Ciao Bella, my darling tutus! 🩰✨
I'm writing to you from the bustling streets of Milan, Italy! It's a bit of a dream come true, actually. Remember when I used to twirl around in my little pink tutu dreaming of dancing on grand stages? Now, here I am, surrounded by cobblestones, vibrant street art, and the sweet scent of gelato. I love it! 🍦
But let's rewind a little…
This week's journey began with a train ride straight from the heart of Derbyshire to the majestic capital of London, where I gave a captivating performance at the Sadler's Wells Theatre. They even had an encore! Those glorious applause were like magic! It filled my heart with so much joy and fueled me with energy to continue on my pink tutu mission. 😉
Afterwards, it was a short hop on the Tube and a sprint through London's dazzling shopping districts, a girl's gotta make sure her ballet wardrobe is ready for Milan, right? You know how much I love my tutus! But this trip, it was more about finding those statement pieces, the ones that turn heads at the opera and command attention in a room full of stylish Italians! And of course, I've already got my eyes on some breathtaking silk scarves and a pair of Milanese-inspired designer heels - because you know a girl’s got to stay classy and fashionable in the fashion capital! 👠✨
And what is a ballet lover's adventure without a visit to the ballet school, the famous Scuola di Ballo del Teatro alla Scala? Imagine this… exquisite studios filled with dancers all ages practicing in their graceful forms, the sound of their shoes on the wood floor, a gentle murmur of Italian conversations… pure bliss. I simply had to join in. Let me tell you, those Italians know how to move! The teacher was strict, but you could see passion in their eyes and the fire in their movements… such a thrilling energy!
Later, I walked the streets of Milan and took in all the stunning sights. We even got to hop onto one of their iconic trams! I’m such a sucker for any kind of public transport, especially ones with history and character - like that bright red tram that looks straight out of a vintage movie! It took us through the cobbled streets to one of Milan’s charming open-air markets. Can you imagine? Gorgeous cheeses, ripe olives, colourful tomatoes, and local artisan bread… Everything looked and smelt delicious! And guess what? I actually discovered the cutest pink tutu hidden in one of the market stalls! Perfect for a little Milanese twirl, don't you think?
Of course, my mission in Milan would be incomplete without indulging in the delightful Italian gelato. It’s a real cultural immersion. I tried strawberry, pistachio, and the classic tiramisu flavour - and oh, my! The Italians truly know their ice cream. You wouldn't believe the creamy texture and the intense, yet perfectly balanced flavours! It’s a total taste bud explosion. 😋
But I must admit, all that sightseeing and dancing really made me crave a little dose of my favourite thing: fashion! So, I took a stroll through the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, that dazzling glass arcade full of Italian luxury fashion brands. Honestly, the place is breathtaking. You feel transported to another time with the elaborate decorations, intricate stained glass, and the glimmering shops! Of course, I just had to do a little window shopping - a peek into the world of fashion masterpieces - but my wallet screamed "no more!" Haha.
This week has been an exhilarating journey, full of inspiring ballet performances, beautiful shops, fascinating street markets, and charming encounters with the city's elegant culture. But don't you worry, my love for ballet continues to be my driving force, and I am already dreaming of my next performance and the journey that will lead me there.
Before I sign off, here's something to get you dancing: tonight is the opening night for the Teatro alla Scala Opera House. They’re presenting Verdi's "Rigoletto." The very thought makes me tingle with excitement! I'm absolutely ecstatic to witness the beautiful story unfold before me and bask in the majestic grandeur of the performance!
