Pink Tutu Milan: Wednesday 2020-08-05 - Post #1313
Ciao, darling! It's Emma here, your favourite pink-tutu-wearing ballet blogger, back from a whirlwind week in the fashion capital of the world - Milan!
Milan! This city! Just typing those words gets my heart racing with excitement. My love for fashion, for grand old buildings, for all things beautiful... Milan fulfils all those desires in one beautiful, stylish package. I landed last week, straight off the plane and into a cafe for a cappuccino (you can't be a ballerina without your caffeine, darlings!). I must say, the Italians know how to make a cappuccino, smooth, frothy, and just the right temperature to soothe the weary soul of a jet-lagged traveller.
Anyway, as you know, dear readers, my journey through the wonderful world of fashion is fuelled by my love for ballet. This trip was a celebration of all things pink and tutued - a combination of incredible performances, spectacular shopping adventures, and just a bit of exploring to top it off!
I always find myself drawn to the trams here, the way they gently glide through the city streets, so much more romantic than our London underground, wouldn't you say? This week I travelled on the Tram 16 all the way to Teatro alla Scala, the famous opera house. A must-visit for any dancer, it just oozes history and grace, and I felt so privileged to stand in that legendary hall, absorbing the stories it holds within its walls.
As if a day spent at La Scala wasn't enough to set my heart soaring, I was even luckier to get tickets to the ballet later that evening! I donned my pinkest tulle tutu (a little vintage number with pink ribbons that matched my lipstick!) and entered a world of artistry. The costumes, the dancers, the music...everything was sheer perfection! The choreography was breathtaking, with moves that seemed effortless yet contained so much power and passion. I felt my own feet itching to get back to the barre, my fingers aching to leap and twirl.
Speaking of which, I finally found the perfect pink leotard yesterday in a tiny, hidden shop on the Via della Spiga. I swear I can feel the energy radiating from that fabric, the pink sequins shimmer with promise of magical pirouettes, it practically demands I put it to good use! It’s the kind of leotard that could transform the mundane into the extraordinary - just what I need for my next ballet performance!
Milan is a place for finding inspiration at every corner. Whether it's a new dance routine, a fabulous outfit, or just the sheer joy of exploring a city brimming with artistry and glamour.
Tuesday: Shopping spree at Armani and Versace.
It wouldn’t be a proper trip to Milan without a little retail therapy, right? So, yesterday, I treated myself to a little spree in the designer district. A touch of Armani, a whisper of Versace, just enough to satisfy my fashion-loving soul! I’ll admit it, I went a little overboard with the shopping bags, but let’s just say they will be used for many rehearsals and class trips to come, a perfect reminder of this beautiful city!
Wednesday: A slice of local life - coffee, croissants and the Duomo.
I know, I know, I already said I love coffee but who can resist a second one, right? This morning, I wandered through the narrow cobbled streets, past artisan bakeries and family-owned cafes. The scent of fresh bread and strong coffee hung heavy in the air.
I decided to try one of the croissants that I had been eyeing up. Crispy, flaky and with the sweetest, fluffiest inside – it’s a croissant dream come true. This was all before I headed to the Duomo. This magnificent cathedral stands as a testament to Italian architectural grandeur and has an intricate facade that could take days to properly appreciate. It's an awe-inspiring experience.
Coming up next: This weekend promises to be one for the books! I’m attending a ballet competition for the young dancers and I’m on the judging panel. It’s so exciting to be involved with the next generation of ballerinas and share my passion for the dance! There are whispers of some pretty special guest appearances from renowned dancers.
This week in Milan, every street corner seemed to echo with the whisper of beauty, every shop window a reflection of creative dreams. This is what I love about this city – it’s a place where you can lose yourself in the whirlwind of art and design and find yourself, dancing on air with a pink tutu, at the same time. I promise you this: I will be back, I will explore even more hidden corners and embrace all the beautiful chaos that is Milan!
But until then, remember to spread a little bit of pink magic and twirl, darlings! I want to see the world painted in tutus! See you next Monday!
