Pink Tutu Milan: Wednesday 2011-01-12 - Post 814

Ciao bella!

It’s Emma here, your Pink Tutu blogger, back from the most divine trip to Milan! My dear, it was simply breathtaking. This magical city just keeps getting prettier and prettier, every cobbled street, every frescoed building… oh my, it's like stepping out of a fairytale!

As you know, I love my little ballet adventures and funding my travels with my performances – it's the most wonderful way to combine my passions. Milan, well, it's a veritable haven for both ballet and fashion.

This week, I'm absolutely buzzing with the afterglow of a spectacular show at the Teatro alla Scala! Have you seen it, darlings? This beautiful theatre is, well, it's just magical! With its ornate gold details, crimson velvet, and stunning chandeliers, it's almost impossible to keep from getting lost in its elegance.

The show itself was just… exquisite. The choreography was breathtaking, and the dancers were simply sensational. The sheer artistry and talent on stage made me forget I was in the real world for a few precious hours! And those costumes, oh my! It felt like a dreamscape, with swathes of shimmering fabrics, exquisite detail, and bold colour. I even saw a gorgeous blush pink tutu with delicate flower detailing that was absolutely perfect – definitely inspiring some new design ideas for me.

After the show, my dear, I had the most delightful walk through the charming backstreets of the city. You know I'm a sucker for old architecture and picturesque streets, and Milan certainly delivered! I meandered through narrow lanes lined with pretty boutiques and artisan shops, a veritable treasure trove of designer treasures. Let’s just say that my suitcase might have become slightly heavier thanks to some exquisitely stylish additions to my wardrobe, some absolutely adorable and exquisitely chic shoes – darling, you'd have thought I'd been let loose in a high-end shoe shop.

But no time to chat shoes right now, it’s already time to indulge in another ballet passion, because today was dedicated to the art of movement and grace: I took a delightful ballet class! I love experiencing the world's different approaches to dance. Milan certainly did not disappoint!

This particular studio, tucked away in a bustling corner of the city, exuded charm. There was a feeling of artistic warmth and camaraderie as I stretched and prepared myself for the magic of the dance. The teacher was simply exquisite, a former ballerina with incredible precision and elegance, who had an effortless way of drawing out every bit of strength and fluidity from my limbs.

And of course, nothing beats a delicious Italian cappuccino and a quick trip to the local patisserie after an invigorating class, for a moment of delightful indulgence. It really was the perfect day for a pink tutu loving ballerina.

Speaking of delightful indulgences, let’s delve into the delights that Milan offers…

What Makes Milan the Ultimate City Break for a Ballet Lover and a Pink Tutu Addict like Me?

Here’s a little insight into how I fall more and more in love with Milan every time I visit, my dearest friends:

1. Theatre Delights:

As you know, my love for ballet spills over to every type of stage performance, so naturally, I’ve spent a good amount of time exploring the many theatres Milan has to offer. From the grandeur of Teatro alla Scala to the intimate charm of Teatro Dal Verme, Milan offers an intoxicating array of classical performances. But the highlight for me has to be La Scala's "Turandot", it’s a true spectacle – the beauty of the costumes, the powerful melodies, the story… my dearest, I just had to see it, even twice. I really felt like a little princess from another era.

2. Fashion Fables:

Milan, the global hub of fashion, is just as enthralling off the runway as it is on. I love browsing through the luxurious boutiques of Via Monte Napoleone and Via della Spiga, where some of the world's most iconic designers showcase their exquisite creations. A little pink tutu girl never can say no to a bit of vintage style shopping, you know? And while those glamorous fashion houses tempt with their designer dreams, I often find myself enchanted by the quaint boutiques on Milan’s less-traveled lanes. Each one holds treasures waiting to be discovered – and just sometimes, you can find the most extraordinary outfits for next to nothing. That’s where I find some of the best and most beautiful accessories for my performances - just like my most recent ballet outfit that had all the Parisian chic for less than the cost of a designer shoe.

