Pink Tutu Milan - #846

Wednesday 2011-08-24

Ciao bellas! It's your favourite pink tutu-clad blogger, Emma, reporting live from the fashion capital of the world, Milan, Italia! The sun is shining, the gelato is calling, and I've just popped on my most fabulous pink tutu - the one with the sparkly butterflies - because, darling, life is just too short to wear dull clothes!

Today was a whirlwind of fabulousness, starting with a delicious cappuccino at my favourite little cafe near the Duomo. You wouldn't believe how much I adore this city! It's got all the grandeur of London but with that warm Italian spirit that just makes you feel like you could burst into song!

After my caffeine fix, I hit the shops! I know, I know, a shopaholic's dream, right? Milan is the mecca of fashion, and darling, this pink tutu was just itching to add some new delights to my wardrobe! I found a gorgeous coral blouse with a little ruffle detail and a pair of shimmering, turquoise heels that screamed "I'm going to be the belle of the ball, literally!" Oh, and don't even get me started on the bags! A buttery soft leather number with gold detailing and an adorable mini backpack in the prettiest blush pink – it's a yes from me!

But enough about my shopping spree! Let's talk ballet!

Tonight, my darling dears, I had the absolute pleasure of attending a performance at Teatro alla Scala. It was breathtaking! I'm not just saying that because I'm a ballerina at heart; this was a truly exceptional performance. The dancers were so incredibly graceful, and the choreography was innovative, modern, yet elegant. I almost felt like I was on stage myself, twirling and leaping with the ballerinas! And let's be honest, the exquisite costumes? Absolutely exquisite!

Afterwards, I grabbed some dinner at a traditional trattoria. The food was absolutely divine - fresh, delicious pasta, creamy risotto, and a heavenly tiramisu. All washed down with a bottle of sparkling Italian wine! I do love the dolce vita.

*It's amazing to be able to experience all of this thanks to my ballet career. *

Back in Derbyshire, England, where my story began, I’d spend hours in the studio, practicing my pirouettes and pliés, dreaming of one day dancing in Milan. Now, I'm living that dream! And it's so important to me to be able to share it with you all! You can find my travel blog on the Pink Tutu website (www.pink-tutu.com) each Monday. My latest videos are up there too – and they’re not just for professional dancers, but for everyone who loves ballet. It's about embracing your inner ballerina! And if I can encourage just one person to pick up a tutu and dance their heart out, then my journey has been worth it!

Speaking of tutus, let’s all pledge to wear pink on our travels. This Wednesday in Milan, it’s pink tutu galore! I saw so many tutus today. There was a family having their lunch, all sporting pink tutus – darling! One little boy had his pink tutu with matching shoes! Then I spotted a lady dressed in an elaborate, sparkling, magenta tutu. She just glided gracefully into a store! There were two students wearing pink tutus and matching skirts, chatting and looking fashionable as they explored Milan. My love for pink tutus knows no bounds, and seeing them on the streets of Milan just fuels my fire!

My tips for travelling in a pink tutu:

  • Keep it comfy: It might sound silly, but a comfy tutu is key. Look for a tutu with soft fabric and good support, so you can twirl with confidence!

  • Go with the flow: Not everyone might 'get' the tutu. That’s ok. Some people look and then admire you for embracing life to the full and for your beautiful spirit!

  • Accessorize wisely: A few key pieces, like a statement necklace, chic handbag, and a stylish pair of flats or heels can elevate your tutu look to a whole new level. Darling, we want a little glam!

  • Travel by Tram: The tram in Milan is so easy and fast – hop on, hop off and the journey is part of the adventure!

  • Don’t forget your camera: The whole point is to enjoy the world, but it's always nice to have memories, right?

You can see my new photos in the Pink Tutu Milan photo gallery, which is also updated each week on the Pink Tutu website.

As for me, my dear dears, I'm off to dream about dancing under the Milanese sky in my sparkling pink tutu. See you next week for my adventures in Milan!

Emma
