Pink Tutu Milan - #1131 - Wednesday 2017-02-08

Bonjour mes chéris!

Well, here I am again, nestled in the heart of Milan, surrounded by cobbled streets and the delicious aroma of fresh coffee and pastries.

I know what you're thinking. "Another trip, Emma? Surely you've been everywhere by now!" Well, not quite. Milan is a new adventure, full of beautiful sights, chic shops and, of course, a plethora of ballet performances to tantalise my senses.

As you know, dear readers, I am an avid enthusiast of all things dance - especially the majestic art of ballet. I live, breathe, and even occasionally sleep, in a tutu. Pink, naturally. It's not just a wardrobe staple; it's my armour, my wings, and a tiny rebellion against the grey uniformity of the world. And I'm here to tell you, Milan embraces all shades of pink, and tutus in every form are a-flutter in this vibrant metropolis!

This week's journey kicked off with a charming train ride from Derbyshire, where I traded the rolling hills and picturesque stone cottages for the iconic skyline of Milan. As always, I made sure my trusty pink tutu graced my journey, earning me more than a few curious glances and even a wave or two from some friendly locals. (They get it, you see! The pink tutu message is spreading.)

Arriving in Milan is like stepping into a world of style and glamour. Everywhere you look, fashion oozes from the streets - perfectly manicured women with immaculate outfits strutting by with the effortless chic that I simply adore. Even the city itself seems to wear its elegant persona with pride - from the grand Duomo with its spires reaching for the sky to the sleek lines of the contemporary buildings that punctuate the historical backdrop.

I've already had the pleasure of witnessing some fantastic ballet performances here. Last night, I enjoyed the exquisite beauty of a production of 'Giselle' at the Teatro alla Scala, the city's world-famous opera house. The dancers were simply magnificent, and the sheer skill and artistry of every movement left me utterly speechless.

During the day, I've been taking in the city's other artistic marvels - visiting galleries like the Pinacoteca di Brera and the Museo del Novecento. Both filled with fascinating works that offer a fascinating insight into Italy's rich art heritage. Of course, I can't leave out a visit to the world-renowned Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. This glorious glass-vaulted shopping arcade, is like a gilded palace of luxury goods, brimming with exquisite designer boutiques, artisanal cafes, and stylish people watching at its best.

I have already found a delightful little tea shop in the city centre, a haven of Parisian-inspired elegance. There, surrounded by the sweet aroma of fresh scones and delicate pastries, I sat for hours lost in a world of creativity, sketching out future Pink Tutu fashion ideas and dreaming of my next dance performance. The lovely proprietor, an elderly lady with eyes that sparkle with wit and a genuine warmth that instantly draws you in, has a remarkable sense of style, always sporting elegant vintage pieces with an effortless grace that reminded me of a film star from a bygone era. I was truly enthralled.

One of my favourite parts of travelling, I confess, is exploring new places by local transport. This week I've discovered the charming world of Milan's trams and subway. The city seems to pulsate with a unique rhythm as I ride alongside locals rushing to their destinations, with their stories etched on their faces and their lives flowing through the windows of the trams. This gives me a unique peek into the everyday lives of the people, which is such a beautiful thing. And let me tell you, even on public transport, there’s never a dull moment when you’re wearing a pink tutu. People stop and smile, ask about the outfit, and sometimes, they even share their own stories of dance.

Oh, and I must tell you about my new shopping discovery. I’ve found this amazing boutique in the city centre that sells the most divine ballerina accessories. Imagine, if you will, delicate feather boas, shimmery tutus, bejewelled tiaras, and tiny crystal shoes perfect for every budding ballerina. The shop owner, a petite, fiery redhead named Isabella, is a real character. With a contagious energy and passion for ballet, she’s an incredible source of inspiration and fashion wisdom.

The weather has been exceptionally kind to me, so I've managed to enjoy several delightful walks exploring the charming hidden streets, squares and ancient piazzas of this gorgeous city. I even had the pleasure of visiting the fascinating Museo della Scienza e della Tecnica Leonardo da Vinci, a testament to the brilliant genius of this great artist and inventor. The collection of machinery and inventions are an impressive sight, but nothing prepares you for seeing a full-scale replica of Leonardo’s magnificent flying machine - it was awe-inspiring!

Every evening, as dusk begins to settle and the city transforms into a cascade of shimmering lights, I find myself strolling through the charming cobblestone streets, drawn to the gentle music and lively energy spilling out of the local trattorias. These lively establishments provide a welcome retreat, offering the most delightful plates of pasta and traditional Italian dishes, always accompanied by a glass of crisp local wine and lively conversation with the warm and hospitable locals.

And then, there's the gelato. I'm not sure what it is about Italy, but the gelato here is truly a divine indulgence. So creamy, so smooth, with an incredible array of flavours that would entice even the most discerning palate. From the classic flavours of pistachio and hazelnut to the more unusual flavours like lavender and basil, there’s a treat for every taste bud. I find it difficult to resist.

As my time in Milan slowly slips away, I can't help but feel a bittersweet mix of longing and contentment. This magnificent city, steeped in history, culture, and endless creativity, has captivated my heart with its unparalleled charm and endless delights. It’s truly an experience to treasure.

However, as with all adventures, my journey here in Milan must eventually draw to a close. It's time for me to pack up my Pink Tutu wardrobe, bid farewell to the charming Milanese streets and head back to Derbyshire. I'm sure you'll agree, however, that I wouldn't have it any other way. After all, this is just one chapter in the grand ballet of my life, and I can't wait for my next performance on the world's stage, which will surely lead me to yet another dazzling destination.

Ciao for now, my lovely readers, until next week, when I'll share more adventures from the world of dance, fashion, and all things Pink Tutu. Don't forget to visit me at www.pink-tutu.com every Monday for a fresh dose of style, inspiration, and stories from my fabulous dance-filled life!

Love always, Emma
xx
