Pink Tutu Milan: #820 - Ciao Bella! From Derbyshire to Dolce Vita

Wednesday 2011-02-23

Ciao, darlings! It's Emma from Derbyshire, England, reporting live from Milan, Italy! I'm finally here! The land of fashion, delicious food, and… pink tutus?! (Ok, maybe not that last one yet, but I'm working on it). 😉

This week, I'm sharing my #PinkTutuMilan adventure, a tale of twirling, shopping, and, of course, a splash of pink! It all started in my favourite pink tutu - the one with the delicate pearl trim - and ended with a fantastic view of the Duomo, the symbol of Milan, which was breathtaking, illuminated in the night. This trip has truly been a dream come true.

A Whirlwind Start in the City of Fashion

The moment I stepped off the train at Milano Centrale, a wave of excitement washed over me. It’s amazing how a place can have its own energy, its own heart that beats with life and creativity, and Milan is certainly bursting with that. I'm a huge fan of vintage clothing, and it's everywhere here! I just know I'm going to be spoilt for choice!

Before anything else, it had to be tram-tastic! I love the energy of tram travel. I squeezed into the crowded carriage and embraced the rhythm of the journey as it weaved through the city, with each click-clack of the wheels echoing my excitement. You can bet I had my trusty tutu on for the occasion!

Tutus and Trams - a Perfect Pair

First stop? My favourite vintage store on Corso Buenos Aires. This street is a shopaholic's haven! I’m so pleased I decided to visit. As I strolled through the crowded streets, I couldn’t help but admire the street style – oh, the chic handbags, sleek leather jackets, and the playful use of colour and pattern! It felt like a parade of fashion, and of course, I added a touch of Pink Tutu magic.

The shop was crammed with treasures: beautiful 1950s floral dresses, luxurious furs, and stunning antique hats, all begging to be found and worn! The shopkeeper is the kindest woman with an infectious smile, who's been in the business for years. We had a lovely chat about her most unique pieces, and how she finds her incredible collection, much to my excitement, with so many incredible and affordable options, and some lovely tutus too!

From Vintage to Teatro - a Pink Tutu Love Affair

After a little vintage indulgence, my day wouldn't be complete without a trip to the theatre. You can't visit Italy without immersing yourself in its rich artistic culture, and what better way to do so than at Teatro alla Scala? This iconic opera house has played host to countless legends, from Verdi to Puccini. The grandeur of the building was awe-inspiring, every intricate detail whispering tales of the past. I couldn't resist a spin in my tutu, its delicate pink layers fluttering against the velvet grandeur, like a dance of time itself.

A Breath of Fresh Air and a Pizza Treat

In need of some fresh air after a full day of exploring, I ventured into the Parco Sempione, a stunning urban oasis that provides a haven for relaxation and stunning scenery. After soaking in the beautiful scenery, it was time for a real Milanese experience – an evening pizza dinner! The aroma was intoxicating, and each bite transported me to a land of delicious flavours. I am such a fan of the simple yet elegant pizza crusts, and they go so well with any topping! I took my pizza on the go, wandering through the enchanting street markets, a blend of artisan goods and street performers creating a symphony of colours and sounds. This city is filled with life and creativity at every turn!

The Magic of the Duomo

No trip to Milan is complete without a visit to the Duomo, its majestic spires piercing the night sky like celestial arrows. Its illuminated beauty took my breath away, the pink and white marble glowing like a beacon in the darkness. I'll be honest, it almost felt like I was standing within the pages of a fairy tale book - the stunning architecture, the sparkling lights, and me in my pink tutu. You just had to be there to experience it, it was magical.

Dancing the Night Away at the "Crazy Horse"

Tonight was the perfect evening to let loose. I am such a fan of the legendary Moulin Rouge in Paris. And it has a glamorous and iconic sibling in the form of the "Crazy Horse" right here in Milan! I couldn't resist the opportunity to witness their sensational cabaret show. I slipped into my longest, fluffiest tutu, feeling like a princess stepping onto the red carpet. Their choreography is truly unique. A sensual and sophisticated performance art, featuring stunning costumes and a captivating cast.

Sharing a Little Pink Tutu Magic

As I prepare to embark on another day of exploring the wonders of Milan, I’m filled with inspiration and energy. I want to spread this Pink Tutu magic across every street corner of Milan, one tutu twirl at a time. Join me on this exciting adventure! What’s coming up for my trip

Friday 2011-02-25: The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II I plan to take a full day exploring the grandeur of The Galleria. An ornate shopping arcade beneath the glass-covered ceiling. I also hear the ground floor features a mosaic of a bull. You can stand on its testicles for good luck! This shopping arcade has beautiful boutiques and a traditional Italian café. The whole arcade is truly an architectural wonder, and I can't wait to see it. It'll be fun exploring the designer boutiques. They look like real treasure chests waiting to be explored.

Sunday 2011-02-27: * I hear there's a beautiful garden right near my hotel called *Giardini Pubblici Indro Montanelli A vast public garden with stunning scenery. I hope to have a picnic and read a book while admiring the flowers and fountains, it'll be the perfect way to rest before returning home!

*Until next week… *Ciao for now!

Stay sparkly, my darlings! Emma xx
