Pink Tutu Milan - Post #910: Ballet and Shopping in the City of Fashion

Buongiorno, my lovelies! It's Emma, back from a whirlwind week in Milan, and I'm overflowing with stories and, of course, a million photos to share!

This week, I found myself transported to the heart of fashion, the glorious city of Milan! I know, I know, it seems like a ballerina’s dream come true - the land of elegant designers and, most importantly, pink tutus. (You know I couldn’t resist finding the most fabulous one for my stay! 😉) But it was even more magical than I ever imagined.

I arrived in Milan on a chilly Thursday, after a thrilling train journey from Derbyshire. My heart did a little pirouette as I caught sight of the stunning Duomo for the first time. My hotel was nestled in a charming, quiet side street, just a hop and a skip away from the action. I popped my suitcase down and set out for an afternoon of exploration, drawn like a moth to a lamp to the grand Via Montenapoleone. I knew it wouldn't take long for this street to have my credit card doing a little grand jeté!

Fashion Fever in the Heart of Milan

The street is a wonderland of exquisite shops, showcasing the finest names in Italian fashion. I could have easily spent the entire day window shopping, mesmerized by the incredible artistry on display. It's a constant inspiration! But let's be honest, who can resist a little indulgence now and again? I treated myself to a gorgeous pink cashmere scarf (with matching fluffy pompoms, of course!). It's the perfect accessory to keep me warm during the crisp autumn evenings.

I’m a firm believer in the transformative power of fashion - a fab new frock or an eye-catching accessory can make you feel like a million pounds. And in Milan, it's impossible not to be inspired by the vibrant street style. Imagine my delight when I spotted a young woman sporting a shimmering, silver, floor-length gown, accessorised with a fabulous statement pink hat. I simply had to strike up a conversation and, guess what? She told me she’d designed the gown herself! So much talent bubbling under the surface, Milan really is a hotbed of creativity.

My exploration of Milan led me through the cobblestone streets of Brera, the historic heart of the city. I meandered through art galleries, taking in the magnificent artwork, and admired the architectural beauty of the Renaissance palaces. This part of the city really does transport you back in time, but with a modern twist. And, of course, it was impossible not to pause at the elegant shops overflowing with hand-made Italian leather goods, designer ceramics and vintage finds.

I couldn't resist snagging a pair of the cutest pink ballet shoes I ever laid eyes on! They were tucked away in a little shop just off the main square - it felt like a real vintage find. They'll definitely be joining my collection and adding a little Parisian charm to my Derbyshire wardrobe.

The Magic of La Scala

As the day drew to a close, I found myself walking towards the iconic Teatro alla Scala, or as most people know it, La Scala. Just the name itself fills my soul with joy! Milan is a city steeped in opera history, and it was a privilege to see La Scala up close. Even though the theatre wasn’t open to the public this day, I felt the magic of the place – so much history oozed out of those magnificent stone walls. I stood for a while imagining all the world-class performances that must have happened there - oh, to be part of that history, standing on that grand stage myself! I’m just a humble ballerina, but in my wildest dreams, I see myself dancing in La Scala. Maybe one day…

But it wouldn’t be Milan without a ballet performance! I spent a delightful afternoon soaking up the atmosphere in a smaller, charming local theatre. The programme featured a talented ensemble of young dancers and I must say, I was blown away by their skill. Even in a small theatre, their passion and commitment radiated. There was even a young girl in a pink tutu - so sweet! I just had to chat to her after the show. It seems she was as much in awe of me as I was of her talent. We had a lovely time chatting about our love for dance, and we even shared a little pirouette together. Sometimes the smallest gestures of kindness can make the biggest difference.

The city pulsed with life even after dark, its cobbled streets lined with cosy trattorias. I decided to indulge in the delights of a local Italian meal and a bottle of local Chianti, enjoying the delicious Italian delicacies with a smile. Of course, I kept my pink tutu pristine for this special occasion.

Tutu's, Trains, and a Dash of Parisian Chic

My week in Milan was filled with breathtaking art, stylish shopping adventures and a touch of the ballet. But, before I knew it, it was time to head back to Derbyshire, leaving my heart a little bit behind in this incredible city. And yes, you guessed it – I was travelling by train again!

I’m a firm believer that train travel is just as much part of the adventure as the destination. The scenery rushing past the windows inspires my creativity, and there’s just something special about the rhythmic clickety-clack of the wheels on the track. I boarded my train at the beautiful Milano Centrale, filled with excitement for my journey home, and memories that will last a lifetime. It was on this train journey back to Derbyshire that I finally completed my pink tutu outfit with a new sparkly hat I found in a little vintage shop near the Duomo. My travels definitely influenced my outfit choice.

Milan, with its rich history and vibrant culture, is truly a place that makes you feel like a fairytale princess, particularly if you happen to be wearing a fabulous pink tutu, of course!

That's all for this week, my lovelies. If you’re planning a trip to Italy, Milan must be on your list. Just make sure to pack your pink tutu, a pair of dancing shoes and a smile! Catch you next week, same time, same place!

With all my love,

Emma x
