Pink Tutu Milan: Wednesday 2017-02-22 - Post #1133

Ciao bellas! It's Emma here, back from the vibrant streets of Milan and straight into your virtual living rooms. My heart is still doing a little pirouette after this whirlwind week of fashion, ballet and, of course, the most stunning pink tutus imaginable. It's a beautiful Wednesday, and what better day than a midweek treat to get our fashion inspiration flowing and our hearts fluttering? This week, we're back in Italy for a grand Milan adventure! I think you'll be as delighted as I am, as I've discovered a ballet treasure trove, plus a secret spot for the most magical shoes in all of Italy.

This week in Milan, I'm ready to embrace the spirit of this captivating city. Just like those fabulous, twirling dancers on the world's grandest stages, I'm letting loose and twirling my way through this week.

Remember those gorgeous, graceful moves you see on the stage? That's what life in Milan is all about. Imagine cobbled streets echoing with the music of life, shops displaying shimmering fabrics and elegant shoes like a perfectly arranged dance formation. I've got my pink tutu in tow, and I’m ready to embrace this city's vibrant heart, exploring all the secrets that lie hidden in its grand museums, bustling piazzas and cobbled streets.

Today, we'll embark on a journey from the historical charm of Castello Sforzesco, the city's iconic medieval castle, to the modern grace of the Museo Nazionale della Scienza e della Tecnologia Leonardo da Vinci, a treasure trove of scientific wonders. It’s all about contrasts and blending old and new – a little like how a vintage pink tutu can be the perfect partner for a bold, contemporary look, right?

#BalletLove

There’s no better way to start a new day than with a little dance, and let’s face it, nothing ignites my soul more than the sheer beauty of ballet. You're probably wondering, where could I find such enchantment in Milan, right? This week, I stumbled upon Teatro alla Scala, a historical jewel nestled right in the heart of Milan. This breathtaking theatre has played host to legends of the stage for over two centuries, and its magnificent presence is palpable even before you step inside.

The air vibrates with history, excitement and the spirit of artistry. It was like a step back in time - all elegant, refined, and oh, so inspiring. The stage itself feels alive, poised for the most dramatic of ballets, each intricate detail whispering stories of famous performances and unforgettable evenings.

I knew I was in for a treat! Just imagining the stories within those walls set my toes tapping and my heart racing!

Speaking of stories, my love for tutus continues to be a whimsical, colourful and absolutely joyous adventure. But let's face it, even with my boundless love for this magical garment, I sometimes need inspiration! Enter, Milan!

My first discovery was a tiny, charming boutique called Atelier Valentina tucked away on a cobblestone street near the Duomo. It was a real “step back in time” type of boutique, filled with vintage treasures from lace and silks, to dazzling costume jewellery. And guess what? Among all the gorgeous gowns and vintage hats, there she was - my heart's delight, a pale pink, satin tutu, all soft ruffles and sparkling rhinestones. I had to have it! It’s just the right amount of whimsy for my latest blog shoot!

The shopkeeper, Valentina herself, was as delightful as the store. Her eyes sparkled as much as the shop’s glitzy gowns and when I asked her what inspired her unique aesthetic, she spoke with a passion that made me fall even deeper in love with the timeless charm of the tutu! Valentina's secret to style? She sees the tutu as more than just a dance garment - it's an expression of individuality and timeless elegance. I'd call her a fellow pink-tutu enthusiast, if you know what I mean!

Now, it wouldn’t be a true Milan experience without a journey on the city's iconic trams. Imagine it – sunshine warming my cheeks as I cruise past breathtaking architecture. There's a unique rhythm to Milan – a blend of history and modern style – a ballet of old and new in every tram ride! I couldn't resist grabbing a seat next to the window, capturing some moments to share with you, my beloved blog followers.

Speaking of the iconic, the Duomo (that beautiful cathedral you've likely seen in photos) stands as a testament to Milan's history and elegance. Its stunning marble exterior sparkles against the blue sky, and its intricate design is a marvel of engineering. A climb to its top is a reward in itself – offering panoramic views of the city. It’s hard not to get lost in the view - a magnificent cityscape sprawling across the horizon, dotted with iconic architecture like a ballet set in stone! It was definitely worth the trip – and the amazing gelato we found on the way!

And no visit to Milan would be complete without a little fashion indulgence! The shops here are filled with style, inspiration and everything a girl like me could wish for! I could lose myself for hours browsing the window displays – from high-end boutiques with exquisite silk and embroidery to smaller, independent shops brimming with independent creativity. It's truly an immersive experience that sparks my fashion imagination!

But one particular shop held a special allure – Armani/Silos , a sleek, contemporary space displaying Giorgio Armani's fashion archive. Stepping into that shop was a sensory journey of colour, shape and texture! The beautiful garments, showcasing the journey of a fashion icon, truly felt like works of art, evoking feelings of joy, inspiration and appreciation. It reminded me how fashion and ballet can be seen as sister art forms – both focusing on movement, drama and expressing the human form. It’s definitely one to add to your must-visit list!

#FoodForAll

After all that dancing and shopping, there's nothing better than a delicious, Italian feast! Today's treat was a trip to the bustling Mercato Centrale – an ode to Italian gastronomy! It's not just a market, it’s a foodie haven – a symphony of aroma, flavour and vibrant culture.

Just imagine this - endless rows of stalls laden with mouthwatering delicacies. There's creamy ricotta, fresh pastries oozing with warm, buttery goodness, plump cheeses begging to be tasted and glistening, sun-ripened tomatoes bursting with flavor. The market is a foodie paradise! And there are so many delicious treats! Forget your diet and embrace the irresistible temptation of paninis dripping with melted mozzarella, crunchy fresh bread and hearty plates of steaming pasta!

#MilanMoments

You know me - my love for exploring extends beyond just the sights and sounds. It’s the moments - the hidden details - that really resonate! And Milan offered so many unique experiences. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee, a street musician's melody filling the air, or finding that perfect, unexpected gift – these are the moments that colour my memories! They paint a picture more vibrant and meaningful than any photograph.

For me, Milan is a kaleidoscope of sensory delight. Every corner I turn, every piazza I step into is an opportunity for inspiration, for learning, for soaking in the city's soul. And remember, even as you enjoy your daily lives – make time to embrace those precious moments - because life, much like a beautiful ballet performance, is made up of a series of delicate moments that create an unforgettable symphony of emotions.

Until next time, keep twirling! And as always, remember - if you want to feel fabulous, embrace your inner dancer. There's a pink tutu waiting for you – whether it’s hidden in your closet, waiting to be dusted off, or waiting for you in a vintage shop, ready to be found!

XOXO, Emma
