Pink Tutu Milan: Post #1250 - Wednesday, 2019-05-22: Milan Magic and Tutu Dreams
Buongiorno, my darling tutu enthusiasts! It's Emma from Derbyshire, England, your pink tutu-clad, ballet-loving, fashion-obsessed, travel-mad, Milan-based blogger. Welcome back to Pink Tutu Milan - it’s time to dive into another week of breathtaking Italian adventures, glamorous tutus, and the delightful sights, sounds and sensations of life in the fashion capital of the world!
Now, it’s not always about grand cathedrals and luxury shopping in Milan. Sometimes, it’s about the simple pleasures – the chirping of sparrows, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee wafting from a little café, the vibrant blooms of bougainvillea trailing down ancient walls. It’s about the beauty found in the everyday. It's about those little moments of joy that make life sparkle like a million tiny diamonds.
And yes, it's also about twirling, of course. In a perfectly-chosen pink tutu. What else could it be?
Today, my heart is overflowing with joy. It’s Wednesday, and I’ve got my pink tutu mojo flowing - I've had a fantastic week exploring Milan’s vibrant ballet scene! It’s a treat to watch ballerinas with so much skill and passion, twirling, leaping and dancing on stage in beautifully crafted, perfectly fitted costumes that set my imagination on fire.
The Magic of MilanAs a blogger with a very specific love for pink and tutus, Milan really is my dream come true. This gorgeous city truly captures my essence in so many ways – the beauty of classical art, the passion for fashion, the elegance of the city's design, the grace and precision of ballet...it's all right up my street.
So this week, my dearest readers, I want to talk about the wonderful experience I had at a ballet show last night. A performance of La Sylphide, that beautiful, dreamy ballet filled with romance and passion, set in a magical, fairy-tale land - exactly the kind of escapism that fills me with joy and inspires my imagination. It truly was a highlight of my trip so far, and not just for the ballet, but also for the magic of being in the incredible setting of La Scala Opera House. It’s not just an opera house, darling, it's an architectural gem – soaring ceilings, opulent decor, an atmosphere buzzing with creative energy - it's almost like stepping into a fairytale palace!
La Scala truly lived up to all my expectations! The audience was just as elegant, as you can imagine. So many stunning outfits, a beautiful buzz in the air... everyone really embraced the magic of the night. And, of course, I was right at home amongst it all - and with good reason! My beautiful pink tutu (my latest purchase, by the way - it has layers and layers of gorgeous pink tulle) was my little token of elegant rebellion, sparkling in the plush surroundings. I just adore that bit of clash between the classic and the eccentric - it makes me feel like I’m creating my own fairytale world.
Tutu Talk: Pink DreamsOh, the tutus in this city! They are all around me. A flurry of pink, tulle, sequins, and glitter. I truly feel like I’ve landed in the world of my dreams!
Since we last met, I’ve been so inspired to up my tutu game! And believe me, that is quite a challenge. The amazing tutus I saw on the dancers in La Scala truly raised the bar - perfect tailoring, exquisite materials, and meticulous detailing. And with my Pink Tutu Mission (to get every one wearing pink tutus, of course!) well underway, I have a new design challenge brewing. I want to make a tutu that channels the grandeur of La Scala - a show-stopping tutu to really take the world by storm, the epitome of everything my Pink Tutu Mission represents - and in pink, of course. Think pink with a touch of drama, glamour, and a whole lot of whimsy. It’s going to be an explosion of tulle, satin, sequins, and possibly a dash of glitter for good measure - just you wait! I can't wait to share my new designs with you!
I'm on the hunt for the perfect materials and embellishments for this dream tutu. My trusty sketchbook is already bursting with ideas, and my head is full of pink tulle swirls, feathers, beads, and sequins. I might just be addicted to tutus! And it's a beautiful, beautiful addiction, if I may say so myself.
Milan Adventures: Discovering hidden GemsThe last few weeks have been full of exciting finds and explorations! One of the greatest things about Milan is the tram system – such a fabulously easy and efficient way to get around. You can just hop on, settle back, watch the city go by, and get some amazing people watching done. And in my case, some outfit planning and sketches too. As for outfit planning, I always wear pink, and often wear tutus too. But don't think for a second that I don't love to mix up my style - I love fashion that blends Parisian chic with an element of tutus - a little bit of elegant rebellion, if you will!
The best bit is you meet the most wonderful people - all kinds! Just the other day, I met an elderly lady, quite the character, on the tram to Duomo - she was dressed to the nines in a striking outfit – scarlet trousers, a fabulous emerald green cardigan, and a feather boa – I’ve never seen anything quite like it! She stopped me in my tracks – and you know what I said, dear reader? "Love your outfit! Your style is absolutely amazing!" It took my breath away! And guess what? She had a twinkle in her eye as she replied, “You too darling, you too!”. That's the thing about being in a big city like Milan – everyone's got a story and an individual style to tell.
Now, back to my fashion hunt. One of the amazing things I discovered is a charming little shop tucked away in the backstreets – it’s a true hidden gem. It's filled with antique hats, fabulous jewellery, and all kinds of vintage fashion finds that could inspire the best fashionista in the world! Of course, you guessed it, I bought a new, exquisitely delicate pearl headband - just perfect for completing my tutu outfits. I do love those finishing touches!
Speaking of shopping adventures, this week I am so excited to be venturing into one of the most glamorous areas of Milan – the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. The whole experience is just so magnificent – breathtakingly beautiful glass ceilings, an abundance of designer shops, elegant cafes and all kinds of fashionable folk strolling around in beautiful clothes! Oh, how I just love this city!
Looking Ahead - From Milan to Paris and BeyondSo that, my darlings, is a taste of life in pink-tutu land this week! It’s not easy running a ballet-obsessed fashion blog from Milan, especially when my pink tutus, fashion, and my mission to get everyone wearing pink tutus keep dragging me all over this amazing city!
Oh! One more thing - if you’re heading to Paris soon, make sure you put it in your diary. I’m so excited, as I’m off on another adventure. I’m headed to the City of Lights for a ballet extravaganza that promises to be filled with more tutus, glamour, and fashion inspiration! This time, it's "La Bayadère," one of my favourite ballets, performed at the beautiful Palais Garnier, another of the world’s most stunning theatre and opera houses. And, as usual, I'll be adding a little sparkle of pink, thanks to a fabulous new pink tutu specially made for this occasion!
Don’t worry, you can follow my adventures on Pink Tutu Milan - I will post about it here! But if you'd like to have an even closer look at my outfits, new tutu designs, and more ballet stories, you can follow my adventures on Instagram - find me @pinktutuemma! In the meantime, be fabulous, be pink, and never stop dreaming! Until next week, keep your tutus twirling!
Lots of love,
Emma xxx
