Pink Tutu Milan #1261: Dancing in the City of Fashion!

Buongiorno, darling darlings!

It's Emma here, back with another whirl of excitement straight from the fabulous city of Milan! As you know, my heart belongs to pink tutus, and it's definitely been beating a little faster ever since I stepped foot in this stylish, historical metropolis. Today, though, I'm feeling a particular sense of joy – because it’s finally Wednesday!

Why Wednesday, you ask? Well, it's my favourite day of the week – a day dedicated to sharing my Italian adventures with you. Plus, it marks the perfect opportunity for a twirl (or two) in my latest pink tutu. (It’s a real showstopper, all glittery with little silver stars and enough tulle to rival the skirt of a ballet dancer!)

Milan, as I've discovered, is an incredible city for all things elegant and refined. The architecture, the streets, the shops... they all possess a sense of classic Italian sophistication. But beneath all the polished glamour, you can also feel the pulse of creativity. It's a city brimming with inspiration, and I'm absorbing every ounce of it.

Let’s go back to the start of my week, shall we?

Sunday in Milan:

After a very pleasant journey (tram from the city center to the station, followed by a soooo comfortable and scenic train to Milan!), I landed in this fabulous city. First impressions? Wonderful! The station itself is so charming. Imagine marble, arched ceilings, and glimpses of elegant buildings through big windows, all infused with the scent of that wonderfully warm, bustling European atmosphere.

Immediately, my heart started doing its happy little pirouettes, and I couldn’t help but smile at the beauty of it all. After all, this is the land of haute couture, where fashion icons strut their stuff, and I had finally arrived.

Once I was settled at my little boutique hotel (cute as a button and conveniently close to a gorgeous bakery!), I started exploring the city. Milan, even on a Sunday, hummed with activity, a tapestry woven with the sounds of laughter, chatter, and the rumble of vintage scooters zooming by. I fell in love with its laid-back Sunday energy right away, and it gave me an insight into Milan’s unique rhythm.

I followed the call of my stomach to a tiny café. It had the kindest old lady, the best latte, and delicious ricotta cheesecake. (I don't mind saying, that cheesecake was enough to inspire a dance, right there on the spot!). It's moments like this that truly bring joy.

Later that day, I happened upon a charming vintage clothing shop, crammed with treasures and vintage accessories, all at fantastic prices. I walked out clutching a beautiful cream cashmere shawl and a 1950s floral dress with delicate buttons and a timeless charm. Now that’s my kind of shopping trip!

Monday: A Symphony of Silk

As a dedicated dancer, my Mondays usually revolve around the graceful choreography of ballet classes, and this week was no different. After all, staying nimble and lithe is a must for keeping up with Milan’s energetic pace!

This time, I found myself at a beautiful dance studio hidden away in a cobblestone street, with high, arched windows overlooking a leafy courtyard. There, amidst a group of eager dancers, I embraced the beauty of a well-structured ballet class. This wasn’t my regular dance studio in Derbyshire – the elegance of the space added a unique kind of grace to the routine, almost a sense of performing on stage even during class.

But here’s the twist: I decided to try something new! Imagine the utter joy I felt when I discovered this lovely ballet class wasn't a classical affair, but an incredible fusion of ballet, contemporary, and even elements of ballroom dancing. The choreography was magical, and I felt myself truly embracing every step, every gesture, every twirl. It’s fair to say I haven’t felt that much pure joy in my dancing in a while.

And did I mention? It was a Monday. Even more magical.

After a dance-induced exhaustion-but-totally-satisfied state, I rewarded myself with a gelato – because in Milan, there is a gelato shop on every corner! It’s a good life here. I love discovering local flavour and finding delicious gelato shops hidden away in corners, like a secret only a ballerina with a good eye and an even better sweet tooth can find.

And don’t even get me started on the coffee… Ah, Milanese coffee! Rich, strong, aromatic... it truly sets the tone for a busy day of sightseeing!

