Pink Tutu Milan #937: A Whirlwind Wednesday in the City of Fashion! 🩰🇮🇹
Buongiorno, darlings! Emma here, your favourite pink-tutu-clad ballerina, back from a whirlwind Wednesday in Milan. Let me tell you, this city is buzzing with excitement - especially when it comes to fashion! I felt like I’d stepped straight out of a Vogue photoshoot, with every street corner bursting with chic boutiques and impeccably dressed people. Oh, how I wish my wardrobe could just magically teleport all the incredible designs from Milan straight to Derbyshire!
As usual, I reached Milan via train – a lovely journey through the picturesque countryside, with sunshine streaming through the window and a gentle rocking motion that was almost as calming as a good plié. The train station was buzzing with energy, but I had no trouble navigating the bustling crowd – all part of the ballet dancer’s finely-honed spatial awareness, my darlings! I arrived in Milan feeling energized, ready to embrace all this glamorous city had to offer.
My Wednesday was an absolute whirlwind of activity. It began with a morning ballet class at the fabulous Studio Danza Academy, tucked away on a quiet side street, just off the busy Via Montenapoleone. This studio had a lovely old-world charm about it – think exposed brick walls and large, light-filled windows. There’s something truly magical about taking class in a space that has nurtured the artistry of so many ballerinas before you. Plus, their parquet floor was the most perfectly springy, and just the right amount of rough, so your toes don't slip! (Let's be honest, a slip during a relevé is nobody’s friend!)
Afterwards, I treated myself to a cappuccino and a delicious slice of panettone at a little café nearby. You really can't go wrong with an authentic Italian cappuccino! It was the perfect energy boost to fuel the rest of my day.
As much as I love dancing, I also have a confession… shopping is another great love of mine. Milan is a haven for fashion lovers, and this Wednesday was no exception. I started my shopping spree at a delightful vintage shop in the Navigli district. The shop itself was a treasure trove of beautiful fabrics and vintage designs - so much inspiration for my next pink tutu creation! You never know what vintage treasures you might stumble upon!
Then it was on to a visit to a local artisan who makes beautiful leather goods. Their designs were unique and elegant – something a bit special to make my pink tutu outfits really stand out! They had a fabulous red leather purse that was perfect for carrying all my essentials: my ballet shoes, water bottle, and of course, my pink tutu!
Speaking of pink tutus, I can’t tell you how delighted I was to see a small group of dancers, clad in the most delightful shades of pink, heading to a nearby rehearsal studio. Talk about bringing the pink tutu love to the city! There’s nothing more exciting than seeing a little bit of pink tutu magic happening on the streets of Milan!
After a well-earned lunch (a delicious spaghetti al ragu, naturally), I was back on the move, ready for a performance at Teatro Dal Verme. Now, this is no ordinary theatre! The moment I stepped into that grand hall, with its glittering chandeliers and ornate balconies, I felt like I was stepping back in time. This is the sort of place that takes your breath away!
The show was “Giselle,” a true classic, with exquisite costumes and incredible dancers. As the tragic love story unfolded, my heart felt every pang of emotions, even when I wasn't quite sure what was being said - luckily, the dance told the story so beautifully!
Later that evening, I had a delightful picnic in the shadow of the Duomo – that iconic cathedral. Milan's night-time glow is absolutely breathtaking. A little secret tip for any visitors – the lighting accentuates all the details of the Duomo’s intricate facade in such a spectacular way. It's like stepping into a fairytale. And, as the last light of day faded away, I indulged in a little street-side performance, spreading the pink tutu love to all the locals passing by! Everyone loves a bit of ballet, and who wouldn't be captivated by a swirling tutu under the moonlight!
So, there you have it - my whirlwind Wednesday in Milan! I am positively smitten with this vibrant city, with its rich cultural history and its contagious passion for the arts. From the breathtaking ballet performances to the incredible shopping opportunities and even a little bit of pink tutu magic – what more could a ballerina ask for?
But the journey isn’t over!
Join me again next Monday, my darlings, for a special update from the vibrant streets of Milan! Until then, stay stylish, and most importantly, wear pink!
Lots of love, Emma xx
