all, every ballerina dreams of twirling into the season’s newest looks! And that is precisely what I did! I discovered some real fashion gems in a charming, slightly hidden boutique called 'Atelier De Rosa', where they had this gorgeous bright pink skirt. I knew it was made for me. It reminded me of the sweet little ballet costumes from my very first dance performances, back when I was little. It's practically impossible to leave Milan without at least a new accessory to add to your wardrobe. Maybe it’s a bright pink clutch for your evening performance or a silk scarf with swirling motifs in pink (what a surprise!). I've been spotted wearing mine everywhere this week!

Of course, I've had some absolutely lovely meals in between. Delicious fresh pasta dishes with a perfect touch of Italian sunshine and delicious Italian coffee, a perfect balance to my busy day. My tip for all you pink-tutu princesses out there: definitely don’t miss the gelato in the evening! Creamy and divine! There is always time for ice cream and for enjoying a good Italian dolce vita!

*The Ballet du Monde's "Nutcracker" *

Milan is the centre of the ballet universe this month, with some fabulous performances happening right now. Of course, I'm completely wrapped up in our own show with the Ballet du Monde. Today we have a special matinee performance of 'The Nutcracker', where we'll be performing to a large audience of excited children! The children’s excited gasps, awe, and shrieks of glee when they see our glittering costumes always fill my heart with joy. We also have some wonderful evening performances planned throughout the week, so be sure to check out our show schedule at www.BalletduMonde.com and book your tickets. Trust me, it will be a Christmas show to remember!

Oh, speaking of which, this is just a taste of all that happened in Milan. I’m already bursting to write you all about the weekend's shenanigans! Milan always manages to keep my inspiration brimming over. You might have already guessed, but this Italian city truly feels like my home away from home.

Keep those pink tutus twinkling!

*Until next week, Love Emma, *