Tuesday: A Glimpse into Artistic Dreams

Today’s highlight? Stepping into the majestic Teatro alla Scala! It is magnificent – think ornate chandeliers, velvet seating, plush red carpets… and an energy so electric you can practically feel it buzzing around you. As I stood in the cavernous lobby, marveling at its breathtaking architecture and historic grandeur, I realised that a visit to La Scala felt almost like a pilgrimage. It's the ultimate embodiment of Italian artistic flair, a symbol of culture and tradition.

Then, to cap off this glorious day, I stumbled upon a free ballet exhibition in an old gallery tucked away in a cobbled backstreet. It was a stunning display of dancers in captivating poses, and each photograph seemed to tell a silent story, drawing me into its own artistic universe. I especially loved the photos from the 1950s, as you could really see how fashion and movement have come full circle – they reminded me of that gorgeous vintage dress I bought on Sunday!

The exhibit included some contemporary photos too – beautifully executed shots capturing a range of ballets, from the classical to the contemporary. It really felt like a celebration of movement and art, a harmonious blending of discipline and emotion. As I stood before these works of art, I couldn’t help but think about how ballet continues to inspire, fascinate, and move audiences even today.

And speaking of movement… did you know you can visit the La Scala Museum? I didn’t until I stumbled upon a beautifully ornate sign leading the way to this enchanting world behind the theatre. Here, you can walk through its rich history and witness up-close costumes and stage sets that have graced its grand stage over the years.

Wednesday: Back to my Roots, and a Tutu in the Sun

Yes, this is the day! You know what that means. It’s time for you to catch up with your favorite tutu-clad ballerina and take a peek into her fashionable and fantastical life!

But, even a devoted dancer needs a bit of me time, especially after such an adventurous few days in Milan! I’m not ashamed to admit it, I love a good pampering session. Today was all about unwinding – a luxurious bubble bath with fragrant bubbles, followed by a delightful spa treatment, which I might add is very affordable in this charming city!

There's no better way to get ready for a Wednesday than with a touch of beauty, right? And in Milan, a touch of beauty is almost a part of life. From the marble of the architecture to the polished leather shoes in the shops, this city knows how to make an impact!

Once I was refreshed and relaxed, I donned my favorite pink tutu and made my way to my favourite coffee spot for a midday treat (Milanese coffee again!), surrounded by chattering Italian locals, the melodic tunes playing in the cafe, and of course, a croissant so light and flaky I couldn't resist snapping a picture for Instagram!

This city isn't just a haven for couture; it’s a true testament to life’s simple joys. Whether it’s a morning coffee under a sunny sky or a lazy afternoon stroll through an ornate garden, every moment feels like a scene from a magical movie.

Milan’s Soul – And How I Found My Ballet Bliss

The beauty of Milan doesn’t lie in just its dazzling fashion and architectural grandeur, but in the warmth of its people, the aroma of fresh pastries wafting from charming cafes, the energy pulsing in every street, and the laughter echoing in hidden alleyways. There’s a palpable sense of passion for life that radiates from its people, and I can't help but be swept away by the vibrancy of its spirit.

There’s a unique element to Milan's artistic energy, where the classical meets the contemporary, creating a magical blend of old and new, traditional and modern, with just a touch of glamour thrown in for good measure. I truly feel that I have stumbled upon a perfect blend of elegant living and passionate pursuits, the kind that makes me want to twirl until the sky meets my feet, which reminds me…

My Milan journey hasn't ended yet! The next few days are jam-packed with adventure. More breathtaking shows, charming shops, tasty delights (oh yes, I plan on conquering the gelato and pastries of Milan!), and more photos for you to enjoy. Stay tuned, and maybe you'll find a little inspiration to slip into your own pink tutu – a reminder that life is full of joy, elegance, and a chance to twirl into your own adventures!

Until next Wednesday,

Emma xx
