Pink Tutu Milan: Post 1303 - Wednesday, 2020-05-27
Ciao, darlings! It's Emma here, fresh from another fab adventure in Milan! I hope you're all twirling with joy wherever you are! Today's post is dedicated to a whirlwind 24 hours that proved just how captivating this city is, from its cobbled streets to its dazzling art.
Remember when I was telling you all about how I'd planned a mini Italian getaway last week, a quick break to see a show at the Teatro alla Scala? Well, let me tell you, this wasn't just any old show - it was a spectacular performance of Swan Lake. Oh, the costumes, the music, the sheer artistry of it all - pure magic! The grandeur of the Scala is something I’ll never forget, it was simply breathtaking.
But the fun didn’t stop there! As always, Milan is an absolute haven for the shopaholic ballerina, and this time around I found a veritable treasure trove of pink-tastic goodies. I stumbled across a little boutique nestled away on a charming cobbled street, and oh my goodness, the tulle and the feathers were positively dreamy! My heart almost burst with excitement, I had to snag a delicate blush-pink tutu that could rival the grace of the ballerinas on stage. And of course, there were a couple of little black ballerina dresses, just because one can never have too many of those, right?
Speaking of pink, did you know May is National Pink Month? Honestly, the perfect opportunity for me to twirl through Milan in a symphony of shades from baby pink to vibrant magenta. This city has such an amazing colour palette, the pastel pink of the walls, the bright fuchsia of the blooming azaleas, and then there are the buildings! From ancient Renaissance marvels to chic modern glass structures, every shade imaginable blends harmoniously in this vibrant tapestry. Milan, you have my heart!
To embrace this festive month of pink, I thought it would be fun to show you the city's hidden gem of pink-ness. It's a quaint little tea room tucked away in a small square near the Castello Sforzesco - The Milan Castle! The interior is simply adorable, decorated with floral wallpaper, porcelain teacups and pastel pink furniture. They have a stunning display of pink sweets - delicate macarons, fluffy marshmallows, even strawberry and vanilla scones with dollops of pink frosting. It's all very Instagram-worthy and the perfect stop to re-energise after a long day of ballet classes.
Milan is so alive, brimming with culture, history, and artistic expression. And you know what's really inspiring about this place? It's full of fearless fashionistas, people who wear their style as a statement. I’m not talking about just a bold outfit, but an attitude that shouts confidence and self-expression. You know how much I adore this about Milan, it's so freeing and exciting, and I just had to be a part of it!
Speaking of inspiration, have I mentioned the Ballet Festival that’s going on at the Teatro dell’Opera? This annual event is such a beautiful fusion of modern ballet and classic ballets. Imagine this – graceful dancers performing to breathtaking contemporary music in a breathtaking neo-renaissance building! Oh, and you haven’t seen a tutu until you’ve seen them at this festival. We're talking about colour, glitter, and so much intricate detail, it's practically an art installation! I'm definitely heading there for a show this week, I'll be sure to let you know what I think in my next post!
Did you know, on this date in history, 27th May, in 1904, the first official ballet classes were given in Japan? It’s pretty mind-blowing to think about, a ballet history in Japan! Can you imagine trying to dance in a kimono? I think I'd look a little less graceful and a bit more tangled!
So, where was I? Ah yes! I've got some lovely ideas for my next few blog posts, starting with my favourite street food in Milan, so get ready to get hungry!
Also, my newest pink tutu adventure will be here on the blog next week! I’m absolutely loving how well all my readers are reacting to my blog! The sheer joy and the heartwarming messages from everyone who’s inspired to wear a tutu have truly made my trip unforgettable.
To every single one of you who's embracing your inner pink and dancing your way through life, I send my warmest, twirliest hugs. And for everyone out there who hasn't dared to embrace the magic of pink, remember:

Love and twirls,
Emma
