Pink Tutu Milan: Post #1081 - Wednesday 2016-02-24

Ciao bella!

The sunshine is streaming in through my hotel window, lighting up my pink tutu like a beacon of joy! Today’s Milan adventure promises to be a delightful one, full of colour, creativity, and the intoxicating thrill of the ballet world. It's Wednesday, and you know what that means!

It's Pink Tutu Milan time, baby!

And, as you know, it’s always a pleasure to share my experiences with you, my lovely, tutu-loving tribe!

Milan - this incredible city with its elegant streets and stunning architecture - just calls to my ballet-loving soul. This city breathes fashion, oozes creativity, and whispers dreams of elegance.

Speaking of elegant, did I mention I found the most perfect vintage brooches this weekend, perfect for accessorising a ballerina's ensemble? I'm talking tiny, sparkling cherubs, floral blooms, and a bejewelled crown! Now my tutu truly has that royal touch.

But enough about me! Let’s delve into the day, shall we?

This Week's Ballet Performances

First things first - what’s a Pink Tutu Milan blog without a dash of ballet?

This week I’m thrilled to share I snagged tickets to see the mesmerising La Traviata at the stunning Teatro alla Scala! I have such high hopes for this production – the music, the costumes, the sheer theatrical experience – I can barely contain my excitement.

Just a quick note on ticket prices: for an avid ballet enthusiast like me, they’re definitely not cheap! It’s a balancing act – choosing which performances to attend, making sure I save enough for my fabulous new brooches (yes, I did buy two!). But it's all part of the journey! Luckily, a few of my ballet performances earn me some cash, funding my ballet addiction.

What are the hottest dance events this week?
* Tonight – La Traviata at the Teatro alla Scala. * Tomorrow, I have a special treat - a Ballet School Gala at Teatro Dal Verme! It's a great opportunity to see young talent and appreciate the dedication of these young dancers.

Oh, and before I forget, I had the best time last night – dinner with fellow tutu enthusiasts, including the ever-charming Alessandro, a gifted choreographer with a contagious energy. I learnt so much about the Milan ballet scene. He even told me about this new “ballet street” project - a vibrant showcase of dancers performing in unconventional settings like city squares. Apparently, this new style is taking the world by storm – watch this space for my report on the event.

Fashion: Finding My Style in the City

Of course, what's Milan without a sprinkle of fashion magic? Today, I’m heading straight to the Quadrilatero della Moda, the fashion district, for a morning of shopping, of course.

My trusty notebook is packed with a list of must-visit boutiques, including a charming vintage clothing shop where I hear they have some incredible sequined jackets! Oh, and those little designer shops that have a fabulous selection of tights. Don’t get me wrong – it’s always great to dress to the nines in a brand new dress. But sometimes, finding a special piece of clothing that adds character is the real thrill.

And when I find that hidden gem, I promise, you’ll be the first to know!

Speaking of hidden gems, my new favourite way to navigate Milan is by tram. It’s a perfect mix of practicality and charm, you get a different view of the city - you can spot everything from buzzing cafes to hidden street art. It also gives me plenty of time to watch my favourite bloggers and their tutu inspirations.

This weekend, I had a lovely lunch in the charming district of Brera, near the Palazzo di Brera. The pasta was to die for - so fresh and tasty, and I discovered a wonderful bookstore selling old ballet books and posters – the ultimate souvenir for my ballerina dreams. I spent ages lost in its pages, browsing old ballets scores and imagining what it would have been like to dance in those grand theatres of old!

Here’s a quick glimpse of what I’ll be writing about next week:

  • My journey to La Traviata at Teatro alla Scala - it will be a ballet bonanza!
  • Shopping spree adventures: hunting for those elusive designer tights, vintage jackets, and a must-have pair of ballet pumps.
  • Finding that perfect coffee spot in Milan – it's an adventure of flavour!
