Pink Tutu Milan: Wednesday 2020-04-08 - #1296

Ciao bella! It’s Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-wearing ballerina blogger, back with another delightful escapade from Milan, Italy.

It's been a while since my last post - oh, the joys of a busy ballet dancer's life! - but I'm so excited to finally be back in the enchanting city of Milan. It's always a thrill to be back in this stylish metropolis, surrounded by magnificent architecture and vibrant energy. This week, however, the city's beauty was elevated even further - by the joy of a beautiful, springy morning! Sun is shining through my hotel room window, a clear blue sky peeking over the rooftops, a perfect morning for a little walk around this magnificent city!

The Tram and Train Tango

My journey to Milan always begins with a whisper of anticipation. Stepping onto a Derbyshire train platform, I feel the magic already swirling around me, the promise of a new adventure shimmering on the horizon. My fellow passengers are usually the everyday folks of Derbyshire – teachers heading back from their schools, a few mothers with small children, businessmen with their newspapers – but it always seems like everyone's a little more charming on the train that carries me to the big city.

Arriving at London St Pancras, it’s a brief but exhilarating ballet of sorts as I navigate the bustling station. From one train to another, a whirring, shuffling, and darting choreography, my tutu catching a few admiring glances, a sprinkle of glamour in the midst of the ordinary. But no matter where my journeys take me, the allure of the pink tutu remains constant – it's my passport to a world of enchantment, a reminder that a touch of magic can be found everywhere, even in the middle of a crowded station.

Milan Central is a bustling symphony of languages and sounds. My pink tutu blends effortlessly into this cosmopolitan swirl – the elegance of its colour a welcome splash against the vibrant backdrop of the city. Today, my trusty, charming tram becomes my dance partner, the gentle sway of its journey mirroring the rhythm of my heart. I love Milan's tram network; it's a web of history, gliding along the elegant streets and past centuries-old architecture. And oh, those views – they never fail to make my soul sing.

Milan’s Enchanting Rhythms

Speaking of rhythms, Milan is alive with music – the pulse of the city beating a steady rhythm, the gentle thrumming of a heartbeat. This morning, it's the soft melodies of a street performer that fill the air. A little something uplifting and light, a lovely prelude to my day. The sweet strains of the violin fill the cobbled squares as I stroll through the narrow streets. I even caught a glimpse of a busker playing some wonderfully energetic classical guitar - oh, how I wish I could play like that!

Everywhere I go, I feel the city's energy - a vibrancy, an effervescence that draws me in. The people of Milan move with such purpose, such zest for life. Whether it’s a business meeting or a simple morning stroll, it all seems to flow with an artful, graceful kind of energy. This feeling reminds me of the elegant beauty of ballet – a gentle sway, a delicate pose, a sense of poised grace that emanates from within.

I love taking long walks to really absorb the energy of Milan. With each step, a symphony of sensations awakens my senses: the intoxicating aroma of fresh croissants wafting from nearby patisseries; the vibrant colours splashed across the market stalls – rows of ripe peaches and juicy apricots, vibrant yellow lemons and crimson peppers - it’s a kaleidoscope of visual delight! I take deep breaths of the crisp air, filled with the tantalising perfume of fragrant blossoms in the public gardens and a dash of the delicious aroma of the many Italian cafes - always so delightful!

The Art of Tutu: Fashion in Milan

My mission is always to share my love for ballet and bring a bit of the ballet world’s elegance to the everyday. Here in Milan, the air practically crackles with stylishness. It's impossible not to be inspired by the city's elegant style. Every corner of Milan breathes a love of fashion; every passer-by is a fashion statement – from the effortlessly chic women on their morning commute to the suave gentlemen expertly adjusting their stylish cravats. Milan is a whirlwind of fashion, where trends come to life in designer shops, independent boutiques, and vibrant street style.

But the secret to effortless chic isn’t simply the designer label - it’s about the flair. It’s that subtle extra something, the delicate brushstroke that transforms the mundane into the exquisite. It’s in the little details, a playful print, an exquisite pair of shoes, or a playful combination of colours – these are the things that whisper stories, weave magic, and truly embody the captivating spirit of this fashion haven.

And of course, no visit to Milan is complete without a dose of fabulous window shopping! It’s all about taking a visual journey - absorbing the colours, textures, and captivating creations. I especially love peeking inside independent designer boutiques; their stories unfold with each new piece, whispering secrets of style, design, and artistry. They are true testaments to Milan’s unique and beautiful blend of elegance, creativity, and impeccable taste.

Milan’s elegant fashion scene reflects the captivating allure of a beautiful swan - graceful, elegant, yet always with an edge, an undeniable presence that sets it apart. And my favourite piece of this enchanting ballet, you might guess? My trusty, playful pink tutu. It’s a touch of pure fun, a dash of whimsy, an explosion of pink joy – the perfect foil to Milan's fashion frenzy! You know me – a little pink goes a long way – it's a constant reminder of the beauty that exists when you embrace the unique, the unusual, the wonderful!

The Dance of Art & Culture

Milan is truly a melting pot of art and culture. I was lucky enough to spend my Tuesday evening at Teatro alla Scala, one of Milan’s most prestigious opera houses. Oh my goodness, the experience was simply phenomenal. From the lavishly-designed grand foyer to the breathtaking stage and the rich tapestry of musical masterpieces – everything felt utterly magical.

As I sat back and savoured every minute of this truly opulent and captivating performance, I felt an extraordinary wave of artistic bliss wash over me. The energy within the theatre, a symphony of emotions, and an explosion of music – the beautiful singers with their angelic voices and the skilled musicians seamlessly orchestrating this enthralling performance. It’s no wonder the Italians hold music, theatre, and the arts in such high regard; it’s simply a national treasure.

Today, I have a fun performance at a local theatre – it's a combination of classical ballet mixed with some elements of ballet street and the occasional little theatrical flare – a very fun, uplifting performance. It's my favourite kind of performance because of the diversity, and because it gets to showcase such a vibrant variety of dancing, music, and drama. There’s nothing I love more than engaging with the audience, connecting through passion, rhythm, and laughter - sharing my love for the world of ballet with new and enthusiastic faces! It is a joy to see the smiles on their faces as they are transported by the beauty and emotion of the art.

Milan, the City of Magic

The magic of Milan comes not just from its buildings or its grand squares, its cafes or its boutiques – it’s a subtle and persistent sense of elegance and grandeur, a sophisticated harmony woven into every fibre of this fascinating city. And of course, this beautiful, magical city feels like a stage for me - a city that feels ready to be explored with a playful and energetic twist of a pink tutu.

So, until next time, bella! Keep dreaming big, keep twirling, keep dancing, and, of course, keep on rocking that pink tutu! Always remember: It’s the pink tutus, and the smiles they bring, that truly make the world go round.
