Pink Tutu Milan: Week 1065 - Ciao Bella!

Wednesday, 4th November 2015

Oh, hello my lovelies! It’s Emma here, reporting live from Milan, Italy. This is post number 1065 in my weekly pink tutu pilgrimage to the fashion capital of the world. As always, I’m here to bring you all the sparkly delights of the city – think high fashion, chic cafes, incredible ballet performances and, of course, an abundance of pink tutus!

Now, where was I? Ah yes, the thrill of the train ride! I love a good Italian train journey. The air is filled with the sounds of Italian chatter, the landscape whizzes by in a blur of olive groves and charming villages, and the occasional whiff of coffee (and perhaps a whiff of strong cheese… Italians are, after all, quite the cheese lovers, aren't they?)

A Dreamy Milanese Morning

This morning, I woke up in a little haven of a boutique hotel in the heart of the city. I couldn’t help but admire the charming Parisian-style balconies overflowing with colourful flowers. It felt like stepping into a romantic novel. And, of course, the hotel's vibrant pink walls – a welcome sight after a long train journey!

Pink Tutu Chic – Street Style

With my pink tutu safely nestled in my suitcase, I set out to explore Milan's vibrant street scene. Let’s just say, you wouldn’t catch me wearing my pink tutu on the streets here! Although… one day, perhaps… I do love to see what the local Milanese are wearing. The Italian sense of style is a marvel to behold! So much attention to detail, so much charisma… I love how every outfit tells a story. And today, it felt as though everyone was embracing a touch of autumnal hues - rich rusts, deep greens and soft ochre yellows. Very sophisticated, and perhaps a little bit reminiscent of a luscious autumnal ballet.

A Parisian Breakfast with a Milanese Flair

After a morning of strolling and admiring the city’s beauty, I found myself craving a little Parisian charm. I found myself drawn to a quaint cafe tucked away in a narrow cobbled street. Imagine dainty pastel tables adorned with white tablecloths and elegant iron chairs, overflowing with pastries in the most delicate shades of blush pink. (Did I mention I love pink?) I ordered a croissant and a cup of creamy cappuccino and felt myself relax. I don’t think there’s a better feeling than enjoying a delicious pastry with a frothy cup of coffee while people watching in a chic cafe – it’s all so civilised, and delightfully chic.

Ballet Beauty - My Passion

Later this afternoon, I’m headed to the Teatro alla Scala. Milan’s world-famous opera house! This evening, they're putting on a spectacular performance of ‘The Sleeping Beauty’. I'm beyond thrilled to be seeing it. I absolutely adore the fairy tale theme of the ballet – with its magical forests, slumbering princesses, and handsome princes. Of course, my absolute favourite is the beautiful ballerina’s pink tutu! This, for me, is the most magical piece of costuming – and such a key element of the whole story! The colours are so enchanting – and the shape just melts away the boundaries between imagination and reality… And as soon as I saw it, I knew I needed to embrace my own pink tutu love and share it with the world!

The Italian Tram Adventure

For me, there’s something wonderfully exciting about travelling by tram in Milan. I just love the feeling of rushing past the city streets. I often find myself transported back to childhood – remembering exciting holidays and the magic of feeling like anything is possible. I spend a lot of time looking out of the windows at the beautiful buildings and bustling streets, imagining my future performances in every glamorous location my eye alights on. Today, as I was enjoying the view from my tram window, I noticed a group of schoolchildren excitedly chattering away on their way home from school. They reminded me so much of my younger self, filled with such vivacious energy! I smiled as they giggled, laughing and pointing at things I couldn’t even see from my spot on the tram! It was infectious - such pure joy. And it filled me with that special type of magic that only childhood holds.

Dinner Delights

Later this evening, I plan to experience a delicious meal of traditional Italian cuisine at a charming trattoria, The atmosphere will undoubtedly be warm and welcoming – with the sounds of chatter, the clinking of glasses, and the irresistible scent of freshly baked bread! I'm so excited to indulge in their famous homemade pasta dishes - spaghetti with a touch of garlic and basil or perhaps gnocchi bathed in rich tomato sauce! The aroma is intoxicating! Of course, no meal would be complete without a glass of delectable red wine to accompany the delicious dishes – there’s nothing quite like it.

Finding my Inner Sparkles

My dear friends, as I head off to explore the magical world of Milan, I urge you to keep your inner pink tutu gleaming. Remember that you’re all radiant, dazzling and unique in your own special way. Go forth and inspire others with your creativity! Spread the joy and the passion! Embrace life with enthusiasm, and remember that anything is possible. Emma’s Milan Diary:

Here’s a peek into what I’ve been getting up to this week!

Monday 2nd November: Arrived in Milan after a fun-filled journey by train. What an incredible city! I could have walked around for hours simply taking in the architectural beauty! My journey took me through rolling countryside filled with the most glorious green meadows and ancient castles. What an inspiring place to write about!

Tuesday 3rd November: Woke up early to get ready for a fashion photo shoot in one of Milan's trendiest districts. What an exciting experience! This is my first photo shoot in Milan! I absolutely loved playing around with colours, fabrics, and of course, tutus! There was so much fabulous fashion on display, from couture designs to quirky street style. It really opened my eyes to what the Italians consider “chic”. The designers all expressed an inspiring and playful attitude that is almost magical to watch unfold. You’ll find photos from the shoot soon on my Instagram page.

Wednesday 4th November: A quick outfit change before I headed out for a thrilling performance at Teatro alla Scala – I can’t believe I was dancing in a world-famous opera house! I can hardly contain my excitement about this incredible performance - it’s been such an amazing week, the highlight of my time in Italy so far!

Thursday 5th November: Spent the day exploring the city’s historical gems. It's so easy to feel swept away by the romance of it all – Milan is truly captivating! This evening, I indulged in some delicious Italian food at a restaurant tucked away on a quiet street.

Friday 6th November: I got to experience a magical journey around the beautiful Sforza Castle – I’m such a history buff so this was truly magical! I fell in love with the courtyards and stunning architecture. Afterwards, I strolled around the charming neighbourhood – and found the most exquisite Italian pastry shop for an afternoon snack!

Saturday 7th November: Took a day trip to the incredible Lake Como! A trip on the ferry gave me breathtaking views across the crystal clear water. Lake Como is truly one of the most enchanting places on earth! The views of the water, the surrounding mountains and the charming towns dotting the shoreline - just simply magical!

Sunday 8th November: Back in the big city - what a day to relax and recharge after my trip! I'm starting to get really into the whole “dolce vita” style of life - life at a more relaxed pace.
