Pink Tutu Milan: Post 826 - A Ballerina's Delight in Milan!

Buongiorno, my lovely tutulettes!

The sun is shining on a beautiful Milan morning, and I'm already feeling so inspired! This week I've been soaking up all the city's chic charm and, of course, experiencing all things ballet! This is my 826th post on Pink-Tutu.com, and I'm so excited to share my Milan adventures with you!

From Derbyshire to Milan by Train

Remember my post last week about that amazing audition for Giselle at the Royal Opera House? Well, it wasn't meant to be! While it was truly an honour to be considered, sometimes the stars just don't align. But don't fret, tutulettes! My silver lining is that it freed up my schedule for an impromptu trip to Milan! I’m absolutely crazy about Italian architecture and culture – think soaring Duomo ceilings and divine cappuccinos - and Milan has always been a dream destination. And, of course, the fashion scene! I had to see it for myself.

Speaking of journeys, the train journey to Milan was simply breathtaking. The countryside scenery was idyllic, passing fields bathed in golden light with the scent of spring in the air. It was almost like something out of a ballet. As we got closer to Milan, I could sense the excitement rising within me, anticipation bubbling like a glass of sparkling Prosecco. It was time for Pink Tutu to sashay onto the streets of Milan!

Pink Perfection in Milan's Cathedrals

My first stop was the Duomo. This incredible structure has always captured my imagination. Standing in its shadow, I couldn't help but feel a deep sense of awe and inspiration. Its intricate spires reaching towards the sky, its ornate details reflecting the sunlight - truly, it's like a piece of artistry that seems to dance in the wind. I even caught myself trying to balance on my toes while gazing up at its grandeur. I couldn't resist, though, putting on my new pink ballet shoes and snapping a photo for you all. Pink tutus are just as striking against a stunning architectural backdrop, wouldn't you say?

Ballet and Boutique Shopping Spree

I'm thrilled to share that there's an incredibly charming little ballet studio tucked away just behind the Duomo. I had to take a class, obviously, to stretch out my dancing muscles after that train journey. They were kind enough to lend me a pink leotard for the class – a touch of Pink Tutu flair in Milan! The class itself was pure bliss, and the teacher even showed me some fantastic techniques that I plan on incorporating into my next solo performance. There is something quite wonderful about the international ballet community, we all speak the same language, the language of ballet. It’s an international family that spreads all around the globe!

Milan, as expected, is an absolute haven for fashion-lovers. The window displays are exquisite! I’m pretty sure I had a complete moment of sensory overload - sequins, silks, satins... so much delicious eye-candy! Every street felt like a fashion show. It goes without saying that my trip wouldn’t be complete without a little boutique hopping, right? After my ballet class, I strolled around the glamorous streets of Milan, stopping by one boutique after another, and naturally, had to add a few fabulous items to my ever-growing collection! (Which, of course, you’ll all be seeing in the coming weeks in my blog!). Let’s just say I was absolutely smitten with this fabulous white satin jumpsuit with a big, bold, fuchsia bow. Talk about an elegant ballet statement piece! I know I’ll be pairing it with a statement-making pink tutu for my upcoming recital in Derby!

Milan's Theatrical Treats

Of course, the highlight of my trip was the stunning performance at the Teatro alla Scala. It’s famous all over the world, so I had to add this gem to my ballet-obsessed agenda. It was even better than I imagined. This beautiful building, its architecture exquisite, is not just a venue but a historic landmark for opera and ballet. I had been anticipating seeing Swan Lake for months. Seeing Tchaikovsky’s iconic ballet performed in such a regal setting was a true dream come true. The costumes, the dancing, the dramatic music – everything was flawless! And, I couldn't resist taking a few selfies with some of the talented dancers – what a thrill!

A Culinary Treat and the Perfect End

My first stop in Milan after landing was the lovely Vecchia Malvasia, which had been recommended by a ballet colleague who's been living in Milan for the last couple of years. It was such a treat, a delightful mixture of old-world charm and exquisite food! They had such a tempting selection of traditional Italian dishes, and I have to admit, I may have indulged a bit. Their "Gnocchi al Gorgonzola" is to die for, absolutely perfect for a pink-loving tutu ballerina!

As my trip came to an end, I stood at the train station looking back at Milan. My time here was too short but already feels like a beautiful dream! From ballet classes to boutique browsing and those fabulous theatrical performances, my heart feels as though it is truly brimming with the magic of Milan. It was an extraordinary trip, filled with memories to cherish!
