Pink Tutu Milan: A Ballet-tastic Adventure in the City of Fashion! (Post #1091)

Ciao bella! It's Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-clad ballerina, and I'm back from Milan, Italy! My suitcase is bursting with vibrant new fashion finds, my legs ache from twirling around at rehearsals, and my heart is full of the delicious energy of this dynamic city. Let me tell you, Milan truly knows how to make a girl feel like a princess!

A Derby Girl in the Fashion Capital:

It's always a whirlwind arriving in a new city, but Milan was extra special this week. This week's ballet adventure was fuelled by my latest fundraising success – you won't believe the generous crowd at the Derbyshire Theatre – the tutus truly flew! That performance put me on the next train to Milan, which, for those of you who know me, was the only logical thing to do after that kind of energy. I may be a Derby girl at heart, but I'm always ready to chase a ballet dream – and trust me, Milan was the ultimate ballet playground.

My Week in Pink: Exploring Milan in a Tutu!

My first priority? Shopping, of course! And let's just say Milan delivered on all fronts! From the glamorous boutiques of Via Monte Napoleone to the chic vintage treasures on Via Torino, I was truly in heaven. Think bright silks, floral prints, statement jewellery and oh, so much pink! A few too many sparkly shoes made their way into my suitcase – don’t judge!

My favourite shops in Milan (so far!)

  • LuisaViaRoma: The ultimate luxury haven with stunning designers, fabulous sales assistants and… did I mention the pink! This shop had me swooning over silk gowns and ballerina-inspired dresses – some would say I almost fell out of my tutu trying to take it all in!
  • D Magazine: For a truly unique vintage experience, this quirky shop on Via Torino has an eclectic collection that wouldn’t be out of place on the runway! And with my tutu in tow, it was quite the sight as I navigated the racks of fabulous frocks, searching for my next performance ensemble.
  • Golden Goose: A shoe haven for the ballerina in me, their range is pure luxury. I am convinced they put extra cushioning in those designer trainers for all that twirling!

But Milan wasn't all about shopping (shocking, I know). Let me take you through a day in the life of your favourite ballerina in Milan:

Tuesday 2016-05-03: The Ballet Begins!

After a delicious breakfast of espresso and pastries at a quaint café, I made my way to the iconic Teatro alla Scala, an absolute icon for ballet lovers! You guys, it was breathtaking! The intricate gilded interiors are pure opulence. You could practically smell the history and elegance, just as I imagined the stars of old must have.

I spent the entire day taking classes in the stunning studios of the Scala ballet academy. The instructors were truly phenomenal – all elegance, precision, and passion. I had a whole new vocabulary for turns, jumps, and pirouettes, enough to get my tutu really whirling! It was the ultimate ballet dream, and I left feeling revitalized and inspired!

Wednesday 2016-05-04: An Evening of Ballet Glamour!

After a morning exploring the Milan Fashion District – where the glamour oozes from every corner - I prepared myself for a grand night at the theatre. A highlight was seeing the renowned ballerina Elena Pankova in the stunning "Giselle". Oh my goodness, she was exquisite, truly captivating! It was the perfect blend of artistry, emotion and, of course, dazzling tutus. Every movement was effortless grace, every turn, a whirlwind of magic. I was truly transported to a world of fairies and forest nymphs – even I had to pinch myself to believe it was real. I felt truly inspired – what better motivation to get back into my studio!

Thursday 2016-05-05: Milan, through pink-tinted glasses!

Today was a day to experience Milan from a local perspective! Instead of high heels, I chose the most practical shoes - my comfy pink ballet pumps, perfect for all that exploring. And the journey to the city centre couldn't have been more exciting - imagine the thrill of weaving through the bustling streets, with its aroma of fresh croissants and warm pizza!

We took the historic trams - always my favourite way to travel, even in the most glamorous of cities. These beautiful old carriages, gliding through the cobblestone streets, truly embody the vintage charm of Milan! And let’s be honest, who needs a vintage taxi when you can ride a tram in a pink tutu!

From there we toured the amazing Sforza Castle. Built in the 14th Century, this mighty castle had some magnificent statues of knights, lions and more. Even a history buff like me, knew this was one amazing, stunning castle!

Friday 2016-05-06: The Power of Food

Every trip needs a special food treat – that's just the way it is in the Pink Tutu world! And for this trip, I decided to give myself a day of Milan's finest dining! The vibrant atmosphere was electric, every taste a burst of flavour. From creamy gelato (vanilla, naturally!), perfectly toasted paninis to a divine afternoon tea with a little pink cupcake – trust me, I went all out! I finished my food-venture with the tastiest tiramisu – a perfect ending to a delectable day!

Pink Tutu Inspiration in Milan:

This week, my Milan journey was about embracing a little bit of that Milanese magic. As a ballerina and aspiring fashionista, I feel the undeniable link between elegance and grace, style and self-expression. Whether twirling in the studios, browsing through exquisite shops or even taking a delightful tram ride, every moment has sparked my creative flair! The inspiration flowing from this city is so infectious – it even brought out a little more pink in my world. And let’s face it, with so many exquisite places to visit in Milan – I was bound to be feeling inspired and, well, pink!

I have no doubt that I'll be back in Milan, tutu in tow. This city is a feast for the eyes, a symphony of creativity and an absolute playground for my ballerina heart.

Until next week, dear friends. Remember, the world is waiting for a little more pink, a touch more twirl, a sprinkle of elegance.

Ciao for now!
