Pink Tutu Milan: A Whirlwind of Fashion & Dance (Post 1207)
Hello, darlings! It's your favourite tutu-wearing traveller, Emma, back from the dazzling city of Milan, and let me tell you, this week has been an absolute dream!
Wednesday 2018-07-25: A Day of Fashion & Fairy Tales
Waking up in my cute little Milanese hotel, the sunlight streaming in through the window, I knew this day was going to be special. After a quick breakfast of buttery croissants and strong espresso (yes, even this ballerina loves a bit of caffeine!), I slipped on my newest pink tutu, the one with the delicate lace trim – it felt so right for the fashionable energy of Milan.
Today's agenda? A whirlwind of shopping, exploring, and of course, a touch of ballet! My trusty, pink suitcase was already packed with a carefully curated selection of outfits for every occasion – a new floral maxi dress for lunch at a chic outdoor café, a sharp tweed skirt and chic blouse for a meeting with a potential dance collaborator, and a gorgeous cocktail dress for a spectacular evening at the theatre. Milan is a city that never sleeps, and it seemed every corner offered a new treasure to discover.
My morning started at the stunning Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, a glass-vaulted shopping arcade filled with luxurious boutiques and grand cafes. I felt like a princess stepping into a fairy tale. I had to try on everything! I indulged in a little retail therapy, picking up some fabulous pink accessories for my collection - a silk scarf with delicate floral embroidery, a pair of rose-gold earrings, and a stunning pair of pointed-toe heels that whispered 'chic Milanese style'. I love how Italian shops seem to have a certain air of magic - all that velvet and leather. I bought a beautiful dusky pink scarf to tie around my ballet bag later, and popped it in my pink suitcase for safekeeping. I was beginning to look more like a mobile boudoir than a ballet dancer.
I was feeling very confident with my new additions, so I ventured down the streets, enjoying the lively atmosphere, stopping for gelato along the way - pistachio, naturally - because sometimes you just need a little scoop of pure happiness! And speaking of happiness, I caught the most beautiful tram ride later, complete with the melodic chimes that let you know it's approaching. It’s moments like these that really bring a place alive for me.
A Night of Enchantment at the Theatre
As evening approached, I headed to the grand Teatro alla Scala. Oh my, I love the architecture here - you wouldn't believe the detail. The air crackled with anticipation as we entered the majestic building. I slipped into my stunning cocktail dress - a shade of blush pink that would make the theatre's crimson velvet curtains jealous. We were in for a real treat tonight, a production of “La Traviata”. I find the whole Italian Opera experience mesmerising - the vibrant costumes, the passionate singing, the raw emotions... It's such a visceral experience, a true journey for the senses. This, this is why I dance. I just wish I had the guts to do a little turn on the stage at the end, perhaps a pirouette, in my pink tutu... I think they'd go wild! But I guess I’m meant for the stage, not the dance floor.
The rest of the evening was a blur of elegant conversations, champagne bubbles, and lingering glances at the other stunningly-dressed guests. As I watched the curtain fall on the final act, I knew I had experienced a truly magical night, a perfect blend of art and exquisite elegance. It’s so rewarding when your passion for dance and fashion collide! And let’s be honest, no trip to Milan is complete without an operatic crescendo. You can take the girl out of Derbyshire, but you can’t take the opera lover out of her!
Reflecting on Milan's Enchantment
Back in my hotel room, tucked beneath a pile of luxurious pink silk sheets, I took a moment to reflect on this incredible day. It had been a day brimming with fashion, culture, and pure joie de vivre. My pink tutu and I had certainly charmed the city!
Milan, you are a city of contradictions and captivating contrasts, a place where you can find a perfect cappuccino alongside cutting-edge design. Where you can go from a sophisticated couture boutique to a bustling local market in a heartbeat. It's a city that challenges your perceptions and makes your heart sing.
This weekend, I’ll be exploring more of Milan’s treasures – museums, galleries, secret gardens - the works! I am a true believer in getting a feel for the soul of a place. And let’s not forget – I’ll be spotting my favourite dancers at the famous Teatro alla Scala. I always have time for a ballet! And maybe… just maybe, I’ll be seen dancing on a street corner. My fellow dancers in the UK will be used to seeing me in Derbyshire with a cup of tea and a cheeky biscuit but Milan is more likely to be associated with an espresso and a scone. The life of a ballerina is one long glamorous journey – a whirl through time and space. I have a pink suitcase, a pair of pointe shoes and a pink tutu. I need nothing else.
So, if you ever find yourself in the beautiful city of Milan, I highly recommend visiting the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, wandering through the streets and experiencing the vibrant, stylish energy. Of course, I also urge you to visit Teatro alla Scala for an unforgettable evening of music and theatre.
Until next week, keep shining, and don’t forget to wear your pink tutu, even if it’s just in your dreams!
Love,
Emma
