Pink Tutu Milan - #940 - 12th June 2013

Ciao Bella!

From the rolling hills of Derbyshire to the chic streets of Milan, my pink tutu has travelled far! This week, I'm loving the vibrant energy of this city, with its buzzing fashion scene and the thrill of being amidst the legendary world of Italian opera and ballet. This is my favourite time of year to be in Milan - the weather is warm, the light is long, and the streets are filled with style and colour.

My journey began with a trip on the charming Milan metro - a fantastic experience that left me awestruck by the elegance of the vintage carriages and the sleek, modern architecture of the stations. I even snagged a window seat to soak in the panoramic city views as I travelled to the Teatro alla Scala for my very first Italian opera experience!

Opera at La Scala

The Teatro alla Scala is one of the most renowned opera houses in the world, and I'd been dreaming of seeing a performance here for years. It's no surprise it's been a cherished destination for ballet and opera lovers for centuries. Just stepping inside the magnificent lobby was a treat - everything felt steeped in history and filled with a tangible energy of pure artistry.

Tonight's opera was Verdi's "Aida" – a masterpiece of drama, passion and soaring melodies. The costumes were truly magnificent and the music was simply divine. It was so exciting to witness the entire performance from a grand box in the theatre's opulent, historical setting. I could easily imagine famous singers of the past, draped in elegant attire, taking in the very same sights! It's safe to say my "Aida" experience truly surpassed my wildest expectations.

Fashionable Fridays in Milan

Friday always promises to be a day for fabulous shopping, and Milan, the world capital of fashion, didn't disappoint! The moment I stepped onto the elegant streets I felt swept into a whirlwind of colours, textures and beautiful fabrics. It's just impossible to not be inspired here.

This time I visited a truly unique shop on Via Monte Napoleone: an artisan boutique filled with the most exquisite Italian handmade leather goods, a blend of practicality and chic. I was particularly drawn to a vintage leather tote bag, adorned with the most beautiful, delicate floral embroidery - simply perfect to showcase my passion for Italian craft and a great souvenir from my travels.

The City of Love - With a Touch of Pink

Walking around the city with my new handbag, I couldn’t help but think how fitting Milan is as the backdrop for this week’s blog post. This city embodies romance with its enchanting historic buildings and the elegance of its inhabitants. I'm not afraid to admit that I’m falling head over heels with this passionate, glamorous metropolis!

Saturday Shopping & Theatre in Milan

Milan’s famous Duomo, an architectural marvel and the very heart of the city, always welcomes me with its breathtaking grandeur and ornate, intricate details. But it was the lively scene in the streets around the Duomo, with a cacophony of buzzing chatter and street performers, that captured my heart on Saturday.

We took a break from sightseeing at an adorable, charming café tucked away on a charming, cobbled street. They had the most delicious homemade cakes and fresh coffee, a perfect indulgence before heading to the Piccolo Teatro to see a captivating performance by the company. I loved seeing a theatrical piece so steeped in the Italian tradition of physical comedy, with energetic storytelling, flamboyant costumes and vibrant theatrical energy.

Tutus for a Good Cause - Finding Inspiration in Milan

What really captures the heart of any place for me is the ability to connect with local artists, designers and artisans who share my love of dance and passion for spreading that joy to the world! I love exploring little shops in Milan where I find beautifully handcrafted clothes, a wonderful treasure hunt!

It’s in these quieter, hidden gems, with their individualistic flair, that I find the real magic of Milan. And when I combine this passion for fashion and creativity with a love for the arts, the excitement knows no bounds. I'm always looking for inspiration from these incredible creators who have helped bring to life my little dream - to share my love for ballet and to bring a little bit of pink magic to the world.

Milan: The Inspiration of Colour and Light

One of my favourite things about being here is just wandering through the streets - they are always bursting with color and excitement. From the beautifully decorated stores and grand palaces to the local farmers' markets and buzzing cafes, there's something to capture your imagination around every corner. The energy of this city is something truly unique and something that I always love experiencing anew on each trip here.

I find myself drawn to this captivating energy, constantly inspired by Milan's artistry and the city's relentless charm. There's simply no place quite like Milan - a city with history, fashion and charm etched onto its streets. As I reflect on the days filled with opera, shopping and laughter, I realize that it's a part of my life that I want to experience over and over again.