3. City of Romance

For all the excitement of the fashion world, Milan's real heart beats with a gentle romantic pulse. From charming café terraces overlooking Piazzale Cadorna, to hidden alleyways bursting with flowers, to sunset strolls along the Navigli canals… this city is overflowing with love and beauty. The city is always dressed in an array of vibrant colours, reflecting the romance of the architecture, and reminding me of those perfectly imperfect flower-petal ballerina tutus.

4. Culinary Delights

My dearest, Milan doesn't just satisfy the appetite for fashion and beauty, it pampers your taste buds too! I absolutely adore the vibrant, authentic cuisine found in Milan's numerous restaurants and cafes. Of course, a visit wouldn't be complete without trying some authentic pasta - from risotto alla Milanese to the delightful Tortelli alla Milanese that I sampled at a hidden gem tucked away from the city's hustle. I simply adore the way each ingredient has its own place and sings with an individuality and personality you wouldn't find anywhere else. I often find that Italian cuisine and my love for pink tutus somehow match - both have such a light and delicate air, with pops of bright colours and details, and both somehow become instantly and easily beloved.

5. A Touch of Tram Romance

Did I mention that Milan is also home to some absolutely wonderful trams? They’re more than just transportation - they're little rolling galleries, often decorated with beautiful mural art! There’s always something exciting about taking a journey through Milan’s colourful cityscape on a bright yellow tram. A quick trip from the Duomo to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, a charming 19th-century shopping arcade, is always a delight – even when the streets are buzzing with excited crowds, the city’s beauty never fades.

Milan: Where Creativity Flourishes

This city, my dear, just has this indescribable spark. Whether it's the elegance of la Scala, the art that thrives in the narrow cobblestone streets, the fashion, the bustling cafes, or even the whimsically painted trams, there's a constant sense of creation and inspiration, making this the ultimate playground for any ballerina and any aspiring designer of delicate ballet tutus. I really believe it's where every artist's heart can flourish!

Now for the latest gossip about Milan, darlings:

For the rest of this week, the city's buzzing with ballet activities. La Scala has been hosting "Romeo and Juliet" this week, and the reviews are just glowing. Apparently, the cast is superb, with exquisite choreography that beautifully captures the passion of Shakespeare's story, as only dance can. And while I am still savouring the brilliance of “Turandot”, my little pink-tutu heart is already eager to see “Romeo and Juliet”, for its powerful tale of love and longing that speaks volumes to me.

I've also heard whispers of “The Sleeping Beauty” at the Teatro Regio and "Swan Lake" at the Teatro degli Arcimboldi. Now, "Swan Lake" – a classic, elegant tale of graceful swans - a real treat for a pink tutu enthusiast like myself. These shows showcase the captivating energy of live performance that, in my humble opinion, makes the human body's capacity for graceful movement all the more exquisite.

Milan's always full of theatrical performances, ballet, dance, music, opera – you name it, they have it all, which just adds to the sheer artistry and vibrancy that spills out into the streets and onto the pavements, right under my delicate pink tutu skirt! The spirit of creativity and expression just thrums beneath the cobblestones of the city.

My Pink Tutu Diary: Milan Diary

Just like my diary, my pink tutu helps me live every day to the fullest and with grace. With every journey I take, I add new entries to my diary, and each one is a little treasure.

Today’s diary entry - and perhaps the main reason for writing this blog - is this little thought: I really believe everyone deserves to have that pink tutu moment. You know, that feeling where you're totally captivated by something extraordinary, something that stirs up the imagination and reminds you of the joy and magic that life has to offer. Every trip to Milan does this for me. So why don't you come join me? What are you waiting for?

Next week, I'll be in beautiful Bologna, another captivating Italian city that’s sure to be filled with ballet wonders and fashion finds! Until then, wear a pink tutu and enjoy every precious moment!

Ciao, and happy dancing!
