Pink Tutu Milan: Post 1212 - Wednesday, 2018-08-29

Buongiorno, darlings! It's Emma here, your resident pink tutu aficionado, bringing you another instalment from the fashion capital of the world, Milan! I'm sipping on a latte, watching the world go by from a pavement cafe just outside the Duomo – a little bit of sunshine, a little bit of cappuccino, and a whole lot of fabulousness. I've spent the last few days exploring the city like a true ballerina – a twirl here, a graceful glide there, and a little pirouette around every stunning statue!

Travel, Shopping, and Pink Tutu Paradise

So, how did I get here? Well, my dears, it wouldn't be a Pink Tutu Milan adventure without a touch of train travel, of course! I bid farewell to the green hills and quaint villages of Derbyshire last week, boarding a comfy Eurostar, armed with my ballet shoes, my pinkest tutu, and a stack of new ballet books I picked up at the station's little bookshop. There's something incredibly romantic about travelling by train, don't you think? Watching the landscape whiz by, listening to the rhythmic click-clack of the wheels on the tracks…it sets my creative juices flowing!

Upon arriving in Milan, the city embraced me like a long-lost friend. The aroma of fresh bread wafted from every bakery, and the buzz of scooters zipped around cobbled streets. I immediately took a little jaunt on the local tram – another iconic transport for any discerning ballerina – to soak up the atmosphere. The locals were wonderfully warm and friendly, and I even got a chance to chat with a sweet little old lady in the market who complimented my tutu (which, obviously, was the perfect excuse to show it off!).

Milan, Fashion, and Me

Oh my goodness, darling readers! The fashion in Milan is simply divine. My Instagram is positively overflowing with gorgeous outfits, and I'm itching to get to my favourite stores, Prada, Valentino, and Gucci, to name just a few. Milan's fashion is bold, beautiful, and sophisticated – perfect for inspiring my own sense of style! But for now, I'm focusing on soaking up the city's culture and ambiance. After all, sometimes it's good to appreciate the beauty of the ordinary, right?

Milan’s Cultural Charm

After a rather luxurious (and absolutely delicious!) afternoon tea at the Armani Hotel, I wandered around the Navigli canals, enchanted by the artistry of street performers. I found a hidden square teeming with musicians and artists. It felt like something out of a movie, filled with captivating energy. There's such a spirit of creativity here, a vibrant artistic buzz.

A Ballerina’s Day at the Ballet

I couldn't resist attending the Ballet Theatre's exquisite performance of Swan Lake at the Teatro alla Scala – pure magic! Watching those ballerinas glide across the stage with such grace and precision just ignited my passion for dance! I had goosebumps all throughout the performance. Seeing their passion, artistry, and dedication truly inspires me. It makes me want to practice even harder, to perfect every turn and jump. I left feeling energised and determined to keep improving my own ballet skills!

Dancing through Milan – My Pink Tutu Adventures

Naturally, no trip to Milan would be complete without embracing the city's iconic charm. After visiting Leonardo da Vinci's masterpiece The Last Supper, I had the most extraordinary day with my ballet group. We found ourselves lost in a maze of winding cobblestone streets in the Brera district. A group of young men, mesmerized by my pink tutu, decided to follow us on their scooters, serenading us with a boisterous rendition of Italian opera! The whole experience was like a scene straight out of an enchanting fairy tale. It made me feel like the princess in a vintage film!

Shopping, Shopping, Shopping

Okay, let's talk fashion, shall we? This city is truly a shopaholic's dream! I managed to squeeze in a visit to a few stunning shops – Prada, Dior, and the magnificent Teatro alla Scala's boutique, which offers exquisite handmade clothing inspired by ballet costumes. The outfits there are divine – they combine luxury, elegance, and a touch of theatricality, perfect for any self-respecting ballerina with a flair for fashion. Needless to say, my purse was lighter after that little shopping spree, but my heart was brimming with joy! And let's not forget the pink tutus! I discovered a hidden gem, a little boutique called La Ballerina Rosa, with the most exquisite selection of tutus in all shades of pink – from the softest blush to a vibrant bubblegum. My shopping bags are overflowing with pink, girly delights. My Instagram followers are going to go crazy when they see my new purchases!

Pink Tutu in Milan

Milan is an exciting and fashionable city with a passion for the arts and an endless stream of stylish fashionistas, making it the perfect destination for any pink tutu-loving ballerina!

A week later: * This has been an amazing week filled with adventures, from visiting the awe-inspiring Leonardo da Vinci's *"The Last Supper" masterpiece at the Santa Maria delle Grazie church, which was a truly mind-blowing experience! I was able to book a last minute ticket with a kind and lovely gentleman, he spoke a little English which made things easier. We chatted about his daughter's ballet classes while waiting to enter the room. Later, I explored the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II and it was simply spectacular. With stunning architecture, glass ceilings, and luxurious shops, it's a true testament to Milan's fashion-forward nature.

The city just keeps inspiring my passion for ballet! I attended an absolutely incredible ballet workshop hosted by the Teatro alla Scala, It was so inspirational to meet with talented professionals, learn new techniques, and improve my own skills! They have just started a new class, just for foreigners that starts next month so if anyone’s coming here for a holiday you need to check it out! I even discovered a beautiful little hidden ballet studio, nestled amidst the hustle and bustle, offering some lovely drop-in ballet classes!

Milan by Tram & Train

While hopping on a tram I overheard a group of teenage girls talking about the latest fashion trends – how excited they are about all the new arrivals in shops in Milan for the upcoming Autumn fashion season! This was an amazing opportunity for a quick street-style photo shoot – it’s important to keep a record of the changing fashions, they really inspire my writing. It’s one of my favourite ways to keep track of my style!

I discovered the magic of taking a trip on the Milan subway for the first time – an incredibly efficient and surprisingly enjoyable mode of transportation. I felt like a true local and saw a different side to Milan. The station designs and artworks made for fascinating photo opportunities!

Delicious Milan

I’ve sampled a number of the city’s delicacies this week – including the most exquisite panna cotta with fresh berries and the authentic Milanese risotto! So yummy! And I had to try an Aperol Spritz while watching the sunset from a rooftop terrace overlooking the Duomo! I could just sit here for hours. I really enjoy discovering new places. The charming atmosphere, the beautiful scenery, the authentic taste – Milan is truly a city to behold!

Pink Tutu, Pink Life

Milan's energy has got me feeling incredibly inspired. This city, with its artistic spirit, fashion-forward vibe and a love for all things elegant is definitely my kind of place. It's almost as though every shop I enter, every building I walk past, is like a page out of a storybook, designed just for me! It feels as though my dreams of spreading the pink tutu revolution are already coming true!

Next Week

See you next Monday, darlings, when I'll be sharing my thoughts on how I’m using my pink tutu to embrace Milan’s culture. Until then, I’m going to try to capture some stunning pictures and soak up the glorious city energy and prepare for my next ballet performance! See you on Monday!

Stay pink and twirly,
