Buongiorno, darling tutu-lovers! It’s your favourite pink-clad ballerina back with another glorious installment from the heart of Milan! It’s been a whirlwind of a week, a dizzying spin of sequins and silk, with enough fabulous finds to make a fashionista's head spin! So, grab your fanciest teacup, put on a record that makes you want to twirl, and let's get right to it!
A Touch of Derbyshire in the Heart of Milan
For those of you who are new to the Pink Tutu world, I’m Emma, a girl from Derbyshire with a lifelong love for pink, tutus, and all things twirly. And for the past year, my travels have taken me on a grand adventure across Europe, sharing my passion for ballet, fashion, and the joys of travel with all of you.
And what a joy this week has been! From the cobbled streets of the historic city centre to the grand boulevards, Milan has been a veritable ballet of elegance, and I’ve been right in the middle of it!
A Dance with History at Teatro alla Scala
The Teatro alla Scala! What an incredible venue. It’s like a little slice of Italian history come to life. Just imagining the countless legends who’ve graced this stage gives me goosebumps! You can actually feel the energy of the past as you walk through the grand foyer. The opulent decorations are just incredible, from the plush velvet seats to the gilded ceilings.
This week I was lucky enough to see “La Traviata,” and the sheer talent of the performers blew me away! It was a masterclass in grace and emotion, set against a breathtaking backdrop. Watching the passionate dance sequences and listening to the heart-wrenching arias was like being transported to a whole other world. It truly is a magical experience that makes every pink-loving ballerina's heart flutter!
Finding the Perfect Pair (of Ballet Shoes!)
Every good dancer needs the perfect pair of shoes. So, naturally, a visit to Milan wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the wonderful “Il Magazzino delle Stelle,” one of the city’s oldest dancewear shops. This little treasure trove is absolutely brimming with the most gorgeous leotards, tights, and shoes you can imagine. They even have a special collection of pink tutus - imagine my excitement!
The staff were incredibly helpful and took the time to chat with me about my dance preferences. They really know their stuff, offering expert advice on finding the perfect fit. Let’s just say my ballet shoe collection got a little bigger this week, and my heart is overflowing with joy!
Milan: A Feast for the Senses
Milan is a city that constantly tantalizes your senses, from the rich aromas of coffee shops to the breathtaking vistas from the Duomo. And the food! Oh, the food! Every meal is a delicious adventure, a celebration of Italy's rich culinary heritage.
I have to give a shout-out to "Pasticceria Marchesi." Their cakes and pastries are so beautiful and delicate, they’re almost too pretty to eat… almost!
I also love the street food culture here! There’s nothing quite like enjoying a piping hot “arancini” or a melt-in-your-mouth "panino" while wandering the streets, taking in the city sights.
Trams, Trains, and a Sea of Pink!
The joy of traveling by tram and train across Milan is something special. I've seen so many fabulous outfits. And here's the best part - every time I spot someone rocking a touch of pink, my heart skips a beat! Even more exciting, this week I had the absolute pleasure of seeing a fellow ballerina on the train wearing a stunning, blush-colored tutu! Seeing a touch of our ballet spirit in the everyday world just brightens my day.
This whole adventure has inspired me even more to share my pink tutu message! Maybe that little touch of colour and playfulness is all the world needs to bring a smile to everyone's face! Imagine everyone rocking their own signature shade of pink, twirling through life with confidence and joy. What a beautiful world it would be!

Teatro alla Scala: “La Traviata”
This Italian masterpiece was simply breathtaking. It was the perfect mix of love, tragedy, and stunning choreography. The singers were phenomenal, and the passion of their performances transported the audience to a world of beauty and heartbreak. It was an evening I’ll never forget!
Milan Fashion Week: Front Row Chic
Speaking of dazzling shows, I happened to be in Milan during Fashion Week. I’ll never forget the fabulous runway displays I witnessed! It’s such an inspiring atmosphere to be around. All the top designers bring their best, and everyone dresses to impress.
The colours, the shapes, the intricate detail – it was an overwhelming sensory experience. I even managed to sneak in a peek behind the scenes at one of the shows!

Milan Street Style - Ballet Fashion Inspiration
The fashion scene in Milan was truly inspirational, from the catwalk to the everyday streets. This city embraces a mix of classical elegance with bold, modern trends.
One thing that really stood out to me was the way people incorporated colourful pops of personality into their looks. Even a classic outfit felt more fun with a statement accessory – like a pop of pink on a bag, for example.
I've taken note of lots of new styling ideas for my ballet wardrobe, from chic vintage sweaters to sophisticated heels that can take you from the studio to a chic soiree! I love when I find fashion ideas for the world off the stage as well. The more pink, the better, I say!
