Pink Tutu Milan: #1211 - Buongiorno from the Fashion Capital!

Wednesday, 22nd August 2018

Ciao, darlings! The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and the gelato is calling my name – what a glorious Wednesday in Milan! Today marks another incredible adventure in the fashion capital of the world. This week's pink tutu tour has me swirling with excitement because… it's the start of Milan Fashion Week!

Now, let's get real, I may be a tutu-wearing ballerina, but even I can appreciate a fabulous fashion show. And with shows by Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, and Fendi happening this week, there's simply no way I could miss the glamour and excitement.

Speaking of excitement, did I mention I just got the most adorable vintage tutu at a charming antique shop on Via Torino? Imagine this – soft, dusty pink tulle, a tiny scattering of shimmering sequins, and just enough of a vintage vibe to have me feeling like a real-life fairy princess! Of course, I had to give it a spin or two there and then, right on the cobblestones of the piazza. The shop owner, an absolutely lovely Italian lady named Lucia, beamed with delight as I twirled. She even gifted me a pair of adorable ballet slippers adorned with little pearl embellishments – talk about perfect for adding a touch of ballet chic to my Milan wardrobe!

This week’s #PinkTutuMilan adventure began with a delightful breakfast in the heart of Brera. A plate piled high with perfectly ripened peaches, juicy strawberries, and a heavenly cup of cappuccino was the perfect start to the day. Then, it was time for some retail therapy! The boutiques here in Milan are nothing short of a ballerina's dream. Think exquisite silks, perfectly crafted leather goods, and shoes so beautiful they make me want to dance for hours. But hold on – let’s not forget the star of the show – pink!

The windows of Via Montenapoleone were bursting with shades of pink – fuchsia, salmon, rose, and every imaginable hue. My heart skipped a beat as I saw a gorgeous blush-coloured silk dress shimmering behind a window, just waiting to be twirled in. Even the tiniest shops hidden in narrow alleyways seem to be overflowing with pink tutus, frilly socks, and adorable ballerina-themed accessories.

Milan is definitely my favourite place to embrace my love for all things feminine. I find myself drawn to the beauty of lace, the luxurious feel of velvet, and the timeless elegance of a well-tailored coat. Oh, and did I mention I stumbled across a truly magnificent pink vintage purse yesterday? It’s covered in sequins and has a charming little chain handle. Just wait until you see a photo on Instagram!

Later this week, I'm heading to a special performance by the Teatro alla Scala. Now, if you know anything about opera, you’ll understand the importance of this iconic theatre. Imagine – soaring arches, intricate carvings, and velvety red seats… the perfect backdrop for a captivating performance. The whispers of silk and the melodies of the orchestra, it’s all going to be a magical experience, I just know it!

Of course, no trip to Milan is complete without experiencing the city’s vibrant street food scene – the aromas wafting through the air are simply intoxicating. This week I'm making my way to the Mercato Centrale – a haven of mouth-watering delicacies. They say you can find everything here, from fresh pasta and homemade gelato to cheese aged for years and local wine. It’s a gourmand's paradise, and I can’t wait to get a taste of all it has to offer.

Between all the shopping, ballet, and eating, I’m making sure to soak up the city’s energy by exploring its historical treasures – a beautiful 15th century cathedral, a charming medieval castle, and an ancient Roman amphitheatre.

Milan is full of unexpected beauty, tucked away in charming alleyways, grand squares, and buzzing cafes. And speaking of cafes – today I’m stopping for an afternoon pick-me-up at a little spot just off the bustling Piazza Duomo. They make the most amazing pistachio macarons and lavender latte – it’s practically a ballerina’s dream!

You know I can’t resist the opportunity to bring a little ballet into my adventures. So later, I'm taking a ballet class in the beautiful park behind the Castello Sforzesco – a place where you can truly feel the history of Milan pulsing through the cobblestones. There’s nothing like dancing amongst the greenery, feeling the rhythm of the city as I plié and twirl.

But for now, I'm embracing the afternoon sunshine. The warmth of the Milanese sun is like a hug. My toes are tapping, the tutu is swaying gently, and I'm filled with an unyielding sense of joy. This is Milan life, my dears, and it's truly magical.

Coming up this week...

  • Fashion shows and exclusive parties.
  • A delicious gourmet adventure at the Mercato Centrale.
  • Discovering the secret charm of Milan’s alleyways.
  • Ballet class under the starry skies at Castello Sforzesco.
  • A romantic walk around the Navigli, Milan’s picturesque canals.

So stay tuned, darlings, because you don't want to miss any of this enchanting #PinkTutuMilan experience!
