Pink Tutu Milan: Week 1172 - Where Dreams and Sequins Collide!

Ciao bellas!

This week I've been living it up in the fabulous city of Milan! It feels like stepping into a dream – imagine Paris, but with even more designer boutiques, impossibly chic cafes and a hint of old-world Italian charm. The energy here is electric! I landed on Wednesday morning, grabbed a delicious panino with the freshest mozzarella (this is a city that knows how to eat!) and boarded the tram for a tour of the fashion districts.

Of course, any trip to Milan has to involve some serious shopping. Honestly, I couldn’t believe the variety and abundance of shops. From luxurious department stores dripping with glamour to vintage boutiques overflowing with unique finds, I was spoilt for choice. Did I indulge? Absolutely! I snagged the most gorgeous silk scarf in a vintage shop tucked away in a side street – it’s a stunning pink, naturally.

Later that day, after a well-deserved break for coffee and a croissant, I wandered into the Teatro alla Scala. For any ballerina, stepping into the Scala is like a pilgrimage – the grandeur of it, the history, the whispers of legendary performers… it just takes your breath away. They are performing 'Il Trovatore' this season. Such drama! The singers, the costumes, the set designs... it was so visually stunning, and the music had me captivated from start to finish. I’m going to be dreaming of that passionate soprano’s voice for weeks!

Speaking of music, a bit of fun fact – it was in this very city, way back in the 18th century, that the ballet shoe as we know it, with the flat sole and ribbon ties, was born! Imagine – those very same shoes, inspiring so much dance over the years! Makes you want to hop onto the stage and twirl right?

Ballet On the Street:

You know me - I always like to see what’s happening off the beaten path, so after the Scala performance, I found myself drawn to a quiet piazza near my hotel. And you won't believe what I saw – a small group of kids performing ballet. In the middle of the square, under the watchful gaze of the ancient cathedral. They weren't dressed in the finest tutus or point shoes - these were ordinary kids, using whatever props they could find. Their enthusiasm, their dedication, their love for dance – it just filled me with so much joy! It reminded me that passion can be found anywhere, no matter your circumstance. And what a beautiful sight it was, a little glimpse of ballet magic amidst the Italian hustle and bustle!

Tram Tales:

Milan is a city that's truly walkable, but there’s nothing quite like the romance of the tram! With each stop I pass, a new piece of history and architecture reveals itself. You can feel the stories seeped into the walls of each building – imagine all the incredible figures that have walked these very streets! This week, I took the tram to see a collection of Italian designers in a gallery, the theme was ‘Beauty and Fashion’ and they had the most fantastic use of light and colour. It's no surprise that the city is renowned for its cutting edge style – the fashion is truly something else!

Milan and The Pink Tutu

Of course, a trip to Milan wouldn't be complete without some pink tutu exploration! One morning, I set off on a quest to find the perfect pink tutu – a majestic, dreamlike one fit for a Milanese princess! The search led me to a quaint, tucked-away shop that specialised in vintage ballet costumes, the owner – an elderly gentleman with a mischievous twinkle in his eye – told me tales of legendary ballerinas from the past. Imagine the secrets and stories locked away within these costumes! He helped me choose a blush pink tulle tutu with delicate lace detailing, a true beauty!

Food Glorious Food:

A big highlight of Milan, beside the incredible shopping, has to be the food. Think pasta dishes that are literally bursting with flavour, melt-in-your-mouth gelato, creamy ricotta, and the most amazing pastries… Honestly, my stomach is still doing a happy dance at the thought of it all! And don’t forget the cappuccino - always a morning ritual, enjoyed alongside a sweet biscotti. The art of living, as they say.

Finding Magic in the Everyday:

Milan is a city full of hidden surprises and delightful moments. I've stumbled upon hidden courtyards teeming with flowers, serene parks perfect for a leisurely stroll, and even an antique bookshop that transports you to a bygone era.

On To Paris!

With a suitcase overflowing with memories and a heart full of joy, I'm hopping on a train to Paris tomorrow. Next stop, the City of Lights – oh how I love exploring new places and the excitement of new adventures! And what’s better than experiencing Europe from the comfort of a train carriage, surrounded by the soothing rhythm of the rails?

If you’ve ever dreamt of a place where fashion and passion meet, where you can find a little bit of magic around every corner, Milan is the place for you.

And before you go, I have a little challenge for you! What if, this week, we all took inspiration from the dancers of Milan? Imagine wearing a pink tutu for just one hour, and feeling the freedom, confidence and creativity it brings. Let me know what you think, leave a comment below, or tag your pink tutu moment with #PinkTutuMilan!

Keep dancing, and until next week!

Lots of love,

Emma xx
