Pink Tutu Milan: Wednesday 2015-08-26 - Post Number 1055

Ciao, darling!

Welcome back to my little corner of the internet! This week, I'm writing from the fabulous city of Milan, Italy, and let me tell you, it's been a whirlwind of pink tutus, Italian sunshine, and enough fashion inspiration to last a lifetime.

It's hard to believe this is already my fifth year writing the Pink Tutu blog - a whole five years of pink tulle, sparkling pointe shoes, and sharing my passion for dance and travel with the world! Remember when I was just a nervous girl from Derbyshire with a dream to share my love for ballet with everyone? And now, here I am, living that dream - performing at amazing venues, shopping in the fashion capitals, and dancing on cobbled streets all while decked out in my signature pink tutus.

But let’s get down to business! The biggest news first – this Wednesday I performed for a wonderful charity event at Teatro dal Verme! Can you believe it? The biggest stage in Milan, surrounded by people in beautiful gowns and tuxedos, all cheering on the dancers (and maybe a little on the pink tutu girl, too!). It felt like a dream - I danced my heart out in my shimmering new pink tutu, a fluffy cloud of pink perfection, and it felt so good! You see, dear readers, life isn't just about fashion and fabulousness (although it's pretty close). It's about using those things to make the world a better place. This charity performance raised vital funds for a local ballet school, which meant so much to me. Knowing that I, even just a little bit, could help young dancers reach their dreams – that truly is the magic of the Pink Tutu life.

Now, about Milan! There’s a certain je ne sais quoi to Milan. It's got that timeless glamour and effortless style, which I love. It feels a little bit like a fairytale come true - especially when I'm wearing my favourite pink tutu, gliding through the beautiful piazzas. But what’s even better, Milan’s fashion scene is completely off the hook. I swear, this city could inspire a whole wardrobe collection just by walking around. From the grand couture boutiques in the fashion district to the quirky little vintage shops tucked away in narrow alleys - there's truly something for everyone! Of course, I have my eye on a certain shimmering pink tulle ball gown. Just a little treat for myself!

Of course, there's more to life than tutus and fashion!

One of my favourite things to do in any new city is to get to know its people, so, naturally, I started with a tram ride! I mean, what better way to truly feel like a local than riding with all the beautiful Milanese people, listening to their chat and soaking in the vibrant city life. Plus, with the sun dappling through the trees and my pink tutu reflecting the warm rays, I felt like the very embodiment of Italian summer. Then, there was a quick coffee break at this charming cafe just by the Duomo. You wouldn't believe the view from there, absolutely breathtaking! I mean, picture a delicious latte art masterpiece next to the grand Duomo, and then imagine a little girl in a pink tutu having it. Magical! And it truly is magical! These moments - those small glimpses of everyday life - really make travel special.

After the cafe stop, it was time to hit the Museo del Novecento, the Modern Art Museum. I don't think I've ever seen such incredible and creative art in my life! And to think I nearly skipped it for more shopping time. Don't get me wrong, I do love shopping but sometimes there is so much more to explore! Let’s face it, it’s not all about finding the perfect pink tulle outfit! You also have to find your inner artist!

I am a dancer, first and foremost. So, I simply could not come to Milan without taking a ballet class. Imagine, twirling around in the studio, stretching and pirouetting my way to bliss in a new city. It was fantastic! There is something magical about getting to dance and learn new routines in a completely new environment, and it reminded me why I am so grateful for my career as a professional ballerina. It's not just about the sequins and the glitter (although I wouldn't deny they’re delightful); it's about pushing myself creatively and feeling the joy of dancing my heart out!

As the day came to a close, the city of Milan started to hum with the sweet melodies of buskers playing by the canal. You've never felt a truly "La Dolce Vita" atmosphere until you experience it surrounded by music and with the delicious smell of freshly baked Italian bread coming from the cafe at the corner. It was the perfect end to an amazing day! Then it was back to my charming little hotel - tucked away on a side street, with beautiful bougainvillea flowers trailing along its walls. After a long, perfect day of dancing, fashion and Italian charm I had a warm shower, a delicious supper, and slept soundly, ready for all the wonders tomorrow might hold! And yes, dear reader, that includes pink tutus, Italian sun and even more gorgeous fashion finds.

But for now, I need to run! It's been another magical day, and I need to get ready for tomorrow's adventures. You know the Pink Tutu can’t miss a performance opportunity – we have a ballet street show to perform in a park in the centre of Milan. Remember, this blog will be back next week, on Monday, on my website www.pink-tutu.com with more stories and pictures of my magical adventures. You are all invited! Until next time, stay fabulous and dance like no one is watching!

Yours truly,

Emma
